What is Key's contract status?

Think about getting Keyshawn back. He would be perfect for the tough, posession "over the middle, catch the ball in traffic" receiver. We have 3 smaller receivers who run good routs, mostly sideline and post, but we could use a Keyshawn to run across the middle. Coles is tough, but he only has so many hits left in him.

Key has GREAT hands, is not afraid of the middle, runs good routs, he won't "outrun" a Chad pass (kind of a knock on both guys), and he is an excellent down field blocker on running plays.

I would trade McCarins for Key. Does anyone know what Key's contract status is?

Keyshawn's a starter in this league and rightfully so. He still has the potential to be, the problem is, that the last two jobs he's went to the quarterback and #1 receiver already had great chemistry.

He caught 211 balls for 2635 yards in three years and he's coming to a place that has a coach who takes no bullshit, and works hard; to be a backup? No chance.

I would love for the Jets to get Keyshawn Johnson back but i dont know what his contract situation is with the Panthers. He would give us that big tall WR that we have been missing since we traded him.

Good point, plus I can't see him getting along with this coaching staff.

My #19 would no longer be a throwback. I'd love to have Keyshawn back but I'm not holding my breath.

He wasn't over-rated when he played here... he was the focus of an aggressive passing attack when we threw. The biggest change was Parcells stepping down and no one had the nuts to man up and put him in his place, so we did the next best thing... Trade him... and it was a great Trade for us... helped set up the current Jets. The only one who could be called a negative return, was Becht... we got nothing for him, he left as a free agent, but helped the running game immensly.

I never saw anyone go across the middle like Keyshawn. Like him or not, he was never afraid to take a hit.

Receiver is the least of our needs. Its the strength of this team.

    Um.... Wayne Chrebet, maybe?

Johnson was a derisive force on this team. Yes, he's matured out of that some, but his skills are in decline. What we need in a WR is a deep threat. Yeah, I know, with Penny tossing the ball.... but Clemens will get his shot sooner or later. When he does, we'll need that deep threat. Johnson would be a nice short term pickup for a super bowl contender, but that aint us... not yet.

Should I say it? It makes some people crazed.... but he isn't a Mangini guy. His nickname was MEshawn for a reason. Coles complains enough for all the WR's now. no more whiners.

I don't want any player with a habit of calling his teammates out in the press. Keyshawn may have been a hell of a receiver for us, but the guy is a cancer.

Coles and Cotchery almost never short arm a pass. Chrebet too.

I totally agree with Abyzmul though.

Would Keyshawn accept being the 3rd receiver on the Jets? I would not trade either Cotchery or Coles even up for him right now and I wouldn't sit them to get him on the field.

I appreciate his work ethic but I think the ego would get in the way.

He's under contract and has no "out" clause like he mentioned awhile back. I live in Charlotte and its already been said that he plays here or nowhere. Unless someone was stupid enough to trade for him. He tried to say that if Henning got fired then he would use his out clause that he doesn't have.

...he's (Key) kind of like that hot ex girlfriend that dicked you over years ago. Sure she was a bitch, but she looked great, so you put up with her. Now she's packed on a few, and wants to get back together. No thanks.

nah not for bringing keyshawn back he's old news when he was here and played ball and did not write books i liked him. sometimes its how a player leaves your organizations depends on how or if we would take him back. A guy like lamont jordan would always have a place in the jets locker room.
