this could be perfect for us the would trade down with us so we could get leinhart we need to start with a possible franchise qb and he fits the bill.
if brees goes to N.O. it will change the whole first half of the draft. we could gp up or move down and recoup some much needed draft picks.
    what do you guys think?

I just don't understand the market for Drew Brees right now. If I were a GM, I wouldn't go within country mile of the guy.

But, yes, New Orleans signing Brees would make everyone readjust their first round projections. If picks 1-3 are a combination of Bush, Leinart, and Cutler, I'd have a trade downward loaded into the barrel and ready to go.

. . . And not just because Vince Young scored less than his Nike size on a cognitive reasoning test.

Blitz, why do you feel that way?

Brees WAS a weak-armed quarterback playing in ideal weather. He's 6 foot even and coming off a shoulder surgery, and wherever he goes he won't have the incredible dump off options that are LT and Antonio Gates.

I think the San Diego offense was structured perfectly for him to achieve maximum success, and I would not invest big money in a guy of his stature after this injury.

This move pretty much guarantees us a QB. If NO stays put, they'll take D'Brick... Now we're almost guaranteed one of either Leinart or Young.

If Brees goes to the Saints he will be in the situation as the Bengals all over again. He is a backup and will play one year while to give Leinhard a year to learn the system.

Coming off MAJOR surgery, at that.

I'm not wishing Drew Brees ill. He's a likable player. If someone could guaratee that he could throw at least as well as he did prior to going down, I might change my mind. Fact is, everybody's guessing.

    Agreed, and I love it.

That being said, I think that Brees will be smart enough to pick sunny South Beach over New Orleans.

I wouldn't say Brees has a weak arm. I wouldn't call it strong either, but it's certainly not weak....

McMike's a pretty solid TE. Not to mention Brown has very solid hands, and can be used in a dump off situation. I don't see much difference between what he had in SD compared to what he would have in Miami....

It was structured perfectly for Brees, and his injury is a concern, but if Brees comes back, and stays healthy, it's a risk worth taking in my opinion. His contract demands are alittle high, so that could make or break him signing with Miami, and I doubt Saban will budge in his stance. Brees may have to settle for less if he wants to play for Miami....

 I see. So, what you're saying is that you can go both ways.

I say this with all sincerity: I don't understand how ANYONE can root for such a despicable domestic abuser like Randy McMichael. On a different day, in a different thread, I'll add Chad Johnson and Larry Johnson to this rant.

We should have higher standards. Even Pfinz fans.

There is such thing as a middle you know. Like saying Brees has an "average arm"...

Why, because he and his wife duke it out once every year???...

His personal life outside of football, in my opinion, is nobody's business. And I don't care what a player chooses to do when he's not playing football. As long as he shows up on game day and makes his contributions, that's all that matters. The NFL is not a popularity contest.....

He CHOSE to beat the hell out of his pregnant wife. He CHOSE to throw her out of a moving car.

I'm sure Randy thanks you for minimizing his pattern of violent abuse as a little more than a hobby.

Who cares that he beats his pregnant wife, as long as he catches TD passes..

And I take it you were there both times, and witnessed exactly what transpired?? The truth is you know nothing about it. You're just taking sides without knowing any of the facts. And that's fine, that's the way you choose to make personal decisions....

Did you ever stop to consider that his wife may be a jealous nutcase???...She is, and although I'm not using that as an excuse to push her around, it has alot to do with the reason why they can't keep from fighting. McMike would be much better off without her, but he loves her, and the way they choose to conduct their marrige is not my business....

Yeah, and no other NFL players have domestic disputes with their wives. PLEASE. You talk about me "minimizing", while at the same time you "maximize"...

Back on track a little. I dont think NO is a lock for D'Brick. Didnt they take a LT high last year, nasty kid from what I rememebr. Maybe it was 2 years ago? I think they go Defense if they are stuck there at 2, although I would suspect that they would prefer to trade down with an Oakland or someone.

    <sigh> From the Miami Herald.
Four witness (that's FOUR [IMG] wonderful witnesses) told police they saw McMichael, who is 6-3 and 245 pounds, throw his wife from the car. One witness said McMichael threw his wife away from the vehicle several times. Cawanna McMichael, 22, was found by police with drops of blood on her shirt. . . .

You're also right that there are two stories. Cawanna has given Randy a few shots and been charged, also. Somehow, she's the one that winds up the the swollen face, when he had his drunken 25th birthday episode. Gee, I wonder why that is. . .

As I said above, I'll get to the others.

This thread turned to McMichael. Randy's about an 8.5 on the Lawrence Philips Scale. You're right, though - he ain't the only one.

Tell me about it, you sound like you speak from experience. What is it you do to keep from smacking your wife when she's having one of her uncontrollable outbreaks???...Assuming she's the nutcase you said all women are....

As long as he does what he gets paid by the Miami Dolphins to do, his personal disputes off of the field are not of my concern. He's human, and just because he can't get along with his wife, doesn't take anything away from him as a player...

Quote from Drew Brees in the San Diego Tribune:
"Being a part of the rebuilding of New Orleans would be a great opportunity. The opportunity to come to a place that kind of needs that rebuilding and resurgence; there's something to be said for being a part of that.”

all the brees situation does w/ respect to the draft is guarantee that someone will be willing to give up a kings ransom in order to move up and select a qb w/ the NO pick.

Of course, NO would have to sign brees. And as far as sunny south beach vs. bombed out new orleans is concerned -- I'd live anywhere in the country if I was going to make 5 million dollars more than if I was in miami. That includes Anchorage Alaska, Bettendorf Iowa, Witchita Kansas, Kansas City Missouri (the armpit of america) and Camden NJ. Those are some of the worst places I've ever been to. If you said to me: Boydstein, you can either have 20 million in miami OR 25 million in Camden, what'll it be? I would say: I'm moving to camden right now. That's just me. I don't think that argument holds any water. And don't say "what's five or 10 mil to a superstar athlete?", cause money is money.
