I am having a hard time understanding this one. Porter was due a 1M siging bonus + 4M base salary. So the Steelers cut him. I have heard that the Jets were interested in trading for him before he was cut. So why in the world would Pittsburg cut him for nothing in return? Even if we were only going to give a 6th or 7th round pick. I have read that he is looking for 4-6M/yr, but with the A. Thomas signing and 7 teams interested in his services I think he will be in for a huge payday that the Jets will not likely match. So again, how is it that we could not pull off a trade for a guy ready to be cut?
Yeah, let's debate things that occured in the past and can't be changed. While we're at it, why didn't the Jets draft Dan Marino?
He was cut who gives a shit. It was common knowledge this was going to happen.................. Why on god's green earth would you make a trade in that case????? LOL, this FO wants no part of him as a free agent anyhow.
Sure, lets just turn a blind eye to everything and be silent bystanders. Actually, new rule...no one on the board is allowd to talk about anything in the past...games, trades, play calls...etc. Hail Namath2Kolber! Btw...why do you think Namath tried to kiss Kolber...ooops sorry that was in the past sorry I brough it up.
What the fuck? He was asking a legitimate question about something that happened very recently (like, uh, in the last two days). No reason to jump all over the post for no reason at all. Anyway, my guess is that teams knew he was going to be cut sooner or later, and weren't offering much in return. The Steelers decided that acquiring a second day pick (which is probably some of the best offers) wasn't worth it... maybe because trading him resulted in an acceleration of cap money. I'm just guessing. If that's not the case, then it doesn't make much sense... it would tell me the trade rumors were probably just bogus.
I'm pretty sure the public reason they said was that they wanted to repay Joey for being such a class act, and cut him so he can go wherever he wants, as apposed to forcefully trading him somewhere. But in reality, I'd guess that something like 10Pennington10 said happened
That just made me think, maybe the compensation draft picks that league would give them would be better than any offer they got. If that is the case, I wonder what kind of pick the Steelers would get compensation for (if any) for losing Porter. Didn't we get a 4th or a 5th for McKenzie?
Ok...this is a tough question. Let me hold your hand through this one. A. Thomas just signed for over 7M/yr and over 15M guaranteed. Considering they have similar resumes and 7 other teams are interested in Porter and there is lots money out there bc of the cap increase yahda yahda yahda....5M is a lot less then what he gets in FA and if it only costs of a late round pick (6th/7th) then of course, it is worth it. PS:One other thing to note, Porter was cut for salary cap reason and not talent reasons Is it starting to make sense to you now? If not I can try to simplify it a bit more for you
You can be a sarcastic dick all you want if that is going to make you look smarter. I am saying that this Front office does not want him in free agency why trade for him. That is all! There are also debates going on that he has lost a step and is not the game breaking talent he once was.
Where did you hear this? If they cut him for salary cap reasons how could they want to sign him back?
I thought it was commonly known? A lot of people brought that up here. I dont remember where exactly....
THANK YOU!!! I CANT STAND THAT SOB!! my drunken post... my post was going to be possibly... not possibly... actually.... was going to be the same exact post. Where in gods green F%CCCK does dan marino come into the equation!?!?!?!?! edit to possibly save my ass
If the reports about the Jets trying to aquire him via trade are true, then Im not sure. Its possible the Steelers werent getting close to what their percieved value was for him and opted to cut him rather than lose face in a deal that would bring a lot of media scutiny. As far as your speculation about Porter getting a big contract.....It would seem that there is enough interest in the market for him to exceed the value of his last contract, but until he signs and the numbers are reported its hard to predict how aggressive the Jets may have been in signing him
My guess is they let him go due too cap/roster bonus issues. I am failry positive Porter is already steaming that he was cut, so allowing him to go out and seek the money he deserves is the least they could've done for him.
