I'm just going to put this out there. 1,000 yd. rusher isn't jack. Considering what that offense looked like, Breece Hall should have been in the running to break the "yards from scrimmage" record by 25%. At LEAST. Total and complete abject failure of Glenn and Engstrand to basically not FEED that guy the ball on 75% of the snaps. Outside of ONE return guy on Special Teams there was Z-E-R-O to come away positive about with this team. Oh, BTW, if I'm Hall I tell the entire organization to kiss my ass on the way out.
Here's what I'll say again about why there's reason for people to believe it could at least look competent next year... the offensive tape shows it can work. It shows the people who were executing it were fucking horrendous. Remove your thoughts on whether or not you think that's Glenn's fault for bringing in Fields, sticking with him too long, etc. The fact is the tape shows dudes running free and our QBs (well mostly just one of them) having absolutely no idea what to do with the ball. Even Tyrod... in that Panthers game we had two plays that should have been TDs but he underthrew both of them. The offense CAN work. You put someone like Cousins back there (unfortunately) and I'm willing to bet with our OL and run game... assuming Breece is back... our offense looks more league average than worst in the league. I don't worry about the offense with an actual bridge QB. I worry a lot about the defense, and now the pressure is on Glenn to figure it out.
Buddy, the defense was awful too, even before we traded anyone away. In fact, the only reason we traded anyone away was because the first half of the season went so poorly. We finished 32nd in both point differential and yardage differential - the only time that has ever happened in league history. Do you guys defending Glenn ever stop to think that maybe we'd be better off next year improving both the roster and coaching? Why is it so binary in your eyes? Isn't an improved roster with an improved coach better than just an improved roster?
I swear these people leave the trash in their bins for fear of having to fill it with smellier trash later.
I did, but when the team is historically incompetent on both offense and defense, it's really hard to believe it was just because of the roster. For what it's worth, I think Engstrand did a decent job this year for many of the reasons you said. Glenn was an abject abomination though.
No head coach whose team finished the season with zero interceptions has ever been fired. Glenn’s probably not going anywhere.
So what you're saying is you agree with what I said... I'm confused. "It could at least look competent" does not equal "all the problems will be solved with better players"
You were saying how guys were open on offense but our QB couldn't get them the ball. I largely agree with that. But Glenn was the guy who picked that QB, and now we want him to be the guy guiding the selection and development of a new young QB?
I think we do agree, Glenn should be fired AND we need to improve the roster. We are on the same page or am I missing something here?
Since we're talking about coaching and running it back with the All world HC of the year Glenn and his hand picked offensive wunderkind, I'd like someone to explain the stat, below, to me.... Can someone explain this stat to me: Christian McCaffrey: 413 Touches Bijon Robinson 366 Touches Breece Hall 279 Touches
This is where we're not gonna have a productive convo. The Fields thing in no way alters the way I feel about this regime's ability to scout talent. He was a dart throw on a glorified one year deal in a year where we weren't spending big money and were about to start a rebuild. I could not stand Fields, hated the signing, but completely understood why you'd take a chance in an era where dudes are having career revivals left and right. It didn't and doesn't affect our ability to draft a new QB or sign free agents. It's a totally inconsequential move IMO. The problem with it is you basically wasted a year of seeing what you have in guys like Taylor, Mitchell and Metchie. Although part of that gameplan was to have Tyrod take over and assume the "see what you have" responsibilities but Tyrod goes down after a stiff breeze.
Your argument was that the coaching staff is not to blame for the jets sucking, that its mostly on the players. Your evidence for this was to state that the bills backups would have started on the jets and they were better and the jets players are worse. Then I point out to you that its not the case by showing you the game day lineup, and ask you to point out which of the bills players are better and who would start on the jets. You clearly looked at the rosters yesterday and realized you were wrong, because instead of responding back with who on the bills is better, you're saying the argument is not that important and im not worth the time lmao.
It's not worth the time because no matter how much I list out for you and explain, you're just gonna fire back with more stupid shit as you've been doing for over a decade. I've already explained like three times what I meant, I can't help that you can't accept it or don't understand it. No one with a brain looks at the players the Jets played yesterday and says "this is a coaching issue"
Well it’s funny actually…and not to pick on you guys, but seems like both @BroadwayAaron and @JackBower are on the “AG deserves another year” track. Great…it’s all opinion on here and none of us has any say in making the actual decisions. So it’s not personal at all, but I just can’t understand why you guys are ok with keeping Glenn, I just don’t get it. Forget deep dive stats, just watching the games we are fully and totally incompetent. Yes our roster sucks, and no one was expecting playoffs or even like 8 or 9 wins. But I don’t think we were wrong to not expect full on bottom feeder, NFL futility records either. This did not look like a team fighting hard and making progress. At all. The roster is poor, but these players pretty much all looked worse than they did in the past under a better coach. The QB was handpicked by some combo of AG/Mougey, and the trades were made when we already lost the season but the truth is we looked ass even before those trades, even on D. I didn’t expect wins, but I for sure didn’t think our roster was THIS bad. AG elevated no one. He made a lot of bad in game decisions. He didn’t coach up any guys. He didn’t install discipline and focus. He didn’t introduce great schemes. He talked a lot of shit about toughness and accountability and “our brand of football”, but when questioned about it, he reacted like a spoiled child and never actually articulated what exactly he meant by “our brand of football”…it was pure bullshit coach speak. To me, he did nothing to “deserve” another year. I get that he will be back, and the moves made show it, so while I can’t actually do anything about that, I can come on a board and have a decent discussion about it, and sure, bitch and moan a little bit. And to be fair, I’m not sure either of you guys are actually saying “we have to keep AG” or anything like that…feels like you are saying you are ok with giving him another year if that’s what it is, but just to me, I can’t be ok with it. Again, nothing I can do but bitch about it with my friends or on this board, but I just have such a hard time knowing that we will have to endure another year of this shit, and knowing that it’s like 99% chance that AG will bust out and we will be back to square one. Again. Because Woody is a fucking idiot. Anyway, I’ll say again, I like the conversation…I just don’t understand your position as there is not much anyone can point to with AG to hang our hat on other than the hope that he’ll improve with a better roster. I say hope because there is really no tangible evidence that AG is a good HC. Hell, there’s little enough evidence that he’s a good DC either. But to me, hope is not a plan. It’s not a strategy.
I feel like I've had to explain four different times that this isn't accurate. And I really made GoldenShowers mad by not voting in the poll, but if you stalk internet poll results like he does, you can see my actual answer.
I am at a loss why are you debating though? @REVISion, @Jets79 , you, me, and most others agree that Glenn should be fired AND we need to improve the roster. Or did I misunderstand your position?
If a coach with Pete Carroll's resume can get fired after one year, Glenn certainly can and should be.
