From PFT: Each year, NFL teams jettison a handful of players under contract. Although no decisions have been communicated, the Vikings seem likely to release quarterback Brad Johnson and cornerback Fred Smoot by the end of this month. Both players have roster bonuses due in March, and Smoot also would have a $2.7 million base salary if he remains with the team Smoot was close to signing with the Jets but picked the Vikes at the last minute. Maybe he should leave his wife in Minnesota this time? lol!
Fred Smoot is a bad conerback that talks way too much smack...no thanks Also it wasn't Fred Smoot that almost signed with the Jets...it was Antoine Winfield. Not to mention this idea was already proposed.
he did well with champ next to him....but who wouldnt if smoot is smart he would suck it up and sign cheap with the broncos or try and resurect his career in washington, but he isnt
smoot has played well all the way till he got to minnesota. i wouldnt mind adding smoot. in fact you take away his 2 years in minny and his resume is way better than dyson's who played 1 game as a seahawk before he came here and played well for us. with coleman and miller i dont think drafting a cb would make sense.. smoot will be one of the best if not the best cb in the market.
From Mike Holbrook PFW I also believe you’re going to see a team like the Jets, Rams, Titans or Cardinals make a big play for CB Nate Clements, who is as good as gone in Buffalo due to the fact that his asking price is extremely high and he had an agreement with the team not to franchise him for a second straight year after applying the tag in 2006. Someone will pay him money that is below Champ Bailey’s $8.99 million and just below Chris McAlister’s $8.41 million.
samuel or clements would be amazing, but (if)washington wants clements and will pay him something ridiculous and record setting...so lets go samuel
well see that diffrent that clements and samuels are way better than smoot. but if we miss the boat on those two guys. smoot isnt a terrible fall back option. he isnt gonna warrent huge money considering his play and injuries the last 2 years.
Smoot sucks. He was burnt over and over again last season, and most of the time he was matched up against the opposing teams #2 WR.
Agreed, Fred Smoot isn't any good. Now with Samuels being franchised I would love it if we went after Nate Clements! A #1 cover corner that can tackle as well. Plus it would leave the Bills with a hole in their secondary.:bills_suck:
No thanks, after the love boat fiasco and the fact that he's probably going to want a big contract. We need cheap free agents who are coachable and draft picks. The only place I would spend money in free agency is on the lines.
