2/23/07 7:23pm Adam Schefter just reported on NFL Network that the New York Jets will be making a serious run at Adalius Thomas. Mangini wants him to be the playmaker on this defense. He mention no other teams and was specically reporting it is the Jets making the move for Thomas. Good News. Although I have not seen him play much, I have heard nothing but good things about him. I bet if we secure him, we cut Barton and Hobson will move inside and start along side Vilma.
The kid can play, no doubt. I know we will have to overpay him i just hope not too much. But i like him a lot.
Why does everyone want Barton cut so badly? He had a good year. I'm not on board getting A. Thomas. B. Thomas was given a 5 yr extension to play that role, and they can't really both be on the field at the same time.
since when is having two pass rushers on the field together a negative?? Adalius can do everything and anything on a football field, let him rush the passer, drop him in coverage, he could do it all. Besides the fact that he will be "overpaid" which I couldn't care less about, I can't see any reason any Jets fan would not support this move. He is one player that could single handedly make our D not only respectable but possibly dominant..
Thomas is a stud, the Jets would be foolish not to pursue him. Our secondary is not that good, and the market for corners is thin. The next best solution is to upgrade our pass rush, and Thomas would certainly take care of that while at the same time improving the overall speed and talent of our defense.
The "kid" can play? The dude is going to be 30 going into next season. And, yes, the Jets will have to pay market value to get him (which will seem like overpaying).
If both your OLBs are pass rushers, who covers backs out of the backfield? and also teams will run at you like crazy. I'm not overpaying to drop him into coverage. I'm just saying if you wanted A. Thomas maybe we should not have signed B Thomas for 5 yrs. I don't know if I'd support the move. We need more offensive weapons in my opinion.
I don't understand Jets fans. We have 30 mil in cap space, and a chance to sign an OLB that is one of the best pass rushers in the NFL from the LB position, he can cover, and is a brutish tackler. Hobson hardly scares opposing offenses when he blitzes, but Thomas and Thomas would by necessity dominate offensive game plans for teams preparing for the Jets, not to mention that a big pass rush can help hide weaknesses at CB which we have. It's like we are only allowed ONE OLB that can pass rush? Thomas would be a huge upgrade over Hobson. 3-4 teams have to have more than 4 good LB's anyway. The Jets are 30 MILLION under the cap! It's not like Thomas would mean we can't get other FA's for the offensive side! Heck, we have the cap space to sign Thomas, Steinbach, Turner and have room left over. Not saying we'll do that, but the cap space is there. Let's not spend any cap money. Let's not get any FA's. Let's suck next year.
You look around the NFL at the teams playing the 3-4 nowadays and they have two OLBs that can get to the QB. Besides that Thomas isn't just a pass rusher, he can do aNYthing that is asked of him on any down. This guy is the real freak in the NFL today. I do agree that we need some more offensive weapons. Signing Thomas gives the Jets the flexibilty to do that during the draft..
Vision.... it's like talking to deaf people. For whatever bizarre reasons, some just don't want a game changing LB on the Jets. A Thomas is the complete package, can cover, can pass rush (better than anyone on the Jets roster) and is a great tackler, a big hitter. But, people don't want him. Even with 30 mil of cap space, they don't want him. They invent reasons to justify their opinion. :breakdance: I really do need a break from this place.... from some idiot that wants to talk about his dick streak in a combine thread to this sort of idiocy. God save the queen! (after he saves the rest of us)
All reports say 20M, and maybe a little less because of Incentives earned, but most say 20M, not 30M. I think this would hurt against the run, and the guy is going to be 30 from what is reported.. and probably want 5+ yrs. All reports say 20, plus this doesn't count Cotchery getting a nice chunk, and others. I'd say OL, guard namely, is #1, then RB then OLB.... therefore, I don't dump big coin on 1 player. It's not the way the Jets, if they are going to follow the pats model, are going to operate.
