I hate to admit it. Players don't want to play for the J-E-T-S. Unless no other team want you, or they pay crazy money, players step back from the J-E-T-S. Look at the teams players are signing with as opposed the J-E-T-S. You hear players at the conference. "This team is headed in the right direction and I want to be apart of it." or " I want to be part of this rebuilding process." Isn't that what the J-E-T-S are doing. I've heard current players bitch about the Long Island / New Jersey slpit and the practice facilities is below average. I'm a huge J-E-T-S fan but look at reality. Players avoid The J-E-T-S for some reason. What is it?
You're delusional. Free agents always say that. The Jets are being smart. Buying a team never won a championship. It's amazing that fans still can't understand that after years of evidence has piled up. The Steelers and Pats just won the last two Super Bowls, and they are nearly always basically inactive in free agency. -X- -X-
Look at the J-E-T-S the past couple of years. What impact FA we got? TY just came for the one year vto get paid this year. Since bill left, at a low price or high price, players refuse this place. Name some on the team.
rod, no offense, but you ARE delusional. Just because we dont sign impact FAs does not mean that players don't want to come here.. you can't just sign impact FAs every year.. thats when you go into something called CAP HELL. FAs command more money than anyone else, especially "IMPACT FAs" as we like to call them. Shit.. why didnt we sign hutchinson? we need some help at guard.. or hell, lets get will shields and lavar arrington and oooo, who else is there? its not that they don't want to come here, we just aren't interested. If you can give me a concrete example of a player that said that he didnt want to play for the jets, or took less money from another team instead of playing for the jets, I'll agree with you. Otherwise, please don't make rediculous accusations without backing them up at all.
this is a really ridiculous statement. Players dont care where they sign, the number 1 thing on their mind is money, and we are just choosing to be smart with our money this time around and im glad also, Look at it this way, if we go and sign all big names we still will not be contending for a playoff spot next year because our QB situation RB situation and Oline. Now you could go bring in the world but with a new system new coach and new players your still gonna take at least a season for everything to mold. Now if we choose to only sign our needs and role players then we will still be in the same position BUT the better thing about that is that we dont tie up all of our money the next few years. So what were doing is actually the smart thing to do for once.
Any team can sign any free agent all they have to do is show them the money. Do you honestly think that David Givens think the Titans are going to be good next year? No, the Titans just threw money at him and he signed.
This will be a 2-season process of turning the roster over to fit Mangini and his staff. He has to somewhat prove himself as a coach in order to get FA's more interested. At least the ones who are not New England castoffs.
Look at the most sucessful teams of recent years and tell me who their big free agent splashes have been. (Remember, TO went to Philly in a trade). NE, Pitt, Phili, Carolina, Indianapolis..... Not a single blockbuster signing that I can remember. Solid teams seem to be built upon depth and quality spread across the entore roster. If your payroll is too top heavy and one of those cap guys goes down for an extended period of time, which is all too common in the NFL, than your replacements and backups are razor thin. You need to also get some starters out of your middle round draft picks. That's where you can really hit the jackpot. Guys drafted in the third round or lower require compensation as restricted free agents after thier first several years. That's why Curtis Martin went to New York for a kings ransom. He was a restrictd free agent that NE chose not to match. Now, NE botched the draft pick that came back but that's a story for another thread.
I suspect he has moved to JN or JI. I do not think he will return even though he can. I do hope I am wrong.
The same statement comes around every year from the restless. Where would Givens have fit in on the team/ To compete with J-Mac for the #2 spot? I can understand being upset that Kitna didnt sign but with Harrington there maybe he thought that his best chance to start for the next few years would be in Detroit. He might of won the job this year but with the Jets rebuilding it would be soon that they drafted the QB of the future and he is a backup/teacher again. Signing a Center (Bentley) would have been nice but we have a cap specialist in charge now and maybe he sees the ramifications of signing some of the availabe FA's to big deals. I choose to remain naive and believe the new regime has a plan which does not include any of the fa's mentioned so far.
Hate to admit it guys, but there is some truth to this post. Remember Winfield? He was close to signing but his wife didn't want to live on Long Island which factored into his decision to listen to the Vikings. It was reported the Edwards family didn't like living here. Hey, I'm from Long Island, I love the place, but New York is polarizing. People either love it or hate it, I think that, combined with the fact that every game for the Jets is an away game, the media is brutal, etc. and, assuming all other things equal, many players say no thanks to New York
Well the Jets were one of the most disasterous teams last year. Look at the other teams that are on the same level, Browns, Saints, etc. They are either offering big time contracts to help make up for the situation, or they're just going to sit back and draft it out. People want to win, and if they don't want to win they want to get paid. You have an ugly QB situation, and bad OL that cuase ur QB situation, a Fossil RB, and under performing WRs. Your D has some youth but you are losing your biggest D star in Abe, you're whole DL is just going to get softer, your DBs are still young and don't have much experience. The only thing you guys do have is Vilma! Sheesh. You guys aren't exactly set up for a SB run, so why should they come? O yes, money. O wait- you don't have much of that either. The NY Jets are just in a bad bad situation right now.
