Yes, this is old news. Yes, he's 34 years old. However.. he's been a steady force on a dismal lion's team for a while. He's a really tough guy.. great blocker, good short yardage runner, and can also catch out of the backfield occasionally. Another great thing is that this guy has almost never been injured in his career (only missed 4 regular season games in total) up until last season's game against us where he stuck his leg out and got a bruised shin (2 games out). ESPN calls him one of the league's best if unknown fullbacks. I think he could be a great stop-gap for us for a year or two and would come pretty cheap. Thoughts?
A little more veteran leadership wouldn't hurt. Also, I bet he brings a real passion to win, playing on the Lions all those years, he probably wants to feel soem sort of contention before he retires...
Absolutely. He's clearly on the downside of his career and wants to make the most of his final years. Playing on a contending team in the AFC and competing for one of the great new young minds of the NFL could rejuvinate his career. The passion has always been there for him, so I can imagine it would only grow.
Are you kidding me? He's so old. No one over the age of 29 could ever contribute anything of value to any NFL team. The only thing we'd be spending money on is road-kill the maintanence crew will have to scrape off of the field with a shovel. I saw we pass and just trade Vilma to the Falcons for Mughelli and maybe the Redskins 1st rounder.
I have always been a fan of Schlesinger. If we didn't pick anyone else up and he was still around I would not be upset if we had to "settle" for Schlesinger. BTW age really has nothing to do with the FB position. The best FB in the NFL is Lorenzo Neal who is 36 years old and just signed a 3 year contract.
I don't think Schlesinger has much left in the tank, but I wouldn't mind taking the shot to see if we can get another year out of him.
did some fool say no on over 29 has ever contributed to an nfl team? im starting to believe some people in this forum have no football knowledge and because they say they're fans they think they know football. most good qbs play till a ripe of 36. should i leave a list of players of 30? i guess tiki didnt do anything for the giants, strahan must be a joke for them too. mawae was whack for us and kendall is a deadbeat. john elways never won a ring and joey galloway is not still blowing by db's. oh yeah and ty law didnt have 10 picks for us and didnt have 3 against trent green in the post season who by the way is one of the best qbs in the league over 30. i'm sorry, i know i dragged that on. now the topic of corey, corey is a great fb but i think if we can sign barnes and bring back hodgins who is a similar type to corey, we would be a very good back field team. barnes a decent blocker with good hands, hodgins is a bull dozer. i wouldnt mind seeing corey but judging by the fact he broke 4 facemasks a season, thats a smack in the face too many to learn mangini's scheme. we're building for the future and he wouldnt be the smartest fit for our system either. i like him a lot as a back but more in a straight i form system.
The lions did not really use a straight i form system for the most part.. not more than the Jets have currently. CKNY6 was just being a sarcastic... obviously. breaking 4 facemasks a year?? wow..how is that a bad thing??? that just means he hits friggin HARD and he comes to play.
Short term stop gap type more proven than Barnes, hits like a ram and has decent speed and moves in open space, upgrade to last season.
So I guess those old geezers on the Colts(Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison) didn't contribute to winning a super bowl last month? lol
OK, we might as well cut Pennington, Kendall, and Ellis then........ Also, I think your the one who's kidding <_<
We won't need him when we take Brian Leonard with our late 2nd round pick. Go Rutgers its your birthday, Go Rutgers its your birthday ... so say we all.
