This is from ESPN: The Magazine:

"Lance Briggs has made the most noise about his franchise tag. Much quieter is the situation brewing in New England. The Patriots have doled out loads of cash in new deals, but franchised CB Asante Samuel has yet to sign his tender offer or show up for off-season workouts."

Good job Asante of the $-biceps...hold out all year and really f up belly's plans...I love it! A big ol' middle finger to the franchise that a whole bunch of guys took a pay cut to play for, and this guy sticks to his guns (no pun intended).

Linebacker Lance Briggs is disgruntled about receiving the franchise tag from Chicago. But cornerback Asante Samuel does not share the same angry feelings about the franchise tag he received from New England.

Though Samuel will not show up at the Patriots' offseason conditioning program that kicks off Monday, the cornerback's agent Alonzo Shavers said Tuesday that it has nothing to do with the unsettled contract situation and everything to do with his client living and training in Florida.

"That's all this is about," Shavers said.

Samuel worked out in Florida last offseason, and nobody mentioned anything about his level of happiness. Shavers said anybody that has speculated that his client is staying away from New England due to unhappiness is incorrect.

So Briggs has set the record straight and now, apparently, Samuel's agent has attempted to do the same.

    -Boston Globe

The Patriots and representatives for cornerback Asante Samuel continue to discuss a contract extension, although an agreement is not imminent. The extension signed by Dre' Bly with the Broncos last week figures to add a new wrinkle to the talks.

Bly's deal is a five-year package worth $33 million, with $16 million in bonuses and guarantees. Expect Samuel's representatives to make the case that their client deserves a Bly-like deal -- reflective of the current market -- while using some of the following statistics to make their case:

Interceptions: Both players have averaged four per season.

Interceptions returned for touchdowns: Samuel has five (including playoffs), Bly eight.

Passes defended: Samuel averaged just under 11 per season, Bly a little more than 10.

Games played: Both have averaged just under 15 per season.

Of course, the Patriots could counter by saying Bly is a two-time Pro Bowler, while Samuel has yet to reach that status. Or that Bly has proven to be a top player over time (eight seasons), while Samuel doesn't have the same body of work (four seasons).

I wouldnt expect a PATS fan to post an article saying he will hold out, the first post was pointless, the repost of the first one is just.....WTF

you should prepare yourself for the much deserved verbal assault youre likely to encounter in the upcoming months....if you last that long
