While I think there’s a chance Ty Simpson could be in the Jets plans or at least a scenario in the Jets plans I don’t see them taking him at 16.
The QB class in ‘27 is better but I also think there’s a chance the Jets could be in on Simpson but not at pick 16. Also, even if the Jets do wind up with Simpson in the second round that does not preclude them from taking a QB in 2027. A team in the Jets position should not leave any stone unturned at QB. Whether it’s Simpson in the second round (after a trade down maybe with an extra pick) or another QB in the fourth round there’s a chance they won’t be considered “busts” but maybe high end backups which is just as important in today’s NFL. How many Jets seasons have been ruined with not having a capable NFL back up….
But our history or recent history shows that they will not select the QB the following season after selecting one, they will give him a chance to prove he's shit and then select another when we have a regime change lol Simpson has good mechanics but has other issues, maybe Reichs is the man to do what we have never done before and develop a QB for the future? #16 is too rich for me but I suspect he will go before then anyway.
I don’t see Simpson going before 16. I think 16 is too high to me the highest I see him going is with the Steelers at 21. If they pass he may get to round 2. If he WERE to go before 16 that just means one of the top 15 selections drops to the Jets. I don’t see Simpson as a top 15 but we’ll see. Remember history is history this is a new GM. At least so far he seems to be making the right moves.
I believe if the Jets do the sensible thing which is hire your ex-head coach that would sway their opinion.
Don't get me wrong, I don't see him as a top 16 either but somebody always jumps for a QB, essentially this year it is a class of two and then even bigger projects. You may be right that the Steelers could be that team.
Coach McDermott is perfect for the Jets. I wouldn't look elsewhere he's my #1 choice. He stepped into a similar situation in Buffalo (playoff drought) and got it turned around, he knows the division. My goodness how is he not already here? Coach A.G. could show improvement, the record could improve still Woody would be justified in firing him because of his crap record after two seasons and the options available out there now. Also Harbaugh with the Giants if they start making noise there will be pressure on Woody to bring in a big name head coach here. Some people in the media may push for a Harbaugh-Tomlin 'reunion' in New York I hope not. McDermott should be the guy. That's why to me it feels as if there is a great sense of uncertainty around the team now.
I definitely can see McDermott going to the Jets next year armed with a fat contract, an improved team, 3 first round picks, and an opportunity to stick it to the Bills - now a division rival. Absolutely…..
A GM that's established himself, 3 first round picks to take his QB, over half of the league has 1st or 2nd year coaches, yes I can certainly see that happening, did you bump your head when you jumped on the table?
Terrible ownership is still terrible ownership. And no one cares about the jets “3 first round picks.” The jets never get the draft picks right anyway, and the small percentage of the ones that do, they trade away because the players don’t want to be there (Jamaal, Leonard Williams, sauce, Q, the list goes on and on). Not to mention they’re in a division with Josh Allen and Drake Maye. There is nothing positive or attractive about the jets job. Maybe he wants to get “revenge” on the bills, but that would be stupid, for all of the reasons above. I think he’ll have his pick of Jobs and unless he just truly wants to be in the division, I can’t see him (or most) wanting the job.
