Breaking: After a historic 19-season run in Pittsburgh, Mike Tomlin just informed his team that he is stepping down as the Steelers head coach, sources tell @JFowlerESPN and me. The Steelers now will be looking for only their fourth head coach since 1969. pic.twitter.com/KvkPv3lA1W — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 13, 2026
Tomlin and Harbaugh both available but we put all our trust in the hands of Glenn. Can somebody please fuck my life?
It was probably the right move to move on from Tomlin but I think it was a worse than the Ravens moving on from Harbaugh. I think Tomlin’s a better football coach. The Steelers have such an antiquated way of designing their football roster. The architect of the personnel is a lot more at fault than the coach IMO. They’ve continually invested way too much into the defense.
Also look at the QB's Tomlin had to work with. Honestly I would go after Tomlin before Harbaugh but looks like Tomlin will take a year off and he will be the prize of next year's coaching carousel where Jets will be in play as well. I doubt he is coming here unless we have the top pick though.
Steelers hold his rights/contract, so if he indeed wants to coach in 2027, Steelers would need to be compensated.
People are so hypocritical when it comes to Tomlin. Everyone who knows anything about football knows you're not winning or getting very far without a franchise qb, yet they roast Tomlin for not getting very far without a franchise qb. They gave this guy Duck Hodges, Mason Rudolph, Mitch Trubisky, 42 year old Aaron Rodgers, Kenny Pickett, and an old ass Roethlisburger who can barely move. Then they're all like "this guy is one and done every year, fire hiim." Like what? Its a miracle he got as far as he did with that QB in that division, and the AFC in general, not to mention the lack of personnel on offense.
I wouldn't count Ben on your list. He was a legit franchise QB who helped Tomlin and the Steelers win the Super Bowl. As for the other QB's I agree with you.
Pittsburgh loves gritty defense. I think it will be Brian Flores, unless they can convince Notre Dame's Marcus Freeman to make the jump, and they might be able to best job on the market right now. 3 coaches since 1969 will do that for you
Usually the "best jobs" are ranked in terms of what their QB situation is and if they dont have one, how easily can they acquire one (i.e. a top draft pick combined with ability to get a good QB coming out). Of course things like organization matters (no one wants the jets or browns regardless of QB options) and FA dollars, but to me there's not much attractive about Pittsburgh. They have no QB, and no ability to acquire one (unless the coach believes in a QB up for trade like Kyler Murray or Mac Jones). They have a very old and expensive roster, especially on defense, where tough and unpopular decisions are going to have to be made. There's a lot of pressure in that town to win as well. To me, the Ravens are without question the best job because of Lamar and a roster stacked with all pro's and pro bowlers. Ownership is also great. Giants would be 2nd since they have both an attractive QB and credible ownership. After that, everyone else has flaws imo.
Sorry. What is the Giants ownerships credibility? I know my teams owner is Woody and he sucks but what makes Giants ownership credible? They made pretty stupid decisions since Tom Coughlin left.
Giants job is attractive depending on the candidate. It's a case of a young QB working against them in some cases. Jaxson Dart is a controversial talent, some coaches for sure would believe he's good and be excited to coach him, others won't be
I think they've been good, but Judge was always questionable to me. The thing I dont think the giants are doing correctly is keeping Schoen. Everyone knows he's a sitting duck and I can imagine it would be hard for a coaching candidate to want to sign up for a job where there's a good chance the GM will be fired in a year and the new one coming in will want to pick his guy. Wouldnt surprise me if they have to do what the Jags did last year and fire Schoen late in the process in order to get the coach they want.
Nobody was saying it, but if the Giants had lost out and gotten the first pick, I can't see any way in which Dart would have remained a Giant.
