Why would any coach want to keep Rodgers here? He accomplished nothing on the field while he was here and every year presented the question of if he was going to show up. That wasn't going to change with a coaching change. Any coach coming here would be looking ahead 5-10 years, not looking back at what the guy did ten years ago. You are entitled to your opinion of what may have been "likely" but that's all it is - your opinion. I don't remember seeing any hall of fame coaches, past or present saying the Jets should have kept the guy.
and since then the only HC hired that had any previous HC experience was Adam Gase who had just been canned in Miami. and Al Groh jumped ship after a 1 year stint and a winning record to go to UVA.
Merry Christmas dude. You were equating being the Jets head coach to putting your dick in a pickle slicer though lol. It’s all good. Have some egg nog.
You know guys how I like to shit on Woody when he deserves it, but I do like the truth, evidence, and facts first and foremost, and will go where ever they lead me, even if it contradicts what I previously thought. In this case, as dumb as Woody proved to be later, what you are saying is not exactly how it went down. Parcells didn't run. He didn't want to coach anymore because it is very demanding and he was getting older, but he actually stayed as the GM. Also, I know we are going far back down the memory lane, but it was not clear who would be the buyer until basically January of 2020. It was very close between Woody and Dolan and went down to the wire. We were talking about the biggest NFL team sale at the time. Belichick resigned on Jan 4th, and it wasn't just spur of the moment decision, he must have talked to Kraft and had everything finalized for a while before that. Woody was not confirmed yet as the owner and it looked like Dolan could actually emerge there. The bottom line is, there was definite uncertainty, and Kraft took advantage and got Belichick. I cannot blame Woody for this. I CAN blame Woody that now, 25 years later, he is following antiquated approach with the guy who reminded him of Parcells, but clearly no Parcells, and probably not willing to rectify his mistake after 1 year, like Kraft did with Mayo, but what happened with Parcells and Belichick is not on him. It probably would have been better if Dolan bought the Jets, but at the same time the Knicks were not doing very well under him either, and he was also considered the worst owner in sports, but looks like things turned around a bit after he stepped away. Hence my hope that Brick can actually step in at some point soon and maybe improve things...
The title changes for this thread just keep keep on getting better and better. I think Coach A.G.'s master plan is to start off 6-28, 8-26 something like that his first 2 seasons before things start getting good around here because 2025 is looking like 3-14 with a bunch of blowout losses to close the season. How good will they be in 2026 with a bunch of rookies? Coach A.G. the man with the plan.
Fields and Russ did the same with the same coach. Again, read my posts, I even gave you the link where most GMs/Coaches would not have kept Rodgers in our situation. Let's move on already from him, we need a new young QB for years to come, not someone who can retire any minute now.
The Steelers also went 10-7 with a combination of Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph and Mitch Trubisky throwing for 186 yards/game with 13 TDs/9INTs. None of them threw for more than 6TDs in the year. Rodgers has been pretty good there for sure, but he also won 5 games here with a similar roster. And he would’ve prevented the Jets from trading Sauce/Q.
I am moved on. Im happy he got out of this mess. Now he is free to have as much success as he wants in Pittsburgh because he has a competent head coach despite the defense being lackluster.
I don't really give a fuck about him one way or the other. I am a Jets fan, and I want them to lose against the Browns since it puts us above the Browns in the draft and also gives us weaker strength of schedule since we played Pitts. I wanted him to come because I thought he could help us win, but the fact is he didn't and won less than Zach for variety of reasons. If he stayed we would have won a couple of more games like last year and would still suck but with a worse draft pick. It was the right decision to move on and the key for us is to get a young QB for the future. Moving on...
Agree...this team has not improved, period. That should get AG fired but we all know Woody won't so his Christmas gift to us is to have AG coach in 26....
If he stayed and had the Jets hired a competent head coach the Jets would be in a playoff race right now in a completely wide open AFC which pretty much every playoff team has a shot at going to the Super Bowl. Its a win-now league; when you have a shot at going for it you do it.
How great would it be to see Aaron Rodgers go out on top the way Elway & Manning did? I hope he gets that ending he deserves it. Last year at the end of another wretched, lost Jets season he stayed in there to the bitter end. 4 TDs in the season finale victory over the Dolphins. Not once did he think I'm better than this I don't want to play in 'meaningless' games. I'll save my body for the future. A consummate professional. I was blown away by that. People are saying this could be Buffalo's year no KC, no Baltimore but if the playoffs started today Buffalo would be @ Pittsburgh in round 1 of the playoffs. To me that looks like one & done, hello & goodbye for Buffalo.
Yep especially after everyone wrote Rodgers off. Manning or Brady in their prime would have lost last year with the Jets. It was blatantly obvious. Yep he played the last week of the season when he did not have to. He also fought tooth and nail to get back on the field after his injury when he could have taken his time. He was so selfless despite being put in a bad spot with the injury. At least we now know Rodgers is fully capable of winning and taking a team to the playoffs when there is competent head coach. Rodgers has been vindicated. Meanwhile the Jets became an even bigger mess.
If we hired a competent HC, a lot of things could have been different. But we didn't. It's now speculation on top of speculation. As things stand right now, he would not have helped but only hurt draft position. And btw, even in the video you posted Rodgers said was mostly upset he flew in for a short meeting, but he didn't want any part of the Jets, since the Jets were already a debacle. Listen to your own tape, around 3 min mark. He then shitted on the Jets after Pitt beat us. The Jets gave him everything that he wanted and then some. And he also tried his best. It didn't work and the new coach wanted to move on. That doesn't mean he should be saying we are debacle and then shit on us after. Even if true. We already been shat on for a very long time, and don't need to hear it from him too.
If we get the right QB and right head coach it will be worth it. However it has not happened yet. We shall see
“A consummate professional”? Holy mother of stupid. Homer Simpson is about the level of professional Aaron Rodgers is. Arod happens to have elite athletic skills. Which have been deteriorating for years.
“Essentially the problem I had with the whole arrangement eventually was when all of this transpired there was no owner,” Belichick said. “Mr. Hess passed away before the ’99 season. There were two potential owners and that was [Woody] Johnson and [Charles] Dolan. I hadn’t spoken with either one, but I had issues with both, and it wasn’t Mr. Hess anymore, which was the original agreement or the original context we talked about. That whole ownership configuration at that point in time was a major factor in my decision much more than a personal relationship.”
