We basically did get him for nothing. The Jets got this pick from Washington last year. So basically with our 2006 2nd pick we got Clemens, Thomas Jones, and the Bears 2nd pick. And we still have our own 2nd pick. Tannenbaum is the man. That is an amazing value. For all you second guessing Tanny as a GM, what do you have to say now?
i wanted michael bush but very good deal. not our rb of the future but im from UVA so ill always accept a fellow wahoo
So we now have a starting running back who get 60-70% of the snaps with Leon and we still have 4 first day picks. Can't really complain about that.
Wow. This is a great trade in my opinion at least. Very excited, for now. Jones has proved to be a starter. The 1-2 punch of Jones and Washington should be great.
Marc Columbo would solidfy our offensive line for 2007 IMHO... The Jets are going to go after defensive players in the draft...
Yeah, the Jets will give Jones a new contract but, Rosenhaus aside, I don't think they're going to have to cough up that much. I'm thinking 3 years and something like 11-14 mill.
Scouting Report Comment: Jones has excellent overall run skills: outstanding initial quickness, a lot of "wiggle" and a second gear in space. He can be extremely dangerous on the second level. He changes directions quickly and can cut against the grain to force defenders to overrun tackles. He can put together moves in the open field and outrun a defense. He has improved in pass protection and knows how to square up and get position. He has decent hands and can be effective on swing and screen passes or even in the slot. He rarely turns the ball over. His overall dependability has improved by leaps and bounds since his early years as an NFL underachiever. But for a back with his skill set and who earns plenty of touches, Jones doesn't deliver many big plays or seem to be particularly creative. He gets nicked up when carrying a full load, despite solid size and the ability to avoid big hits.
Think of this for those considering the age. Thomas only carried the ball about 370 times in the first three years of his career. Larrry Johnson had more carries, last year alone. Great move by the Jets.
Thanks for clearing it up, Exit 117. They must have wanted him out of there pretty bad for some reason though, no? Who the hell gives up a player and a 2nd Round for a 2nd Round?
I'm loving this trade more and more every moment. So we basically just traded 2nd rounders, and got jones to boot. Jones/Washington combo is gonna f-ing rock!!! Cut Houston.
Wow...Tannenbaum has rocked my socks with this trade... The trade down in the second round with Washington last year was amazing...this trade may have topped that one. Unbelievable value...so glad TJ is a Jet!
They have to play Cedric Benson, the #4 overall pick in 2005, at some point, before he looks like a bust. That, and Thomas Jones wanted a new contract... and as we all know, the Bears have a history of being incredibly cheap.
The Value is good but value doesn't win SB great players do. Jones may work out well but this will be he's 4th team, so the idea that you're getting a stud, game changer isn't exactly the case. It's a nice move because there is very little downside, the reality is the upside isn't exactly much over Houston and may be less.
