There was a thread last year something like this that helped break up the lackluster activity in the dead of the offseason. Nothing complicated here - just share your opinions. Who is your favorite current Jet and why? What are your impressions of Eric Mangini after one season? What are your expectations of the Jets season this year? What player(s) are you hoping we draft this year? What player(s)/position(s) are you dead set against in the first round?
I will take a stab at your first two questions. My favorite Jet now is Nick Mangold. Although a Jet only one year, he is going to be the leader of the "mean, green" Jet offensive line for years and I believe his intensity and football acumen will set a high standard for the offensive line to follow for years to come. Eric Mangini...lives, sleeps, and will die a football junkie. I predict he will elevate from coach to gm of the Jets (way out in the future), and eventually put an investment group together and buy the team from Woody Johnson. I believe he is that smart and has that much ambition.
Who is your favorite current Jet and why? Well I have a few Vilma Jones and Coles and Rhodes . Coles blazin speed with Vilmas knack to find the ball and Rhodes damn hes the next in the line of great safties in the NFL... What are your impressions of Eric Mangini after one season? He's the style of a coaach the Jet's needed for years. What are your expectations of the Jets season this year? 7-9 that schedule is just tuff but I'm low balling them I hope for A REPEAT OF 10-6 . What player(s) are you hoping we draft this year? Whoever the best fit for the team is I'm happy with . What player(s)/position(s) are you dead set against in the first round?Rb or Qb
Who is your favorite current Jet and why? Bryan Thomas. Never doubted his ability and more important neither did he. What are your impressions of Eric Mangini after one season? Fantastic. I just hope that he can continue what hes started.IMO theres more pressure on him this year largly because of last years success , albeit with a weak schedule. If he does have a bad season I just hope that we stick with him and don't get on his back as fans. What are your expectations of the Jets season this year? With the much tougher schedule , I hope we go 8-8 or better. I'm interested to see how much stronger Chad will come back. A stronger and more confident Chad should make the AFC east a hotter place. What player(s) are you hoping we draft this year? Justin Blalock , CB Darrelle Revis, Ikaika Alma-Francis , Josh Beekman and Ben Patrick. Any of those would put a smile on my face. What player(s)/position(s) are you dead set against in the first round? I'm not against any player getting drafted , but I would find it hard to accept drafting a TE in the 1st. Unless of course that TE is so exceptional that it would be hard to pass on him. I don't know if any of the projected 1st round TEs are that.
Who is your favorite current Jet and why? I'm going to have to go with Leon Washington. He's only a backup rb going into his second season but he is lightning. He's the only guy on the team who really makes me sit on the edge of my seat every time he gets the ball. Don't get me wrong, I think we have some good playmakers, but Leon just seems to have the potential to take it to the house any time he gets it. The screen pass he nearly took to the house against Miami with the game tied late is something I'll never forget - I was screaming like a mad man in my living room. What are your impressions of Eric Mangini after one season? I was very impressed with his quick success, though I'm hesitant to crown him so soon. I do like the way he handles himself, he seems to be very intelligent and driven. I would like to see how he handles some adversity though - last season we really didn't have a lot of bad breaks to deal with. What are your expectations of the Jets season this year? I expect the Jets to be a better team than last year. Mangini has a year under his belt and knows how to command the ship a little better now. Our young o-line has another year of experience, we didn't lose any key players, we picked up a real running back, pennington and the offense will be in year two of the system. We seem to have improved our d-line at a minimum with depth, and we have some ammo to fix other holes in the draft which I feel the FO handled very well last season. I think strength of schedule is over rated as there are really only a few teams that are solid year in and year out. Last years champs can become this years chumps very easily now a days, and vice versa. To predict our record, I'm going to say 10-6 at worst, 13-3 at best. What player(s) are you hoping we draft this year? I see the most glaring hole on this team as the right side of our o-line. I would love it if we could draft Blalock. What player(s)/position(s) are you dead set against in the first round? Please, please, please, do not draft a TE in the first round!
