So was Larry Johnson. Come on man- the guy is good. Watch some film of him on youtube-- you'll see why he's a great back.

Larry Johnson was a 1st round pick who rushed for over 2000 yards in a season in college, Michael Turner was a 5th rounder

Leon Washington getting 70-80% of the carries + some form of power back taken in around the 3rd round of draft.

I think the same thing but it is not about "man-love" for Washington or for Houston. I am definitely not satisfied with this running game. Quite frankly comapred to the top tier teams in the conference it stinks. However, I am of the belief that there are way more pertinent problems to address than RB. If we can address RB cheaply than fine. I do not think the Jets have the luxury of using a top pick on a Rb. again this is my opinion.

I think the front office should fix the poor run blocking and lack of kick azz players on the o-line before we can adequately gauge if Houston or Washington as a platoon will or will not work. By kick azz I just mean the line as presently constituted is a finesse line. I think a road grader type or two is desperately needed.

Then I am not even getting to how poor the D-line is as presently constituted. I know this is not rocket science but to win in this division/conference the play in the trenches needs drastic improvement.

I know I keep harping ad-nauseum on this but I really believe that if the O-lines run blocking is improved significantly (which is not difficult for how poor it was this year) the running tandem of Washington and Houston will improve enough to make the Jets more formidable on offense. I can say confidently if you bring in anyone short of LT that they will not be the leading rusher behind this line (sans improvement).

Also my answer is none of the above for the moment.

Seems that people on the board are very divided in there opinions on the RB situation. I voted other because I wan't a lineman in round one, be it O or D. That means no Bush or Turner if the rumored price is correct.

I agree with most of what you said, and think LT wouldn't have been half of what he was this year behind the Jets run blocking line. It all starts in the trenches, and games are won and lost there - that's football 101. Too many people watch too much ESPN and get caught up in the all the highlight running plays and think we must get that "sexy" RB pick or trade for one. In reality the line determines how successful a RB can be. Curtis Martin a countless number of times claimed his success was a result of great line play, and he is one who would know.

Turner, but now willing to give up a 1st round for him even if it is the 26th pick.

for those of you who havent seen the scouting report on M.Bush.......

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    RB Michael Bush 6'3 247 4.55/40

    Scouting Report
    Quote:

Michael Bush has three seasons of experience under his belt at Louisville, missing his senior season due to injury. He has an excellent combination of size, strength and athleticism for a running back. He is a tough between the tackles runner who quickly squares his shoulders, hits the hole hard, and runs through arm tackles. He can be a very difficult player to bring down with one defender. He will break tackles and run over smaller players to gain additional yardage. He has excellent vision and is among the best when it comes to setting up his blocks and following his blockers. His speed isn?t elite, but it is very good for a back his size. He has quick feet and the ability to quickly change directions. He has the ability to get to the outside and turn the corner. He isn?t the most elusive player in the open field but he does have the ability to make defenders miss at times. He is a good short yardage and goal line runner who will move the pile. Michael has good hands making him a threat as a receiver out of the backfield. He?s a former quarterback who can hurt a defense with the halfback pass. Michael needs to improve his blocking and he does have the size and strength in which to do so. He has only played the running back position for three years and has not yet reached his full potential. He split carries his first two seasons before becoming the team?s featured runner as a junior. As a result, some may question his ability to carry the load over the course of a full 16 game NFL season. Durability is going to be the biggest question with Bush. He has an upright, physical running style which leaves him susceptible to injury. Over the past three years Michael has suffered a broken foot, a sprained foot, and a broken fibula. He looked to be a sure first round pick at the beginning of the season and will need to show that he is fully recovered to maintain a first round grade. Michael Bush is the best power running back available in the 2007 NFL draft. He should be a first or second round pick on draft day, with his injury status being the determining factor.

    Another Scouting Report
    Quote:
Bush is obviously a major wild card of the 2007 NFL Draft, as he missed basically the entire season with a broken leg, which he suffered in Louisville's first game. The injury derailed what could have been a 2006 campaign that featured a run for the Heisman Trophy. After all, Bush was coming off a junior season that saw him run for 1143 yards and 23 touchdowns while averaging 5.4 yards per carry. Bush is a monstrosity of a running back, and scouts could still have time to fall in love with him if he is ready to perform well at the NFL combine. If he isn't, then Bush will be a huge risk and could slip into the late-second round or even the third. The fact that Bush has never even pretended to able to block anyone will also hurt his stock. Still, his phenomenal size to go along with solid breakaway speed and outstanding vision should make Bush worthy of an early-to-mid second round selection.

    Another Scouting Report
    Quote:
    Positives:
Bush has an exceedingly rare combination of skills at running back: he's big, powerful, quick, and has tremendous vision for the hole. Add that to a nose for the endzone and soft hands out of the backfield, and you've got yourself a hell of a prospect. He has the power to bowl over linebackers, and the speed and acceleration to run by many safeties in the NFL.
    Negatives:
There's two major problems with Bush, however. He's coming off a major leg injury, and he just doesn't block very well at all. Some say his blocking is adequate, but if one actually looks at his blocking ability, it won't do a thing at the NFL level. It's terrible, really. He doesn't set well, doesn't use his hands well, and has a hard time holding the engagement.
    Overview:
Bush is, as already stated, a rare prospect. The only thing holding him out of a top-20 draft status is the injury. If he has a strong Combine and shows he's healthy and ready to go, his status hits the ?elite? level again. If not, he'll slip through the cracks, possibly as low as the late-second, or even the early-to-mid third. However, a team that gets him that late will very likely wind up with a steal on their hands down the line.

I think if we are willing to part with our #1 we should explore the availability of McCallister or one of the Bears RBs

Kerry Rhodes also earned his way to start for us, this guy is a 3 year backup, and come on he is comparing him to Larry Johnson, lets be realistic here!
