I haven't heard of any players being signed. Do they normally wait till after the Superbowl? (I can't remember) I would think that the teams would start signing free agents immediately, giving them an edge over the teams who still have to prepare for the Superbowl. Is there an NFL rule on this? When do you think the signings will start? As soon as this week?
Well that is not entirely true, if you look at the Jets homesite they have already signed a handful of guys to reserve/future contracts. http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/art...gn-g-adrien-clarke-to-reserve-future-contract Not sure what that means exactly but I think it is for players who are currently out of work who sign a contract that goes into affect at the beginning of the NFL year. I also assume they are unable to negotiate with other teams once signing this reserve/future contract. So the March 2nd date more specifically is the free agent signing and trade period. Does anyone know any more details on what exactly a reserve/future contract is? Just curious if I have it right...
Players not currently under contract to any team are eligible to be signed at any time. That's the situation with the players the Jets have signed in the last month.
I understand that point, but what exactly is a reserve/future contract? Why don't they just say Jets signed so and so to a contract. There is probably some minutiae in regards to player league status, or connections to a team or something. These "reserve/future contracts" seems to be some new term I haven't heard before....
Heh, thought this was the first of the annual 101 threads titled "WHY HAVEN'T WE SIGNED ANYONE YET" We should run a sweepstake on the number of minutes after midnight on 03/02/07 that the first appears. I'm betting within the hour!
  You're probably right. It will be 1-3 AM and we'll be bored lookin around on TGG as we see 3 "Come on Tangini! Sign Asante!" threads
