With all the talk about Turner and Jones, I haven't heard much about the free agent backs, like Dominic Rhodes. Perhaps not an ideal feature back, he and Leon could make for an intriguing twosome. Thoughts?
I didnt think about that.... anyways I can't be selfish, I think if he didn't cost much he would be a great fit with Leon.
I'll take Musa Smith or Adrian Peterson (from Chicago). Add one of them to the backfield and we're set.
I still think we need to get the o line to the point where it can knock people on their arses.... then the RB situation will take care of itself. Guys like Turner and Rhodes ran behind good o lines, and teams with multiple offensive weapons. I don't think their success will translate behind our o line. Musa Smith gets injured an awful lot. Give the rumors about how the Ravens will cut Jamal Lewis, why did they give up on him? He showed flashes, but can't stay healthy. (Lewis is due a big bonus, like 4 or 5 mil, and a salary in the same ballpark for 2007). Speaking of which.... I wonder if Lewis can be had on the cheap for a 2 year contract? He's not what he used to be, but it's all about the O line. Baltimore's O line was awful this year. They won (and lost) purely with defense.
(Looking way into the future) i would like to go o-line more then rb this offseason for one reason. 08 RB CLASS. if some, some of the juniors declare its gonna be one of the best rb classes in a while. 1.darrent mcfadden-arkansas 2.jonathan stewart-oregon 3.james davis-clemson 4.steve slaton-west virginia 5.ray rice-rutgers 6.mike hart-michigan 7.rafael little-kentucky some of the names for next year. i wouldnt mind letting the o'line gel in time for one of these studs. getting someone like rhodes could help the line out some. Stewart in 08!
when has a "rb situation" ever taken care of itself? answer....NEVER. we need more talent at the position. the line is good, a full year under the rooks belts. if they replace anyone its gonna be AC at RT....the 2 guards are solidly in place. mangini praised moore what seemed like on a weekly basis...and im not sure why everybody here hates him. RT can be addressed in a later round....we need a RB in the first 2 or 3 picks. anything after that is going to be much more of a work in progress than anything. leons an exception to the rule....1st year mid-later round RB making an impact that is.
That's odd...I seem to remember the Patriots winning 2 Super Bowls with Kevin Faulk and Antowain Smith at RB.
I remember during the playoffs, they'd talk about how Rhodes/Addai had an amazing relationship, despite the fact that Rhodes was grooming Addai to take his spot. They also said that Rhodes understands blitz pickup tremendously which is why it made it hard for Dungy to take Rhodes out, despite how good Addai had been running. I think Rhodes would be an excellent pickup, for a max of two years though. We will need to see if he and Washington develop into a duo, or if in a year or so we'll need a feature back. We owe it to Washington to give him another year.
you forget to mention that the pats have tom brady not Chad penningtion. with that being said they respect tom brady which enables the backs to run for alot of yards and have a chances to win superbowls. if theres no respect for the qb stack the box and force the qb to beat you. on another note i think we should continue to hit our lines both D and O in this draft because thats the foundation for us. you could only build a building so high before it collaspes without a strong foundation.
That's just one more reason to not address the RB situation this year in the draft, at least not early. First, the Jets are not going to have a running game no matter who is in there if they do not address the right side of their offensive line. Leon will surprise a lot of people once he can use both sides of the field. And secondly, they have much bigger needs on defense that will only be pushed back by the addition of a RB. I think someone like Musa SMith would be a good addition--a bruiser who could carry the load on short yardage/goaline situations and a low risk/high reward type of guy.
