I had a dream and it was glorious. We made a trade, signed one main FA, gave new contracts to the worthy and rebuild through the draft. 1st: Trade #59 to Buffalo for McGahee, now we have a feature RB with a chip on his shoulder, who can catch the ball as good as any WR. 2nd: Sign Nate Clements, yes show him the money. He is the best FA CB and no CB in the draft is rated as good as he is. You pay a price for a proven commoditee. 3rd: Give new contracts to: WR Jerricho Cotchery, FS Erik Coleman and LB Victor Hobson 4th: Draft #25 TE Greg Olsen 6-5, 255 4.50 Miami (A great target for our QB & BPA!) #37 Best available DE - Maybe Quentin Moses DE 6-5, 250 Georgia (Stock has dropped and he may still be there) #59 Traded for a starting RB. Great Value! #90 QB Kevin Kolb 6-3, 225 Houston (Yes our #3 QB) He would be our #3 QB this year. (Stats: Year: 2006, Completions: 292, Attempts: 432, Yards: 3809, Completion%: 67.6, TDs: 30, INTs: 4, QB Rating 162.72) And he can play the no-huddle! #155 Best OG or OT available (We have been very successful at drafting starting O-linemen late in the draft.) #163 DT Walter Thomas 6-4, 370 NW Missouri CC (A mountain that is quick and the key for our 3-4 defense. I like this HUGE kid!) ****I know you may hate the idea of drafting a QB in the 3rd round but waite for a second before you say anything. He has one of the strongest arms, very accurate and has stats better than any other QB in the draft. He looked great at the combine and he could be a future starting QB on some NFL team. We do need a 3rd QB and it doesn't need to be a veteran. If Chad is the starter this year and gets hurt we all know Clements would be his backup to go in. Kolb would be a cheaper ulternative than signing a veteran and we would have him under contract for 4-5 years for league minimum. We drafted Clements to be the guy and he has had a year to learn behind Chad. If he beats Chad for the starting QB spot then Chad is the backup. We could draft Kevin Kolb for the future and the worst senario I feel would be to trade him before his rookie contract is up and recoup the pick. This kid can play!**** Thanks for listening, now fire away and ruin my dream.
I have a woman who doesn't charge me for sex and I still dream about women and sex. Fortunately, I've got all the money in the world.
Women that DON'T charge for sex? Next you'll be telling me the tooth fairy and santa claus is real too.
OK. I waited a second. I don't like taking a QB in the 3rd round. Just makes no sense right now. It is not a need for the Jets. I would prefer they get a veteran QB to teach Clemens and, if Clemens doesn't work out, they can draft a QB next year or the year after.
if we're going to get a QB in Rd. 3, it's gotta be Trent Edwards from Stanford. Kolb is undersized, the same issue people have with Clemens. We might as well go for someone a little different and see what works best in our O. I'd still prefer not to go QB in the 3rd though regardless.
Get a QB to teach Clements, we already have one in our starter. And if we need to get another QB why cut Ramsey as every one is predicting. I know we will save 1.4 mil but we still need to replace him.
Pennington is probly more concerned at this point with advancing himself then teaching his predecesor(sp?). Huard would have been nice had he not signed with KC, probly would have wanted a bit too much tho. Garcia will also command money after he saved Philly.
That is a good point about Chad. He has to reemain in self-preservation mode. To your other points Huard not really crazy about him , Garcia I am sure is thinking he could start somewhere, Raiders, Lions, Browns
Chad is one of the most team-first guys I have seen in the league in a while. I am sure he does what he can to help those around him, including his eventual successor. He was the same way at Marshall helping Leftwich along.
At Marshall, millions of dollars wasn't at stake. He knew the #1 job was his. In NY tho, he has never really had much competition from younger players. I just can't see him helping Clemens take his job and thus, his money away. He may seem like a nice guy, but money talks.
Millions can be at stake in college if you help a guy and he passes you as a starter. Granted college works different from the pros though so it probably wasn't likely. You make a good point though, money does indeed talk. Maybe I'm being bit naive and a little homerish about it, but I still want to believe in the good in people. Chad makes it easy the way he approaches his job. I can see him helping the guy. Chad wants to win no matter who is under center, at least he's given me that impression when he's spent time on the sideline as the walking wounded. The more prepared Clemens is the better chance the team has if he does go down again.
theres a difference between helping someone whos going to takeover once you go pro. and helping someone whos ready to take your career from you. im not saying he doesnt help kellen, but that was a good point brought up.
I don't disagree with that... I don't think Chad is helping him from the standpoint of making him a starter, but I am willing to bet that he does give significant input and assistance in things. Or maybe it is a very petty environment where every man is for himself... lol Entirely possible.
The reason why Kolb put up those numbers was because he had been playing in that offense since his days in high school...something like 6 or 7 years in the same offense (I guess either the offensive coordinator of HC was his high school coach as well). What happens when a new offense is thrown his way?
