We need to sign him immediately. Do not let him leave NY without his name on the dotted line.

I hope he's visiting here first. If he visits Dallas, I don't think he leaves without signing a contract.

exactly... and maybe same thing with Miami - they're looking pretty good and have nice weather. Our advantage is Mangini & all the publicity that comes with NY/NJ

I could see a Ted Washington type scenario...Ted took Crennel over Mangini...McGinest could take Parcells over Mangini...

Although with the Jets he'd pretty much be a lock to start since Dallas has Akin Ayodele and DeMarcus Ware at OLB.

I normally dont support signing older players but i feel he could take on a mentor type of role with a lot of our younger players. He also is a class act unlike a lot of other veterans we had here such as Ty Law.

I think he will want to face the pats so it will be between Miami and the Jets...Mangini could sway his decision

I would love for us to sign him to a 3 year deal so that he can finish up his career here and also tutor young players...

I would consider signing McGinest a splash...

Once again....another "hold the fort player". Can cxomew in show the existing Jets defensive players (Ellis / Robertson / Vilma / Hobson), the Mangini, Bellichek philisophy.

I would not have a problem with this signing at all....

Why the rush? Are you under the impression that you are Super Bowl contenders this season?

you need to get better via the draft and adding the key FA once you have the talent.

    Willie's good though.

Not one person in this thread has made that "impression" of being SB contenders. We all, except RobA, accept the fact that the Jets are rebuilding and won't be contenders until probably 2008...

That's my point. Willie won't be nearly as effective as he has been by then. That's why I was so curious at the gushing to get him now.

*edit* Willie is perfect for a team on the verge now, not one who may be on the verge around '08.

His best opportunity to start would be here, he'd pretty much be a lock to start...And the big reason why most of us would want him is to guide whatever rookie will be slowly platooning him, same with Kimo...Adding a veteran(s) who knows the 3-4 will make the transition easier.

No, your best opportunity would be for him to start here. His best opportunity would be a Miami, Denver, Washington or San Diego type of situation.

There are other teams as well, but Willie is not and has never been all about starting. Chatham, yes. Willie, no.

He only has a couple of years left. Remember, not oly is he old (in NFL terms) but think about the amount of extra games he's played per season with all the post-season play. He doesn't have a lot of tread left on the old tires.