Who is your favorite current Jet and why? Laverneus. Same reason Sheff was my favorite Yankee. He speaks his mind even when it won't be well received but between the lines he plays hard and delivers. What are your impressions of Eric Mangini after one season? I'm impressed. He seems to be in control and got buy-in from the players. He's going to get the NYJ a SB before he's done. What are your expectations of the Jets season this year? 9-7. The schedule is tougher. What I'd like to see is the front 7 come into their own, a power running game (D'Brick to improve his run blocking as well), and surprising contribution from some rookies and second year guys. If that comes into place then you're going to see the beginnings of an AFC powerhouse. What player(s) are you hoping we draft this year? Blalock. If I were a football coach I'd be happiest running the ball down the defenses throat. The type of running game where they know you're running but can't stop you. That would be special. What player(s)/position(s) are you dead set against in the first round? QB No, WR and TE. I really think the D needs the most work so start with that. If we go O, I'd rather go line (anticipating a Kendall-less 2008) than WR or TE.
Who is your favorite current Jet and why? It's Chad Pennington, no doubts. I just like the guy. Leon Washington, Thomas Jones, Kerry Rhodes, DeWayne Robertson, Chris Baker and Jerricho Cotchery are other favourites. What are your impressions of Eric Mangini after one season? Favourable. I think he knows what he's about and I think he's got a good sense of humour, so thumbs up from me. Maybe ease off on the boxing stuff though. What are your expectations of the Jets season this year? Playoffs. What player(s) are you hoping we draft this year? I like the look of J.Blalock and A.Spencer. Not too well read on the draft this year though. Oh, and I like Victor Abiamiri. What player(s)/position(s) are you dead set against in the first round? WR (Still high on B.Smith), TE (Big fan of C.Baker), RB (waste), CB (gut feeling), SS/FS (waste).
Who is your favorite current Jet and why? Leon Washington. Earned the starting job the hard way last season. Now he has to share time with Thomas Jones. I think he'll be an amazing change of pace back for the next few years and then, when Jones gets too old, he'll be able to take over the starting job and be the next Tiki Barber, Brian Westbrook, (insert other undersized RB here), etc. What are your impressions of Eric Mangini after one season? Obviously, he's the man. I knew Herm was shit but Mangini makes him look like the worst coach in the NFL in hindsight. What are your expectations of the Jets season this year? Beat the Pats at least once. Win at least 9 games. Embarass the Chiefs in the home game and send Herm out of the Meadowlands in disgrace. Send at least two players to the pro bowl (Rhodes and J-Mills?) What player(s) are you hoping we draft this year? Blalock. Or a solid DE/DT. And I could live with a CB. What player(s)/position(s) are you dead set against in the first round? The obvious unecessaries are QB, RB, FS, and SS. Virtual guarentee the Jets won't take any of those positions. After that, I'm really hoping the Jets don't draft Greg Olsen. And a WR in the first round wouldn't help much.
Favorite Jet: Chad. Being a Jets fan it is in your blood to be a fan of the underdog. He is always criticized and hardly ever does anyone talk up his strengths. Mangini: Nothing but positive. I'm very interested on how he handles the success / praise that was thrown on him after last year. Can he build upon last years successes? I believe he will Expectations: Improvement. While ideally that would result in more wins and a playoff win. I want to see this team progress as a team Draft: Rhemma McKnight.....All he did was catch TD's at Notre Dame. This is NOT my 1st round selection. I'm thinking Round 3. 1st Round: Let's stay away from the Safeties. I like the depth we have at that position already.
Who is your favorite current Jet and why? I so want to say Curtis here, but given the fact he is in the process of leaving us I will pick someone else. Cotchery - Young guy with a strong work ethic and does not appear to be selfish or a head case. After working hard each year and being patient we are beginning to see what the future may hold for this guy. He'll be a great player and leader for our team for a few years to come, imo. What are your impressions of Eric Mangini after one season? Smart guy with a lot of moxy. There is no quit in Mangini and he finds ways to bring these qualities out in his players. The future can be bright behind this young head coach. What are your expectations of the Jets season this year? Mediocre year. I am not expecting greatness. I expect them to come out and play hard every game and not quit. We are still putting some pieces of the puzzle together so it is too soon to expect a division title - but wouldn't it be sweet. I feel like anything can happen next year. What player(s) are you hoping we draft this year? I'll leave this to the draft-niks. I will be happy if they bring in someone from an area we are lacking and they turn out to be as solid as Mangold and Ferguson. What player(s)/position(s) are you dead set against in the first round? WIDE RECEIVER!!!!
