I would say should be fired but only if you have another coach in mind. Think what the Pats did when they moved on from Mayo after a year bc they wanted Vrabel all along. If someone like Harbaugh or Tomlin are available and willing to come here we absolutely should upgrade and truly change the culture. But we won't.
Above all else, Glenn chose to dump his Hall of Fame QB and WR (both of whom WANTED to be here) and decided to go with Fields and John Metchie instead. That's on him. He doesn't get to use "we aren't talented enough" as an excuse. That's the excuse you get to use when you inherit a team with Zach Wilson as it's best QB on the roster. Now those two Hall of Famers are on competitive teams that are in the Super Bowl conversation ... and Glenn's fanbase is hoping he loses so they can draft a QB to replace the guy he dumped. I'm 50 years old. I'm done with giving morons five years to definitely demonstrate they are morons.
Yep if the Jets hired a real head coach I fully believe they would be in playoff contention and right now in an AFC that is wide open. Would it shock me if the Steelers go to the Super Bowl? Absolutely not. The Jets could have been in that spot right now.
I remember loads of Steelers fans calling for Tomlin to get fired last year and I was just praying that they would be dumb enough to do it so the Jets could try to get a good and experienced HC in
And, to think, the decisions made from there just continued to get worse somehow. And then we got to see the game management skills... or lack thereof.
I would say during the middle part of the season (and week one), this team looked fairly competent/competitive. Which is not a particularly optimistic thing to say in the scheme of things, but with the disaster that has been the last three games, it's easy to forget they haven't looked totally abysmal all year long. What stands out to me is that Aaron Glenn glaringly looks like a first-time head coach and feels like he's figuring things out as he goes along, even more than an average first-time coach IMO. There's too much inconsistency with what he says and does and that's really concerning. Obviously, it's hard to believe anything other than it's not going to work out ultimately, but all I can do is hope he improves as a coach in year 2. If they could get something that resembles decent QB play, it might change a lot. It's cruel how bad that has been.
We were ok for a few game stretch where the special teams bailed us out and we played a bunch of terrible backups. Fact is we have been abysmal all year, Glenn is far from average, statistically he's far below average well into the Kotite Gase dungeon.
There is a lot of momentum negatively building toward Glenn. Hopefully it picks up even more over the next two weeks. He has got to go. It's over.
What is Glenn good at? What can we hang our hat on and say that even though the record/performance isn’t up to standard we know that Glenn is good at XYZ to turn this around. Player development? Will Mcdonald- regressed Jermaine Johnson- regressed J Sherwood- regressed Quincy Williams- regressed Sauce/Quinnen- regressed and traded away Membou- solid player, but has regressed a little over the season (in fairness rookies usually do as they acclimate to a longer season) Breece Hall- our biggest weapon by far, still getting minimal touches while QB’s like Cook/Fields/Taylor get 30+ pass attempts a game. Juwon Briggs- seems to be the only guy playing above his median level. Is it game strategy that sets Glenn apart? Is that what he brings to the table? Like going for it from our own 42 yd line in the 1st Q barely 5 mind in the game? Or however many other head scratching timeouts or decisions to run out the clock? Is it player motivation and accountability? Do we have any examples of guys hustling beyond the play, giving their all? Every post game it seems all he tries to lean on is the statement that guys are playing hard etc… but I don’t see it. Is it play design, or game design? Do we look any different week to week based on who we play? Do we even bother watching film on opponents? Is it authenticity? The guy ran a HoF QB out of here and hand picked Fields saying we are here to win now. Then it was big ships turn slow. Then it’s a whole lot of “watching the film” and player development. The goal posts have moved all year long. I’m gonna be honest, I don’t see a single valuable asset as a HC that Glenn brings to the table. This is what happens when you hire failed GM’s (one of which we fired!!!) to try and find us the right people. It’s a shame because I think we might have lucked out with Mougey, who has given us alot of talent via the draft and FA/trade moves, but unfortunately Glenn steers a slow ship when it comes to competence.
Great summary. Mougey is actually a former QB, was a roommate of KOC and I think has proven himself so far. Now we actually have someone who may be able to find a good coach. If there is some world where Woody fires Glenn and asks Mooge to find a coach, we might actually have a chance. I just don't know if this world exists.
Exactly… We beat the Browns with Dillon Gabriel, and it STILL took both a punt return and kick return TD to win that game…we played the Bengals without Burrow. Context makes a HUGE difference here. We weren’t ever good, we just caught bad teams on bad days…does anyone think if we were playing the Bengals this week with Burrow and their defense doing a bit better that we’d have any shot of winning? Same for the Bears who are getting better play from Sanders than they did from Gabriel. I think we’d lose to either of those teams if we were playing them this week. I think the only game where we really looked competent was the opener against Pitt, which we should have won if not for a 60+ yard FG Other than that we’ve been bottom two or three in the league, right there with the Raiders, Titans, and Giants. And our draft position will reflect that. AG has been a total and complete disaster…much much worse than Saleh was. At least Saleh knew how to field a fucking defense, and he was saddled with Zach, who is like #3 on the fish now and can’t get on the field… Of course, MANY of us knew this would happen as soon as the hire was announced. If you’re going to hire a rookie DC, it would at least be nice if they, you know, actually coached a GOOD defense…
Glenn at the end of the day is Woodys beta-male bitch that was the lone yes-man willing to do what woody wanted. Everyone else told Woody "NO" but Glenn said "YES WOODY". I knew from day one this was horrible choice and it has now played out. Thanks Woody Johnson you awful awful clown. From last February:
I don't get it. Who told Woody no? I mean Glenn is a bad coach and was probably not a good choice to begin with, but you are just making things up at this point.
Not that it would matter much but Tomlin and Harbaugh (both Harbaughs) have legacies. I'm not sure they would want to tarnish that by coming to this crap hole. You want to know what makes good head coaches? Smart decisions. Coming to this shithole franchise is NOT a smart decision by any stretch of the imagination. Now, $$ can cure a lot of things I just don't see Johnson throwing $30 million per season at any coach, period. Because, if I were Tomlin/Harbaugh(s), that's exactly what I would be asking for.
I think it depends on whichever owner is the biggest douche on that day. But Woody is just as bad as Haslam and Davis.
Glenn has sucked so far, but let's see if he learns and comes back better next year. That's the best we can do right now: be patient. But that's the life of a Jet fan. Just wait until next season!
