i see your point, but he does make some sense. most of our big targets in the 1st rd would be off the board most likely. even if we went BPA at our pick people on this board would be complaining. and if we went BPA at our pick it would be a position people would complain wasnt a need but really made sense like WR or OL. if they are interested in trading for turner they should wait till draft day and see whos on the board when were on the clock, if theyre not satisified pull the trigger. that is if the chargers dont put a 1st and 3rd tender on him. otherwise we shouldnt even touch him. my guess is some other team will bite on him before the draft and we wont even be having this discussion. dwayne bowe, justin blalock, anthony spencer, whatever. the more i think about it its way to early to talk picks when were this late in the 1st rd.
That is one of the worst uses of logic I have ever seen. Just because there have been no superstars that have come out at #25 does NOT mean that there will not be on e there this year.
This statement is not based on fact and based on two assumptions made by yourself. First, you claim that the pick will be a "heist" for the Jets. This may or may not be true. Turner may become a superstar, or he may be an overrated, career-long backup who cannot succeed by himself and will cost a team a boatload of money to pay for it. Next, you claim that Leon Washington is not an every down back. You have no idea if he is or is not an every down back, so just stop pretending to know. You're not his coach, you're not his GM, and you're not the one who scouted him. If they go with him, I have more faith in their judgment than I will with yours. And I see people like Brian Westbrook succeeding in Philadelphia, a back who is in the same mold as Leon, and I think he can become an every down back.
I never said that. I was just pointing out the draft is a crap shoot. You kinda know what you are getting in Turner.
Ddin't Santonio Holmes lead just about all rookie receivers this year with the exception of Marques Colston? Maybe I'm biased but I think Santonio has a bright future ahead of him as a Steeler.
I see Turner or a guy like him as a complement to Washington, nothing more. He could be our Duece McAllister, but he's not our LT or Curtis Martin. Therefore, he's not worth a #1 pick, just as Lamont Jordan was not worth the pick. To all who say Leon is too small to be an everydown back, I say again: Garner, Holmes, Barber. First of all, he didn't get hurt this year, so why are you calling him fragile. Second, he will get markedly denser this year after a full cycle in NFL training, and he will get more durable with each passing season. Third, his smaller size will be an attribute that makes him difficult to tackle because he will be difficult to find just like Garner, Holmes, and Barber. Let's throw Little Joe Morris in there as well.
aww how cute...youre gonna listen to the Mod........I will stop the arguing as well. Youve lost the argument, no biggie dude:wink:
I'd keep the pick, I'm not sold on Turner especially for our first rounder. As for the various options laid out earlier, if something is done I believe it will be via trade not the tender. SD will probably tender him high but will listen to offers. They realize that they will lose him for nothing next year so it is in their best interest to get another competent backup and stockpile a couple of picks...
If you say so... it really doesn't matter.. Remind me again what the prize was for winning, or for that matter, what the actual argument was...
There are some pretty good players there, and at least one (Campbell) who could be a franchise player. I just don't see Turner as a potential franchise player. Neither does San Diego, who know him best, because if they did they wouldn't be trading him. If the Jets are really going to risk a trade for a RB with the 25 it would be much better to go to Washington and pry Clinton Portis loose from them. At least Portis is a proven load-carrier and all-around back.
Baker is a decent TE. No point in opening up one hole to fill another. The Jets might profit from looking at Askew as part of the RBBC by committee and going to find another fullback though. Tha's a position you can fill reasonably well in free agency because nobody is going to pay a mint to keep their blocking back and you can make a 15% higher than market offer and still get them relatively cheaply as positions go.
The first rounder seems like too steep a price. I like Turner and think he could be a very productive featured back and his knowledge of the system and coaching staff could only help when the Jets signed Curtis Martin it was after he was signed to the same level of offer sheets. His initial contract was 6 years, 36 million the Jets gave up their 1st and 3rd that year, meanwhile Turner would cost a 1st rounder. If it doesn't work out with Turner we're not talking about something we can just cut our losses with. We're talking about making him the featured back and he'll command starting caliber money and after seeing guys like Jordan and our very own Derrick Blalock show flashes as backups but fail at being the "man" I don't think I'd be willing to part with a 1st rounder.