Who is your favorite current Jet and why? Jonathan Vilma. He had an off year last year, but he's going to come back strong! He's a dedicated, tough player. He's bad ass. What are your impressions of Eric Mangini after one season? Eric Mangini is the best coach the Jets could possibly have right now. I wouldn't trade him for any other coach. What are your expectations of the Jets season this year? playoffs. What player(s) are you hoping we draft this year? Justin Blalock, a great CB, Lamarr Woodley, and Mike Walker. What player(s)/position(s) are you dead set against in the first round? Wide reciever, and tight end.
Who is your favorite current Jet and why? Vilma, he is a defensive leader, and MLB is my favourite position in football What are your impressions of Eric Mangini after one season? Couldn't be happier, the exact guy to take us to the next level What are your expectations of the Jets season this year? Challenge New England for the divisision or at least make a wild card What player(s) are you hoping we draft this year? Blalock, Walker and Wilson What player(s)/position(s) are you dead set against in the first round? Aaron Ross, most of the CBs except Revis
Vilma is my favorite current Jet...I have his jersey, he is a great tackler, plays with emotion and is a team guy You gotta love Mangini for what he has done so far for the Jets. Smart coach who wont take crap from anybody...Im a big fan of the 3-4 so I'm glad he brought that to our team...seems like he has confidence in all the players...the exact guy that I want coaching this team Expectations...I dont expect us to compete for the division with New England...in my opinion they are just too deep, Brady always comes up big when they need him...they have 2 first rounders, and they should get 12 wins again this year...I expect us to compete for a wild card spot and probably get one...10-6 and I'd be happy I'm hoping we get Darrelle Revis, the corner from Pittsburgh...runs the 40 in 4.4, great punt returner and would probably start right away for us...and we need a corner so take him...If Olson, Carriker or Jarrett slip to 25, which i highly doubt, we have to take one of them I think we will take the player highest on our draft board and the position doesnt matter...we will take the guy with the highest value, unless its a QB, RB, LT or Center cuz we are already set on them
Rhodes is my new favorite. He'll be a pro bowler very soon. Mangini is going to make the jets a team to beat for a long time coming. Think '98 and '02 caliber, and then some Expectations are the same as last year. They are one more offseason away from being able to take the divison from the Pats. I hope we take a staple CB or OL, in the 1st and then pick up tangible guys like Tim Shaw and Ben Patrick in the later rounds. Do not take WR, TE in the 1st.. There is no need
Who is your favorite current Jet and why? Laveranues Coles. Yeah, sure he may say some stupid stuff now and then, but when it's game time, no one on the team shows more heart. What are your impressions of Eric Mangini after one season? He's a keeper. He seems to have a plan for EVERYTHING, and pays attention to every minute detail. Finally we have a coach that knows enough of the Xs and Os to keep up with the Patsies. I also love his boxing references. What are your expectations of the Jets season this year? I think they really overachieved last year, but I wouldn't be surprised if they make the playoffs again. I think they should be wildcard material. The offensive line has had a year to gel, and hopefully will be further fortified through the draft. Thomas Jones should provide a more consistent run game that they sorely lacked last year. The defense has been bolstered a bit to give them some more pass rush options. Hopefully, Vilma finally gets into his groove in the 3-4. I would expect 9-7 at the worst. What player(s) are you hoping we draft this year? Unlike most past drafts, I haven't really been up to date on players this year. I like Calvin Johnson, but I doubt the Jets could (or would) trade up THAT far. I'd like to see the Jets draft NT, RT, and CB in whichever particular order that has the best player present at the time. What player(s)/position(s) are you dead set against in the first round? Shrugs.
