I can't see how they can franchise him if he has an opt out clause. What would be the point of having it?
I believe they cannot franchise him. The two parties negotiated a clause in the contract that terminates the contract at the option of the player. In that scenario the franchise player clause of the CBA does not apply. As you point out there would be no reason to include opt out clauses triggerable by either side if the club had a unilateral method of re-establishing the relationship. I doubt very much that the NFL would allow this issue to go before an arbitrator.
i heard a rumor that kris jenkins had been traded to the rams for a 2nd round pick.....cant find anything on the web though so still just a rumor for now
I got this tidbit from profootballtalk.com regarding whom the Pats will pick in the first round PATS TARGETING HARRIS? A league source who is preparing for the draft as aggressively as anyone tells us that the Patriots will select inside linebacker David Harris with the No. 28 pick in the draft. "Write it down," said the source. Okay. We have. http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm About 1/3 way down the page. Very interesting stuff.

Drew Brees says he's near fully healthy after suffering a dislocated elbow in his non-throwing arm during the Pro Bowl.
he was healthy enough to play in the final 2 weeks. The broken hand should have nothing to do with him being out of shape. It happened on Thanksgiving Day.
because he's opting out of the deal under the current terms. I'm pretty sure the Chiefs could franchise him, and he'd then get the average of the top paid 5 RBs (assuming it's the non-exclusive franchise tag). Anyway, I expect LJ to have a pretty poor year
