Our friends over at JN did a great job. Here's the chat for those interested. http://www.jetnation.com/?p=461#more-461
I liked hearing him say that the Jets are really interested in FA LB Brad Kassel. He was the starting MLB in Tennessee last year, and has a history in the Belichick type defense. He'd be a nice LB to have on the roster.
Brad Kassel would be awesome and I have no problem with Jay Cutler if the Jets decide to stay at 4 or trade down...
It sounds like the Jets are going to stay put at 4. At the very least, I see Tennessee picking Leinart at #3. If N.O. trades their pick, you could have two of the Big 3 QBs gone by the time NY picks, just like we thought before the Brees trade. Sounds to me like the Jets are going to play this draft conservatively. Its a shame, because I think either Young or Leinart would be a good pickup, especially VY. Wasn't there some bust of a QB that the Jets picked in the '83 draft ahead of Dan Marino?
Kassel would be another solid pickup  Anybody know anything about the guy? Speed, size, etc? Probably would compete with Hobson for the job at 3-4 ILB, with a good chance to win it, if not share it, in what would be a very solid platoon
Dolphins | Team making a bid to sign Ashworth Wed, 15 Mar 2006 21:46:15 -0800 Greg A. Bedard, of the Palm Beach Post, repots the Miami Dolphins are in contention to sign free agent OL Tom Ashworth. Their main competition is coming from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets. Not really related, but it didnt deserve its own thread. Kassell and Ashworth  EDIT: BTW I cant get the link in the original post to work, can someone cut and paste?
Ahhhh yes i can see it now.. And with the 4th pick in the NFL draft the new york jets select mario williams from NC state. Or maybe D'brick.
He's about 6'3, 245. From what I was reading from some posters at JetNation who did a little homework on him, he was in high demand last off-season. When Tennessee was clearing out all those players, not only were they doing it just to get under the cap, but they were doing it so they could match the offer sheet he signed with Detroit. He can be a good 3-4 ILB, and he's familiar with the defense (Schwartz, the DC, was part of Belichick's Cleveland staff.) He's not very fast, but he uses his size well, and is very smart. Gets a little blame for Tennessee's poor year, but he doesn't deserve it, not his fault. Cimini also said it looks like we will probably sign him. He's a young guy, I think he would be a great fit. He would probably battle with Hobson for the other ILB job, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if he won it. Back when the Titans were a pretty good team, he was in high demand. He didn't just forget how to play.
Thanks Smizzy !!!! Couple of quotes that I found interesting in the transcript. "They would take a pretty big cap hit by trading DRob. I think they?ll hold on to him for a year, see if he develops any further." This may surprise you, but I hear they?re very high on Norm Katnick (to replace Mawae), kid they took from the Niners practice squad last year. They were trying to get him on the field last season, but couldn?t. Pouha? Forget about him. He?s terrible. Hawk, from what I?m told, is more of an inside guy in a 3-4. It would be a waste to pick an ILB that high Ive talked to coaches around the league who ask me, why are they trading Abe? And I can?t give them a good answer. I don?t understand why you?d give up on a terrific pass rusher. Basically, they?re going to have to find an Abraham-like player to replace Abraham. they?ll try to sign a stop-gap OT. Don?t think they?re in love with Adrian Jones.
