Vikings | Childress does not rule out trading up in the NFL Draft Tue, 14 Mar 2006 20:59:12 -0800 Kevin Seifert, of the Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress did not rule out packaging several draft picks, they now own the 17th, 48th and 51st picks, to move up in the first round and select one of the draft's three premier quarterbacks: USC's Matt Leinart, Texas' Vince Young and Vanderbilt's Jay Cutler. "You look at all those eventualities and see if you feel like there is something," Childress said. So what could this mean for us??? Could we trade Abe and the #4 to move up to the #2 then trade that for those three Vikings picks??? Would that even make sense??
Good God the Vikings would have to give up EVERYTHING to get to #2...Maybe they would ave interest in Cutler or Young if they get to pick 9 or so...
The Vikings would have to mortgage the farm to move up to the number 2 spot. They are more likely to make a move if Young or Cutler falls.
Would the two 2nds and the 1st make sense for the #4? I mean, it sounds like a good deal to have 4 picks thru the 2nd round.
Honestly that would behuge for the jets but it seems to me that it would be crazy to trade everything to get young or cutler. (Vikings opinion)
Okay, so the #4 and a 5th round pick for those 3 picks from Min?? If they did something like that then maybe you could take a lesser deal for Abe. Maybe ATL's 2nd and 5th for Abe. I don't know...I'm just throwing out ideas
I think a fair trade would be the #4 for their 1st, two 2nds, and some picks next year. I dont think theyd give up a future first so most likely itd have to be a future 2nd. In which case wed be getting skinned alive...terrible deal for us IMO
If we'd fall all the way to 17 I'd want their first and 2nd this year and their first next year. With the way Young's stock is plummeting I don't think theyd have to trade up to 4 however. Childress is the guy who cultivated McNabb so I would assume he'd be interested in doing the same thing with Young.
No need to speculate - here's what the draft value chart says. Our pick at 4 is worth 1600 points. The three Vikings picks are worth 950 (17th), 420 (48th) and 390 (51st). This totals 1760. The trade is roughly even; the 160 point difference is worth a late 3rd rounder, whch we might have to throw in dependng on negotiation leverage.
Actually the draft chart I have from NFL.com has the #4 pick worth 1800. You're other pick values are accurate, so it's a pretty close deal. The 40 point difference would either be an early 5th or maybe a 4 next year. We could use all of those picks and fill a lot of positions with quality players, but I doubt Minni would give all that up. It would basically be them trading Daunte and their 1st and 2nd for Vince. That's a quite a bit to give up.
Thanks for correcting me - you're right - the 6th pick is worth 1600 and the 4th pick is worth 1800. This results in the 40 point difference you mention, which is negligible. It would make no sense at all to trade up to 2, then down with Minnesota, but trading down the 4 pick for the Vikings' first and two seconds does.
