I'm from a Detroit Lions Board. My trade idea: We trade DOWN from #9 to #35 in exchange for John Abraham. According to Huddle Report, that's an 800 point value -- the same value as the #21 pick. That leaves you with BOTH Picks #4 and #9. I'm sure you can find something worthwhile -- even coveted with both picks. I'll be curious to read your responses ....
id rather just add an extra pick i wasnt that thrilled with the abe and a 3rd for the 9th we need alot of first day picks another reason i wouldnt want it is b/c at 9 they might draft cutler.......
No thanks. Abraham is in the prime of his career and has elite pass rushing skills. In this sense, he is without a doubt worth a first round draft choice. I sense he'll get moved for a mid/late first round pick. I think that the lions should just stay put and draft tamba hali if they're looking for pass rush.
The offer is definately fair, no doubt about it. However with the Jets many needs and the depth in this draft, if Denver offered 22 for Abraham I'd take it before this offer.
Just want to note that a trade up from 35 to 9 is valued the same as a Pick at #21. Valued (Huddle Report) as more than Denver's #22. True -- if you want quantity -- then my trade may not be what you want. Then again -- you could shop the #9 ... and still presumably get those lower picks you value so much. The Lions envision landing an OG, OT, S, or LB with the 2nd round Pick(s). (I think). Did Abraham get along well with Donnie Henderson (our DC now)?
I think if we don't get a mid first round pick we keep his ungrateful ass and make him play for a contract. If he can make it another year with no injuries pay the man some money. I hope we don't give him up for Ramsey or any other combo of picks. We need a first for him.
I don't like this offer because then there's a hole to fill on the D-line. So we're probably going to have to draft a few DE's if we did this trade. This is a major rebuilding season for NYJ and the defense needs to be strong for the offense to rally.
I don't remember hearing anything about them not getting along. Have to say Detroit got a heck of a DC with Henderson
Yes, if left to do his own deal as he sees fit, he will not disappoint. I don't think Abe had any clashes with Donnie other than when he didn't play vs. Pitt a couple of years ago. We don't know what went on behind the scenes there.
The Lions just signed Jon Kitna within the past hour (and earlier signed Shaun King). And we have 2nd year man Dan Orlovsky from UConn. Sooooo ... as a different trade .... would you take Harrington for Abraham ... straight up?
Update: A few minutes ago, the Lions re-signed Kalimba Edwards. It was believed he'd go to Cleveland but they let him leave without a contract ... and he just re-signed with the Lions. With Kalimba re-signed, presumably Henderson and Marinelli don't feel quite as big of a need to find a good pass rusher (though I have little confidence in Kalimba myself). Sorry for wasting your time ....
Kalimba just re-signed in Detroit. Moments ago. But to answer your question: Kalimba has been a disappointment since he was drafted early in Round 2 of 2002's draft. He gets almost all his sacks against teams that don't protect the QB very well. Example -- in the past 2 years, he's had 11.5 sacks ... but all but one of those came against teams ranked 20th or worse in sacks allowed. Your guy, Abraham, gets nearly 1/3 of his sacks against teams ranked in the Top 10 in avoiding sacks (I think that's what I saw earlier). Kalimba gets 90% against the worst protection teams. Hopefully he can improve under the direction of Marinelli and Henderson. That COULD happen. Good luck with Abraham ...
hmm...trading partners for Abe are becoming fewer and fewer....Maybe he'll just stay here for the 2006 season....I'd rather us keep him than give him to another team for a shitty draft pick ie (2nd or 3rd only)
If we did that, then next year, we either sign him, which doesn't seem possible or we let him walk unrestricted. His franchise match next year would be $10M +. He would be way too expensive for most teams. The time is here and the time is now; otherwise he is here for a year and gone.
Umm, NO! on the Harrington for Abe. But I would trade Abe for your first and Harrington for Abe and our 3rd round pick. That would seem fair to me.
