Yeah I'd go: Tom Brady (draft) Richard Seymour (draft) Vince Wilfork (draft) Matt Light (draft) Ty Warren (draft) Mike Vrabel (free agent) Rodney Harrison (free agent) Adalius Thomas (free agent) Asante Samuel (draft) Laurence Maroney (draft)
LMAO this discussion was more lopsided then the talent gap between the two teams........ I guess it is cool to start shiat but when the ante is upped and you got no material back up we resort to the high horse. Hope the air is nice up there.
Back on topic The 10 best Pats do not necessarily correlate to our 10 best and vice versa. Ten best pats (not in talent order) versus who on the Jets plays that position: 1.) Brady D- Pennintgton D 2.) Seymour D- Kimo FA 3.) A. Thomas FA- B. Thomas D- not by as much as you would think. 4.) Wilfork D - Robertson D 5.) Samuel D - Dyson FA 6.) Warren D - Ellis D 7.) Watson D - Baker D 8.) Vrabel FA- Barton FA (corrected a typo for the 12 y/o crowd. I originally had another player (Vilma) here and missed the D) - Vrabel always makes plays. 9.) Koppen D - Mangold D 10.) Maroney D- Jones FA(trade durng FA period) A push for now. I am leaving out Harrison he is hurt too much and I think Koppen is better then Light, who gets destroyed by better edge rushers. A case may certainly be made for either, this is my opinion only, not fact. The Jets 10 against the Patriot counterparts: 1.) Coles D (then trade)- Stallworth FA 2.) Cotchery D- Welker FA 3.) Rhodes D- Harrison FA 4.) Vilma D- Bruschi D - A couple of years ago this is not close. Age (Bruschi's) made this a push. 5.) Mangold D- Koppen D 6.) B. Thomas D- A. Thomas FA 7.) Jones FA(Trade)- Maroney D 8.) Dyson FA- Samuel D 9.) Robertson D- Wilfork D 10.) Pennington D- Brady D
Okay, somewhere in this post I got lost. I personally feel that, the Jets had a solid draft last year. You can look at teams who constantly have Have draft picks and are totally in the cellar. See detroit. Then you can have teams who constantly spend money on big name players, and do shit. See Redskins. I think successful teams look at their teams, decide who they could possibly pick up in the draft, and FA, then attack that. In this instance, I feel the Jets looked at the talent of running backs in the draft, there pick stance, and got away with murder by trading for Jones. Yeah there mqy be a Gem in the draft, but they were smart by taking someone who is a legitimate RB, and has proven it. Last year was complete desperation, by trying to get suggs and then getting Barlow. I think if they knew the extent of the running game at the time before the draft, I guarentee they would of drafted RB at a higher round then the fourth. So now, the Jets are heading into the draft with some low draft picks, but a number of them, and they are going to make the best of it, by building up the lines with hungry players, then hopefully, some of these guys are the gems we need too. Last year picks mangold and dbrick did real well (Even tho Dbrick plays the blindside, he did well till the end of the season and I think thats just being gassed at that point.). Its also important to look at teams who are successful and how. Look at denver, they are almost always contenders, picking up nonames and then making them monsters. New England, pittsburgh, are very similar. I dont think you should base your draft based on other teams, but you really have to look and see what works. BTW, I know this is the most annoying post I have ever made, I dont know why I even post I should just read.
Isn't there a happy medium? Oh wait, there is, and the Jets are perfect examples of it. The best stars for a franchise are usually the guys they drafted. Theres a loyalty there and the fans bond. That same loyalty and general good image and aura can be built pretty damn quickly by doing smart things like signing the young, sleeper FAs. If Coleman becomes a star with us, we'll love him. Same with Haynes. If we signed Carr, we'd love the underachiever who hit it big with us. Its those kind of a signings that help create an image to a franchise as one that can rejuvanate, or even jumpstart careers. Guys love that...fans love it... Its so meh we didn't go after big names. Big deal. Thomas is gone, good player but I think our Thomas could reach his level. Brian is young, faster, bigger, stronger, and has just found his niche. We didn't get a road grader, lucky this draft happens to have a few of them. No NT? Well...those f*ckers are hard to find...that kind depresses me. But overall, we have a kickass FO that knows what they're doing, we just signed some young guys with monster potential that fit our system perfectly, and draft day is always promising. Tangini is on the right track anyway. I'm hoping this makes sense.
Excuse me. I forgot about Warren. however, you included Jones, who has never played for the Jets. Oh, and how many snaps has Thomas taken with the Pats? Who is on their high horse here?
We have building thru the draft for 38 years now & what has that gotten us? What will your GIANTS do yhis year?
If you want to be a nit, lets have at it. You are the GM of the Jets? Cool I did not know Terry Bradway posts here. The way you post I should have figured.
It's cool when mommy and daddy are away you get access to their computer. Put me on ignore so I can avoid your ignorance. K thanx bye
It makes sense. We'll need another season or two to see if the Jet's FO has what it takes to build a long-term winner but right now they are avoiding the knee-jerk moves (Matt Leinart on the 4 last year, signing Joey Porter to a huge contract, trading for Michael Turner) that would sabotage the short and long-term success of the team.
Exactly...the happy medium. I wrote that post drunk (started early). I think it came out beautifully.
miamipuck said quote;;;;Also where did you read I was happy about being second best? It is a simple fact in one year the Jets went from being a one year laughing stock within the division, to being the second best team. Last years draft was excellent and was part and parcel to the jets over achieving last year. I would rather the team be built that way, then the half assed over spend on mediocre players you seem to prefer. comprende again, here you are making wild assumptions without fact. last years draft has not been proven to be good, bad or great. the first two selections started b/c the jets had no choice. and the rest of the drafted players have proven NOTHING!!!!!!! your assuming they're gonna be good. thats quite a leap!!!!! oh, an mangold has not even come close to proving he is better than the pats center, one year does not make him great. nor did he outplay coppen. another a$$nine assumption!!! it's comments like these that make you look like a HOMER and not so much a knowledgable football fan!!
LOL you can not even spell the players name and we are to take you serious. I think Mangold is a better player. Prove me wrong, seriously go for it. He came in as a rookie called all the protection packages and line stunts etc. He held up well against every NT/DT no matter how big all year. He played through injury and missed what 2 snaps all year. Read this because I know you find that difficult, here I will bold it for you....... Mangold will be a future All-Pro Center! Find any knowledgeable poster here and see if they disagree. Please get some. Also last years draft proves everything. They drafted at least 6 players that started or played a significant role on the team in year 1, that is not counting Clemens (I know it pains you to read this but as of now is the future QB),Schlegel, and Pociask. Go through the last 10 drafts and find where that was duplicated. Please come to the table with a counter point or something to back up your baseless nonsensical arguments. Call me a homer all you want at least I back up arguments with facts and then call names. Not the other way around. BTW as a "homer" you did notice I gave the Jets only 5 out of the possible 20 matchups. Never mind that question I am sure you conveniently skipped that fact.