1. Vilma I like defense and he plays like an animal 2. I cant really judge after one yr but I like what I see so far. only 6 starters werent playing for the Jets in the Boobway-Herm era. So he had a decent team to work with. the six starters(whoever our RB was last yr, Dbrick,Clement, Mangold, Kimo, and Dyson) the 6 players that went Martin big loss they never replaced or tried to. Fabini he sucked, A Jones sucked, Mawae was done for this team, well Abe and Kimo arent the same positions Abe would be playing Thomas's position, Law well hard to replace. I think the minuses were higher than the pluses so Mangini did well. since there was a nwew system and for the most part the players bought it 3. 9-7 we had a cake schedule last yr, but I think this yrs team is better. we have a target on our back also 4. I am hoping Branch falls but good luck. I think any CB Revis Houston Ross would be fine or a Carricker or Moss. I think Olsen will be gone by time we pick. But the player I hope we get is Jarrett. tall Wr. that can go up the seams and with Chad's adequate arm he can only help the offense even though he wont start but it takes 3 yrs for Wr to develop. Thats about when Coles will be gone. and plus Jarrett is from Jersey. DBrick was from Long Island so lets stay local. 5. I dont want a FB, P or a K in the 1st rnd. RB, QB, C can also be not drafted in the 1st rnd. But I would kick the TV in if we drafted a Guard 1st rnd. you can find a Guard anywhere.
Who is your favorite current Jet and why? It's a tie between Shaun Ellis and Jonathan Vilma. I've always liked Ellis' fire, but Vilma's instincts impress me a lot. I'm a defensive end switching to middle linebacker so I will have tried to model my game after both of them. Moreso Ellis because I'm a runstopper first and a pass rusher second. What are your impressions of Eric Mangini after one season? No more same old Jets. What are your expectations of the Jets season this year? I expect about the same as I expected going into last season in that we'd be decent, not yet good. It's tough to judge him yet, because he isn't completely doing it with all his players yet. Next year is a big year for Mangini IMO, because he will have to take the next step. What player(s) are you hoping we draft this year? Justin Blalock, and Anthony Spencer. Whether or not anyone thinks we need an outside linebacker or not, Spencer is an animal. He is the next Shaun Phillips. What player(s)/position(s) are you dead set against in the first round? Cornerback. Any cornerback in the first two rounds. It's simply not needed in a system that is dominated by zone coverages.
Who is your favorite current Jet and why? Id have to say Leon washington, I was real big on him during the season and I think he can take the load.I understand we are adding another running back ,but Ill bet the leon distingishes himself during the comming year. What are your impressions of Eric Mangini after one season? I had a good feeling for once going into the play-offs this year and that was due to Mangini. He got the lines to play hard . the offense became tighter during the year and the defense went from like 28 points per game given up in the first half (of the season) to 12 points in their last eight games.Thats coaching. What are your expectations of the Jets season this year? As always : The promise land! What player(s) are you hoping we draft this year? The Offense needs as much attention as the defense has been getting . OT,WR,TE What player(s)/position(s) are you dead set against in the first roun Rb, DE
Who is your favorite current Jet and why? Vilma, his tenacity and drive. What are your impressions of Eric Mangini after one season? very impressed, everything he does makes him seem like hes been doing it for years. What are your expectations of the Jets season this year? its going to be a tough schedule, but with an improved team, i say 10-6 or higher. What player(s) are you hoping we draft this year? CB- Revis, Ross, Jackson. LB- Moses, Woodley OL/DL- Blalock, Paul Solia What player(s)/position(s) are you dead set against in the first round? TE/WR- Greg Olsen.
Who is your favorite current Jet and why? Leon Washington, young and shifty back who has a great upsite and future, will only improve. It's exciting watching him play, big playmaker. What are your impressions of Eric Mangini after one season? Great start, got this team out of the 4-12 hole that Herm left them in and turned them into a playoff team. Gave the team amazing confidence in themselves and they never quit. What are your expectations of the Jets season this year? About 11-12 wins, and to make a super bowl run. Last yr was a great start, now plug in the holes and we should be able to make run. What player(s) are you hoping we draft this year? BPA at DT, CB, OG, LB - in that order What player(s)/position(s) are you dead set against in the first round? I'm against drafting any WR's, TE's, or DE's in round one, or the first day for that matter.
