OK- Steinbach just got 49mil- and Clements got 80 mil!! This is what happens when they raise the cap too high, teams just go crazy, and will do anything to sign a quality young guy. It will be very tough to sign any big names withour really breaking the bank. These contracts are so artificially inflated. Hutch is the best guard in the NFL- Steinbach may be top 5 or so, and he just beat Hutch's contract. These guys are just throwing money around, and are paying way over market just to keep the guy from getting other offers. Poor negotiating.
And Derrick Dockery just got $18M guaranteed from Buffalo; Orlando Pace got $15M two years ago, and he's a near lock for HOF while Dockery hasn't even made a Pro Bowl.
What?????? Where did you get that info on Dockery??? This is nuts- I was hoping we signed him- but really, that's what I expected Steinbach to get- he's maybe the 15th best guard in football I'm guessing, and he got 18 mil. UNREAL!
See, this sucks, because these are positions we need, and the prices are going to be inflated across the board because of these BS signings.
How much was the salary cap raised this year? I could be wrong, but I see all these inflated contracts as a good thing. Now the teams that enter these stupid deals are going to be screwed for future signings.
Buffalo could have landed Dockery for less...no wonder Danny didn't resign him in DC. Even he knows that price was too high.
Are Contracts out of control or what?. As much as I want some of the big fa's on the Jets, Some of those contracts are way too high. That big cap space most teams have really jacked things up. Wait until the real good players in the league contracts are up. It's going to be a mess.
these teams dont are.. the salary cap is going up 7 million alone next year. the contracts are only gonna get bigger.
It is ridiculous and it makes me sick... They really have to do something about that... Every offseason, the contract records are broken it seems. The Derrick Dockery deal is RIDICULOUS beyond belief.
There is no penalty anymore...the salary cap will continue to rise...these teams will never be hurt by these signings as teams were in the first few years of the cap. Look at teams like Washington and Denver who every year are huge overspenders, and yet it never comes back to haunt them financially. They're out there again this year.
