We needed to get of Aaron Glenn that year. What other choice did we have? And there was no right way to deal with the Pennington thing.
The right way to deal with the Pennington thing was to see him play a full season before we signed him to that contract. Signing him as if he was a great QB made no sense in the absence of evidence that he was a great QB. If he had to be franchised for a season to make the determination then so be it. Based on what we saw in 2005 and 2006 there's no way he was worth a Tom Brady contract.
struggling??? struggling is when you go through a rough patch.....his whole nfl existance has been a rough patch. and our 4th corner??? the only solid CB we have is dyson....barrett is good when hes healthy, but you cant feel good going into the season having a poor pass rush and a rough group of cover guys. both areas need to get better....but it will be easier having a better CB come in than finding an immediate pass rush impact type player come in. i understand pulling for the guy, but at some point you have to face truths....if he doesnt improve his play SIGNIFICANTLY this season, they need to figure out if they are going to be putting him out there on defense....because his coverage skills are a liability.
Hester isn't that great in coverage either but the Bears are finding ways to get him out on the field. Now he's playing offense. Don't underestimate the value of a great returner.
Seriously, this whole thing is crazy! Perhaps Miller hasn't been what some of you may have expected as a corner, but there is no reason to think he won't be good this year. 1 - He is only 23 years old 2 - Our coach has shown that he can get the most out of corners 3 - He made improvement in every aspect of his game this year 4 - Improved Pass Rush will help a lot His tackles went from 42 to 52, his pass breakups went from 2 to 6 (Dyson only had 4) and his return numbers were obviously great-- higher average, and 1 more TD from last year. Lets keep in mind, he was a mid 2nd round pick- not a top 10. As a 23 year old kid, he's doing just fine. I can't believe that the same guys who defend a 26 year old Anthony Schlegal who didn't see the field, will rip 23 year old Justin Miller, who made improvements all around, and was our lone probowler.
Why is it that Jet fans have all the patience in the world for some players - Bryan Thomas (all we heard for years was how he's coming into his own - never mind that it took him 5 years) or Adrian Jones (no need to waste a draft pick on a LT with a young player who will only get better - never mind that he was a rusty gate and a QB killer) or Cedric Houston - - -- but no patience at all for others - like Justin Miller or Brick Ferguson. It takes time to learn the NFL, especially at difficult positions such as tackle, CB, or WR. It doesn't take time at others where instinct is more important - RB or LB. To give up on a talent like Miller is just plain stupid, especially when he also brings so much to the kicking game. Maybe all he needs is a little coaching. I would expect him to be much better next year. Why do some players who really underacheive, such as Ellis, always get a pass. Ellis is earning millions for doing nothing for two years, but instead people criticize Pennington's contract and Chrebet's contract. At least those two players give 100% and have contributed to wins. Ellis got his big contract and has been garbage ever since - he's had 5 sacks in two years but is paid like a 15 sacks a year DE. If you want to criticize someone, he should be target No. 1 on this team.
With posts like that shows you aren't loyal at all. He can't tackle? What games are you watching? He got owned? Is was a Jumpball vs someone who has 6 inches on him!!! and oh btw, Miller was right there it's not like he got Juked or burned. It's despicable what some so called "Jets Fans" post around here. All this is is another Jets player hatin' thread. Nothing Loyal about it.
What are you talking about? So to qualify as a "fan" I have to like every single player on the team? Last time I checked that was never in the rules. If YOU can't find a negative aspect on this team, I guess you can call yourself a fan...an uneducated fan.
Miller is the youngest player on the team and almost as young as some of the draftees in the upcoming draft... and he's younger than Aaron Ross! at 23, the kid has plenty of room to grow...as CB
did he? must have been watching some other jets games.....maybe it was winnepeg i was watching. miller has 1 good side to his game....returning. his coverage s pathetic. as for hester....hester is a rookie....miller has been in the league for a few years. hester improved (in coverage) over the year....miller hasnt improved his cover skills since becoming an nfl player. the optimism is gone....this year he needs to put up or shut up when it comes to playing defense in the nfl. if he was a backup rb it would be one thing....then him being a great returner would be acceptable for him to take up roster space. but his spot needs to be used for a guy that can cover nfl calibur wide recievers....he cant....and unless he makes giant strides this year....it might be time for the justin miller project to go on the road.
well we did waste a good pick on a third string qb last year. miller has only one way to go in the nfl this season and thats back to the pro bowl. mangini will utilize him because he has what coach's cannot coach, speeeed.
saying it is a waste is a bit premature, i guess the jury is still out on clemens but how it relates to the topic about miller, he may have been drafted as a cb but his skills and talent lets him play at various other positions on the field. good players find ways to compete in the nfl.
Could the posters on this thread please refrain from using the word "good" with the player CB David Barrett (who the hell's andre?). Why? He is not good. Why do you people think he is good. He is worse than Dyson and no better than any other CB. I'm sick of seeing him play 10 yards off the receiver play after play and get burned repeatedly. Barrent is NOT GOOD. Stop saying he is. I hope he is gone this year. !Viva Justin Miller!
Our CB's are marginal at best. Dyson is probably the most consistent, and I agree Barret is not good either. Thats why I started this thread...WE NEED A CB!
I must be watching completely different Jet games than some of you. B/c I just don't see Miller as this on-field liability that some of you are trying to portray. I see a young corner w/ a good set of physical skills that still has some learning to do. But by no means is he this awful, Arena calibur player you have all made him out to be. Again I will ask the question: WHat is this hatred based on?
With all this discussion of a need for CB, what are our chances of obtaining Randall Gay now that the Pats have signed Tory James? He has experience in the league and has played for Mangini. Drafting a CB in the 1st round is a risky venture.
