remember, Bellichek is always drafting TE high in the draft-Thomas, Graham, Watson.

Look for the Jets to grab Olsen if he is there. Schotty knows the importance of a tight end after watching Gates for a few years.

and the reason that the Jets do not use the tight end often is because Baker has a difficult time getting open.

I've heard this a couple of times before, but I don't tape the games, so I can't go back to verify this. Can anyone else give their opinion on how true this is? If he's a TE though, who's covering him? Does he just run crappy routes?

Baker stays in in pass protection a lot, more than most TE's. When he does catch a ball it usually looks like he is the 3rd option at best with Chad checking down his primary receiver and that side of the field then switching back to the other side of the field and finally looking for an outlet who is usually a back or Coles coming back for the ball.

If you want a TE to be a primary part of the offense you need to call his number a lot. If not he's just going to catch the garbage in the system.

Joe Namath brings up a point that many people ignore.

A pass catching TE can open up an offense alot. They are the perfect weapon to handle the popular Cover-2 defenses showing up around the league.

Honestly, I think alot of fans are caught up in the old ways peple used TE's and FB's. I rarely see a fan explain just how much a TE like Olsen or a FB like Leonard can open up an offense, theres more "OMG A TE OR A FB? ARE YOU SERIOUS?" kind of reaction. But think about how much a QB like Pennington could use a great passing option at those positions. Think about how much it just opens up the passing game by giving the QB more options.

All that said, I don't think Olsen is anywhere near he players Winslow and Shockey are. He's big, he's fast, but he reminds me more of Jolley. I'm not even sure if there is a TE in college football right now with the aggressiveness and talent of Winslow/Shockey. I would have loved Davis last year, but I think we did alright.

If we get a TE in this draft, Kevin Boss is the perfect compliment to Baker, and he could be had in the 4th or 5th.

The reason we didnt want miller was because he had a hernia.

I agree. I also was one of Davis' supporters at I think special talents like him and even Shockey and Winslow warrant a complete rethinking of how a team should utilize the position and how the OC should gameplan.

On the same end, I just don't think that Olsen's that good. He wasn't able to make many plays for himself and isn't as tough as he should be considering his physical tools. Sure, he's got great numbers running in a straight line for 40 yars, but he has yet to show me that he can muscle his way through LB coverage, grab the ball, and then use his God-given speed to break through into the secondary the way that all of the above guys can. If he can't do that, then he's just an average TE with average at best blocking who wouldn't be any more of a pass catching threat than Baker is now.

    jarrett ran a 4.6 something

bowe ran a 4.40 and 4.49 at his pro day.
rice is faster than his 40 time entails.

i think olsen will be good, but hes definitely not tough. something of which past miami TE's definitely are. hes very impressive but, he wont see the ball a whole lot, and hes very streaky. hes either dominating a d or a complete non factor.

not to mention i think the panthers are eyeing him anyways. willis will be gone when the panthers are on the clock.

with blalock, ross, and one of bowe/meachem/jarrett still possibly on the board come our pick. i just dont consider him worth it in the 1st.

miller is more of a blocking tight end...he doesnt get many balls and when he does..its a 1 yard TD haha....olsen can stretch the field, run fast...but hes not nearly the blocker miller is....so its hard to compare
