I'd love to have him, but has anyone considered the financial considerations that go with getting him? I'm pretty sure he'd demand big money, which is why I don't think we'll sign him.
Signing is not an issue with Moss. He's under contract for 9.75 million next year. Unless the Raiders release him that's what he's getting. I'm not sure how I'd feel about him coming in on a relatively cheap contract. I don't want anybody taking away Cotchery's airspace right now. I don't think either Coles or Moss would sit all that happily or rotate particularly well, so it's going to be problematic getting him downs.
run 3 wr sets.....problem solved chad actually played best w/ 3 wr sets not much point debating though....b/c this wont happen
PATS IN THE MIX FOR MOSS? Despite an offseason in which the team acquired three receivers via trade and free agency, the Patriots have spoken with the Raiders regarding a trade for receiver Randy Moss, according to David White of the San Francisco Chronicle. Though we heard earlier in the day that a deal for Moss is done, White reports (citing a team source) that "[n]othing's been finalized." White's report corroborates rumors that the Raiders have been shopping Moss for a second-round pick. Moss is owed a base salary of $9.75 million in 2007 and $11.25 million in 2008. None of the money is guaranteed, but the salary for a given year becomes guaranteed if Moss is on the opening-day roster.
MYSTERY TEAM IN THE MIX FOR MOSS Jason Wilde of the Wisconsin State Journal reports that, in addition to the Packers and the Patriots, a third team is in the mix for the veteran wideout. But the third team isn't identified. In the past, the Jaguars have been linked to Moss. We also think that Redskins owner Daniel Snyder, who has yet to make a splash in the offseason, might be interested in adding Moss to his team. Wilde also confirms that the Packers have offered a fourth-round pick for Moss, and that the Raiders want a first-day pick. An industry source tells us that the Pats have offered a conditional fourth-rounder. In 2005, the Raiders gave up a first-round pick (No. 7 overall), linebacker Napoleon Harris, and a seventh-round pick to acquire Moss from the Vikings. And before any Minnesota fans get too excited about a possible return by Randy to the Metrodome, a league source tells us that the Vikings are not the mystery team. They haven't been contacted, we're told, and they don't want him back.
God.... If the damn Patriots get him and have a good draft tomorrow this is going to be unreal. Damn Patriots...
Randy Moss is damaged goods... he might actually rise back to average respectability, but I wouldn't put my money on it. He doesn't have the discipline, and I don't care who you get to hold his hand - he won't change his ways.
eh we outgha at least look into it, we have yet to make a big splash this offseason, and aquiring Moss if only for a year, (like TO did for Philly his first year) could put us over the top, we would have the offensive weapons to get things done, chad would have an old favorite target back, Moss would have all the attention he could want being in NY, Seems to smart to not do it, which is prolly why we won't but it would be a fantastic deal for us if we nabbed Moss. for a third he is a steal, if we have to give up the 63 i could live with it, no problem, he just wouldn't be as big a steal
I agree..who the hell else are we going to get in the 3rd round that will do anything at all for us unless we totally step in s**t? We can trade our 3rd and McCareins for him just to sweeten the deal. Also, if the Pats take him it will prove that everything Mangini thinks he learned from them about character first was total garbage (which we all know it was anyway).
well i really want to believe that the jets are this mystery team, because then it would allow me to relax, because i have wanted the Moss on the jets for years, ever since two years before he left Minnesota because there was talk of trading him then, i wanted him when he went to Oakland, i wanted him last year when he was on the block and now i want him even more because i think we are actually hin the running, in the late second/ thrid round are you going to get another Calvin Johnson? No? i didn't think so you aren't going to get a 6-4 WR with 4.3 speed in the third round, if you could everybody missed something.... Snagging Moss would be an ideal move for the Jets, it would counterattack almost everything the pats did to us this offseason, then you either snag carriker or Spencer in the first round and you have just vastly improved your team on draft day without taking a second round pick.
He has always wanted to play for the Jets and reunite with Pennington anyway. Like somebody else said, you try him for a year (he knows he won't get a big contract from anybody and is fine with that) and if it doesn't work out get rid of him. If we let him go to the Pats (which is why I think we could be the mystery team) then this new FO will be total garbage in my mind from here on out. The other mystery team could be Miami. They have no issues with him either.
Just read where Belichick offered "less then a 2nd rounder for Moss yesterday" and it was almost accepted. "Friday afternoon, Kiffin found a taker in the Patriots, a strange destination for Moss considering New England has loaded up its receiving corps in the offseason, signing free-agents Donte' Stallworth and Kelley Washington and trading for the Dolphins' Wes Welker. Those close to Belichick say he always has been fascinated by Moss, 30, whom he believes is still a Pro Bowl-caliber receiver despite a disastrous two-year stint with a floundering Oakland franchise. Sources said the Patriots offered a conditional pick that was less than the second-rounder that Davis approved. Kiffin -- getting his first taste of big-time NFL pressure and heat -- almost bit. Then he balked. Discussion flowed between Tim DiPiero, the agent for Moss, the Patriots' brain trust -- including owner Bob Kraft -- as well as within the Raiders' power structure. It was a discussion, sources outside the Raiders' organization say, that did not include the team's de facto general manager, senior assistant Michael Lombardi."
Mentioned this in another thread, but I was watching NFL network last night and someone said that Randy Moss recently ran a 4.28 40. Anyone else see that?
I read it somewhere. In the article they said he is in the best shape of his life right now. Not that conditioning has ever been a problem with him.
Schegal or Moss.........Schlegal or Moss.........seriously guys we need to pull the fn trigger for a 3rd round pick........Are we going to get someone in the 3rd that has even close to an impact as Randy Moss???? Hell no. Work out a deal with him.......we got the cap room
