Giving up a 1 and a 3 just doesn't seem Tangini-like... even giving up a 1 is a stretch. But I think these guys put such a premium on drafting. By the by, as far as the all important "character"... any word on Turner personally?
That's just semantics - it's basically the same situation. The Jets had Jordan under contract and controlled his destiny for that year. They entertained trade offers, and when they didn't get what they wanted, they let Jordan play out the year and become a UFA. It's the same situation with Turner - assuming SD is tendering him at a 1st and 3rd (which seems all but done) they in essence control his destiny for this year. No team is going to approach him at that tender , thus enabling SD to entertain trade offers. Even at a 1st round tender, SD can still match any offer and keep him if they wish, or let him go and get a 1st rounder in compensation. The Jets would have jumped all over a 1st round offer for Jordan or even a 2nd rounder for that matter. Finally, SD could just sit tight and let Turner become a UFA as the Jets did with Jordan. That's why I say it's basically the same situation.
if you dont want turner please just say, things like -i dont think hes worth what we would have to pay for him -we have other pressing needs -i think the run blocking should improve this year -i like so n so in the draft and think he can compete anything but, "durrr sounds like lamont jordan". im so sick of jets fans bringing up past scenarios as if were the only team this kind of stuff happens to. its football. shit happens. is there one person with alter egos named lamont jordan and michael turner. who somehow happens to play football for two teams in the same division without the league knowing? didnt think so.
I don't want Turner because he can't catch the ball and I prefer my feature back to be a threat as a receiver out of the backfield. Code: Receiving Year Team G GS Rec Yds Avg Lg TD 20+ 40+ 1st 2004 San Diego Chargers 14 1 4 8 2.0 7 0 0 0 0 2005 San Diego Chargers 16 0 0 0 --- 0 0 0 0 0 2006 San Diego Chargers 13 0 3 47 15.7 30 0 1 0 2 That's SEVEN career receptions, only two of which were for first downs and none of which were scores. Pathetic - I could put up those numbers and I'm a fat Scottish guy.
then if i were you id be wanting to upgrade the OL to run block so we could showcase leon more. otherwise your going to be hard pressed finding a complete back whos also a good recieving threat.
He doesn't have to be an elite receiving threat like Reggie Bush or even as good as Curtis Martin was, just enough of a threat that teams have to bear it in mind. Look at LaMont Jordan's receiving numbers as a Jet: Code: Receiving Year Team G GS Rec Yds Avg Lg TD 20+ 40+ 1st 2001 New York Jets 16 0 7 44 6.3 25 1 1 0 2 2002 New York Jets 14 0 17 160 9.4 27 0 1 0 8 2003 New York Jets 16 0 11 101 9.2 25 0 2 0 5 2004 New York Jets 16 0 15 112 7.5 25 0 2 0 7 Now he was hardly known as a receiving back, but at least when he was on the field there was a possibility that he could come in motion and take a pass, Turner has as many career receptions as Jordan managed in his worst year.
1) Did you realize there's a guy called "Tomlinson" playing for the Chargers? Arguably the best receiver out of the backfield in the NFL. 2) Turner has great hands. Its just that Tomlinson is in their on 3rd downs all the time. The one time Tomlinson was hurt Turner caught 4 passes in one game. Another snippet of his scouting report: "Improving receiver with adequate hands on the pitch-out". And that was 2003. 3) He's SD's kick returner, and one of the best KR's in the league. Does that mean he has GREAT hands? Probably not, but the coaches have enough confident in him and his hands to let him return kicks. 4) Why would you want him or any other RB to become our 3rd down RB? I love Leon Washington. He's an excellent backup at the very least and a great receiver who's a threat to score a TD (or create a bigplay) everytime he gets the ball in his hands.
I don't, I just want the defense to have to worry about what he's going to do once he's in the game - will he fake the blitz pick-up and break out into the flat? No, he doesn't do that. Will he chip the pass rusher and get open for the dump off over the middle? No, he doesn't do that... I'm not saying 3rd down only, I'm saying that when he is on the field I want it to not be obvious that he's either running or he's blocking. Given the number of career carries he has, he should have caught the ball more for the time he's been on the field.
Yes. Turner has 7 catches in three years. That's not under-utilised, that's NOT utilised. Coaches don't make players one-dimensional like that without good reason.
If it comes down to the Jets and Giants I would say the Jets have the inside track just because there still seems to be quite a bit of animosity between the Chargers and Giants front office in regards to their last trade. So theoretically if both teams make similar offers I would not be surprised to see the Jets end up on top, even if that means Turner stays in conference.
gotta agree with Ballhawk, why would you put in Turner on passing downs when you got LT. Thats most likely the reason why he has such few receptions. I can understand if Turner had tons of balls thrown his way and never caught him, but that doesnt seem to be the case
Here's what I was able to find for his college numbers. His receiving stats are not as meager as they are in the pros: Code: | YR Team | G | CMP ATT PYD TD IN | RSH YD TD | REC YD TD | +------------------------+----+--------------------+-------------+-------------+ | 2002 NorthernIllinois | 12 | 0 0 0 0 0 | 338 1915 19 | 10 100 0 | | 2003 NorthernIllinois | 12 | 0 0 0 0 0 | 310 1648 14 | 19 230 3 http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/TurnMi00.htm I do like your point, though. I don't want a RB that can't catch.
