Jets will allow these two to walk
    Feb. 26 - 1:15 pm et

The Jets will allow free agents Anthony Clement, their starting right tackle in 2006, and B.J. Askew, a fullback, to hit the free agent market.

New York has been digging for a "thumper" at fullback since last year and could explore Ovie Mughelli in free agency or Alabama's Le'Ron McClain in the draft. It's uncertain who'll replace Clement at right tackle.

Bammf.....sorry to break this to you. I was worried we would let Clement walk, but perhaps he is looking for a bigger payday then he deserves.

Yeah, I think this is all about money. Don't get me wrong, I'm not married to the guy and believe we can definitely upgrade, but he wasn't the weak link in our line last year. Oh well, RTs aren't that hard to get and I wouldn't be shocked if he resigns after checking out the market....

I agree. Some guys are like broken records! They get on CLEMENT for some unknown reason. the guy did Ok under some trying circumstances. If we can upgrade with a guy like MARCO COLOMBO, I;d be all for it. But to just dump on AC for an unknown reason is wrong.

Sir Terp, I appreciate your nod and were it not for the incriminating photos I have of GreenMachine, a horse, some 20 weight ball bearings and MisterMoss holding a "We're #1" foam finger, that might be a reality.

I would have tried to hold onto Jerold Sowell and let Askew walk years ago.

The only memory I'll have of him is when he went walking around shirtless during the pregame show of Green Bay when it was about 0 degrees out....

Sowell was a damned good FB. Good blocker for Martin and good hands for a dumpoff (Penny's forte'). Askew unfortunately never filled his shoes, IMO.

Yeah, I was pissed when we let Richie Anderson go and then quickly became a big Sowell fan. Askew was a wasted pick by Bradway, he wanted to be a half back, we wanted him to be a full back, and he wasn't that good at either spot.

SOWELL_IS_GOD should be checking into this thread any minute now...

I'm not surprised over Askew but I would have thought the Jets would keep Clement around as a B/U even if they drafted or acquired someone else to start. As you say, it's got to be over money. But losing Clement will hurt our depth if nothing else.

i am loving all of this jerald sowell support...and, of course, i agree, askew seems like a wasted pick, especially because our man jerald's production wasn't bad...goddamn you jon gruden

i agree...askew never really showed he was a great receiver out of the backfield, unlike sowell, and he obviously wasn't that great of a blocker, as we same several times during the year shaun ryan lining up in the backfield

we have so many smart member to this message board...i love jets fans...unfortunatly in this offense the fullback doesn't seem to be used all that much, although that might be because of askew and the lack of jerald sowell...would have liked to see schotty use sowell's versatility

I still cannot comprehend the decision to dump Sowell.
