There's no way Houston will pass on Bush with the #1 overall. Who would they take, AJ Hawk? It's not a realistic scenario. The Vince Young talk is just talk, a smokescreen. But hell yeah, if you're Tannenbaum and Reggie Bush is there at #4 and you don't take him, prepare to get crucified by Jet fans and the press...
We have to wait to see if the jets sign a starting offensive tackle. If they do we take mario. if mario is gone we go ferguson. One of them will be there.
NO may still draft a QB #2. I thought this as soon as heard some details of Brees contract. He is due a $12M bonus next march plus a $3M salary. That says 1 year deal to me. from PTF BREES DEAL IS A ONE-YEAR ARRANGEMENT Lost in the hubbub regarding the decision of Drew Brees to sign with the Saints is the fact that his contract is, as a practical matter, a one-year deal. Why? Because the deal contains a whopping $12 million option bonus due in the spring of 2007, in addition to his $8 million signing bonus. We're not saying that the Saints won't pick up the option if Brees has an MVP season and delivers a Lombardi to the Bayou. Barring that highly unlikely outcome, however, the contract will either be terminated or restructured in a year, making the thing a one-year, $10 million deal. So, as a practical matter, Brees doesn't have much more security than he would have had if the Chargers had slapped the franchise tag on him. As a result, we're not prepared to give much credence to the news that the Saints will look to trade out of the No. 2 spot in the draft. At a time when the team is looking to parlay the Brees season ticket sales for folks who are happy to hear that Drew is coming to town, the last thing that the franchise needs to emphasize over the next months or so is the possibility that the Brees is but a Band-Aid. Don't be shocked, then, if the Saints ultimately declare that they couldn't get commensurate value for the pick, and that they had no choice but to use on Matt Leinart.
The Saints are already shopping the #2 pick. Young is too much of a project, Leinart is the ONLY QB that is NFL ready. Now that Kitna is off the market, he would be the guy I want - and we better make damn sure our O-line is in order.
He looked pretty comfortable doing it in high school: http://www.jcdenton40.com/VinceYoung-HS.html The "can't take snap from under center" rub, like so many of the rubs against Vince, is much ado about nothing. I can understand people who were against Texas subscribing to some of the ignorant knocks on Vince, but if your team's future is riding on it I would hope you guys take a closer look at the kid. 30-2. #1 in pass effiency. Davey O'Brien winner over Leinart. 1st team AA over Leinart. Only college player ever to total 3000 passing/1000 rushing yards in a season. My only worry with Vince is that he does not end up with an egotistical coach who tries to mold him to his system.
I don't see the Niners wanting Bush.. First of all. having two number one's will kill their salary cap. Second, they have two good RBs in Barlow and Frank Gore. And lastly, if the Texans trade out of that pick, it will be to one of teams from 2-5. If they don't Bush, they need to take Ferguson. Carr has been getting killed his first three years. If they don't address the offensive line, the media and fans will want Casserly's head. By the way...if it does shake out like that, I am definitely for Mario Williams as our number one. When people are comparing him to Julius Peppers, Mangini and Tannenbaum should be listening.
All i see is Young at 4 baby!!!!!!!!!!!! This will be the perfect scenario i will party until the cows come home.
pft has been awefully wrong this offseason and schaffer has missed on a few.. but i think ima trust schaffer on this one
If Young is a bust that will be one thing. But if he is not - then he is a little smaller than Daunte almost as strong. Faster than McNabb. More accurate than Vick. Nice composition. If this what Mangini sees than he won't have any problem taking him.
Vince Young = Ryan Leaf Hate to play this card, BUT does anyone remember the last African-American QB to win the Superbowl...I do.
I dont think Mangini takes Young. I see him sticking with a more 'structured' QB to fit his system. There are too many holes to fill for us to take a chance on a 'high risk - high reward' guy like Young. I know some of you will think I'm crazy but there is a LOT more risk with Young than Leinart. Cutler should not even be considered with the 4th pick.
Preach on brother. Now if we trade down around the 10 range and he's still available. Then I might not be so upset with the move.
2005 stats: Pass efficiency: Young - 163.9 (3rd) Leinart - 157.7 (8th) Cutler - 126.1 (60th) Total offense: Young - 314.3 yds/gm (6th) Cutler - 298.9 (10th) Leinart - 296.2 (12th) Victories: Young - 13 Leinart - 12 Cutler - 5
