The OLB from San Diego could be a wonderful, low salary, pickup this off-season. He had 11.5 sacks but seems to be unnoticable around the league. He is only 25 and he is 6-3, 260. What do you think? Could he be had for around 2 million a year?

he's a RFA. so we will have to give up a 1st or 1st and 3rd rounder for him. i think the chargers will re-sign him though

No thank you. I like Phillips but if we have to give up a 1st rounder for a guy who's benefiting playing with the likes of Merriman, Edwards, and having one of the best d-lines in the game in front of him.... I'll pass. He'd probably be a flop in NY.

We will find our passrushing specialist in the draft.

I don't know, Phillips is pretty well known as far as I'm concerned. Some say he's better than merriman. He's just as ferocious, but more versatile. I think him and Dielman will be resigned - and both for nice salaries - and Turner will get out.

Just wondering are teams allowed to put tenders on more then one player? In the chargers case can they put first round tenders on both turner and phillips?

    Heard the same thing.

Unlike Merriman, he can actually be dropped back to cover.

He's a very good player. I wonder what kind of tender the Chargers will stick on him...

How many sacks did he have when Merriman was out?

Anybody know how he performed during that 4 game stretch?

Nah so long as they have FB ability, Character was a Hess thing & look what it did to us. I will take FB players any day over character since that does not win FB games but ability does

I'd be really surprised if the Chargers let him get away. He is absolutely sick! He has one of the quickest first steps in the whole league and eats up quarterbacks. I'd rather get him than Turner actually. What is the deal with those tenders? Can they tender Phillips and Turner? How does it work?

they can tender phillips and turner, there is no restriction on the amount of RFA tenders a team can put on their players

As much as we would love to have a Shaun Phillips caliber OLB, why would SD let him go...

They have two absolute terrors off the edge, that is the key to their defense.

I agree. I get so sick of some of these guys worrying about spending TOO much money on a player! If that player is excellent, mean and nasty, I say , make him a JET! The object is to win a SB not have a great CAP situation for life but no rings!

If we're giving up a draft pick for a RFA from San Diego, I'd MUCH rather it be for Phillips than for Turner.
