to Houston or New Orleans to move up. It would cost us no more picks, we could still move Abe for a #1, and we'd be unloading an underachiever's huge contract.
You want to trade the DRob who was the #4 pick over all only a few seasons ago to move up ONLY 2 spots? I have faith in DRob and more importantly Mangini in using DRob to his potential. DRob is far from a bust and only 24-25 years old. Yes he had an average year last season but he also had a broken wrist from the start. No way I am trading this young, atheltically gifted player only to move up 2 spots.
If we don't ask them, we'll never know. Robertson isn't that far removed from being traded to the jets for TWO number 1 picks and a 4th round pick.
only Jets can hope for is that Houston would like to fill 2 needs: 1. Abraham will help their D. 2. #4 pick they should be able to get D'brick to protect D. Carr.
1) DRob is too talented to give away. 2) He makes to much money (see Abe) 3) We have a defensive coach that learned under Belichek, I'm giving him a chance to get DRob to play to his potential and find a place where he'll "fit" on the field.
I have faith in DRob as a 3T, not as a lineman in a 3-4. I don't want a Frankenstein experiment the likes of Shaun Ellis-to-3T. However, I'm not interested in trading up, either. Not into the Top 3, anyway.
Mangini stated that his style of defense would be whatever is the best suited at the time. I doubt we will play a 3-4 100% of he time. DRob has played both incredible and then average at times. He's only 24-25 years old. IMHO Mangini will put this guy in a position to succeed. It will not be a "Sean Ellis" experiment of the past.
3-Technique there are different techniques (or shades) defensive lineman line up in, and they have different names depending on where they are. the lower the number, the more inside they are. the 3 technique is lined up on the outside shoulder of the offensive gaurd, which is different from a nose tackle who lines up in a 1T (heads up on the center) or a 2T between the center and gaurd, or a defensive end lining up in say, a 7 technique being outside ( i may be off on my numbers by a bit since its been a few years since ive played, but im pretty sure they're right, and you should ge tthe idea anyway)
thanks a lot man, there are knowledgeable people on this board. I too play football, but i'm a QB so i dont know much about the DL
I'm not a huge DRob fan, but there is no way I would trade him to move up this year. We're high enough at 4 right now. If we were to trade DRob, I would do it for at least a second rounder and another later round pick.
No way either team would take this. He still has a big ass contract and his knee could be a chronic problem so I think anyone would shy away from putting D-Rob on their roster. Keep him and give him a chance under the new regime, hopefully with a big NT helping him out.
This will never happen... What I think we should do is trade John Abraham to Seattle and get as many picks as we can...or whatever team Then with those picks, package them with the #4 overall pick to get in position for Matt Leinart. It would be just like losing Abe for Leinart which I would love...we would still keep our picks this year and next...
Some of you guys are giving up the house to move up only two spots. Package the picks we get for Abraham to move up only two spots and draft ONE player?
You're correct, and I think it is likely that Robertson stays with the team given the lack of noise concerning him, although I think it's curious that he hasn't been restructured. I am just stating what I think the best course of action would be. I believe in rebuilding from the ground up, from a sound fundamental base. And that includes personnel that fit the scheme. At least initially.
Two words Cap Hit. If we traded Robertson, the cap hit would be ginarmous. So he is a lock to at least be on the team next year. I still think Robertson can be a great player. He played so good in 2004 but underachieved. I think this year is truly a make or break year.
You guys would have a tough sell to try and get us (Saints) to pick up Robertson. He is very talented and a guy that could break out at any time but we already have one of those in Jonathon Sullivan. He began to play some good football at times last year and he is not a big problem on our D. We really need a big nose to take up blockers so Sullivan, Charles Grant, Will Smith and our LB's can get some room to work with. As far as Abraham goes, we already have two DE's as good as he is. Charles Grant and Will Smith are both 1st round picks that have really played well. We also have a couple other guys that are not bad for depth. I think all the national media keeps saying we will get Mario Williams because we lost Darren Howard to free agency but they are unaware of the two DE's that we have that are younger, less injury prone, much cheaper and as good or better than Darren Howard. The best trade out there is trading your 2nd and 3rd round picks to move up. It is almost dead on with the trade value chart. Or Give us Vilma (joking).
