If this guy is still around in the 2nd round should we take him? He did well in the combine and is still developing. Video http://play.rbn.com/?url=nfl/nfl/op.../promo&rpcontextwidth=417&rpcontextheight=250
I was thought of this dude too. He seems like a poor mans Ty Warren to me. He is a 4-3 DT but he could be a good 3-4 END, becasue he is 300+ and has good quickness and can hold up against the run. I'll take him if he is there at our first pick in the second round. At 25 snag Spencer then Johnson, that would be pretty sick!
Tank Tyler's main problem is his work ethic, coachability, and questionable intangibles. Because of this and Tanny and Mangini's recent history, I think they'll pass regardless of where he is in the draft. Physically, he'd be a great fit, however.
I think labeling a guy as a "Mangini guy" is downplaying both that person as a human being and Mangini is a coach. This guys what...22? He can't learn? Especially under a hard but lovable ass like Mangini? You're right though, judging 22 year old top athletes is more fun.
A poor man's Ty Warren?...I really do not think so. Actually he is a far better NT prospect than a 3-4 DE. To me, he draws a lot of similarity to Vince Wilfork when he came out. He is a big strong 4-3 NT (6'2" 335, 42 reps in the bench press), who at times during his college career has seemed out of shape, not the brightest, and lacking a good work ethic. Like Wilfork, despite playing 4-3 NT, he still likey projects as a NT in a 3-4, not DE. If I were Mangini and Tannenbaum, I would sit down and have a looooooong conversation with him. If he is there in the second, I would have to look.
Sit and talk with him? Thats not going to have any kind of effect on him. Hes simply NOT a Mangini guy. Never will be.
This post hits the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned. I too believe the Wilfork comparison fits alot better than the Warren comparison. He might be the one guy we could get that could solve our NT issues...If they feel he will work hard enough, I am all for using a 2nd on him, if he is available.
By long talk I didnt mean to try to convince him of anything, but rather to see if he is moldable/coachable. As for the weight, it may have been 325, but it is what he weighed at the senior bowl, I'll look for the article.
http://nflexperts.scout.com/2/611924.html Sorry, 323 at the senior bowl. 33" arm length with 9 3/4" hands, for whatever thats worth. I have heard that he had lost 10+ lbs for the combine in hopes of running a better 40.
The ones' that know the management of the Jets....... know that Tank Tyler is a bad seed....do some research. OK...I did it for you....http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=18181 This thread was going on a month or so about Tank Tyler. You guys really think Mangini want's this loser on the Jets????? Listen to Mangini's press conferences about the draft..................he's told the scouts not even to consider bad apples...end of story.
You could probably make that same statement after any single post on this entire board... Anyway, there's a good chance he's off our board, but don't forget about New England taking Vince Wilfork...
I must admit... Although his supposed lack of character scares me, his physical attributes intrigue me. I believe he'd be a great fit in the 3-4 at NT AND DE. Remember, alot of times kids get in trouble in college and have supposed bad work ethics, but such things never really re-surface in the NFL(Ala L. Coles, Warren Sapp, Peter Warrick, Etc). That's why having a scouting dept. and security dept. who truly do their homework in terms of player backgrounds is so important. We'll see w/ this guy..
Yea. That's true. I mean the New England Patriots are a pinnacle or class. Stomping on the field in the chargers. Belichick pissing his pants when Mangini left. Belichick again pissing his pants when his WR coach for the jets. Rodney Harrison..(need i say more) Man, big surprise that they would take a guy like Wilfork.
Not really sure what bringing up that thread proves besides that you had this feeling about Tyler last month. Still doesn't prove that he is off the Jets board.
Thanks for all the input. I was rather thinking of him as an all out 3-4 NT rather than end but he does have reasonable speed/weight. Character issues always intrigue me. Are his issues because of where he grew up or because of those around him now? I would hate to let him slip because we were scared to take a dip in the pool and he does turn out to be the next Wilfork and settles down to a good career.
