Since we have some time during the off week when discussion will be light, let’s see how we can fix the Jets! Assumptions There are no trade down opportunities available. My preference is to move down and take a QB in the second or later on, but it’s not there. I don’t love Mendoza as high as he’s rated but I do think his decision making and intelligence gives him a high floor The remaining 5-6 roster spots will be filled with a mix of players currently on the team and what not. Didn’t get into the weeds for some of the remaining roster spots that are filled out in camp Assuming my contracts and dollar values will just about line up with our cap space that’s I’ve seen a $15 million variance among OTC and Spotrac. Give me a break on the contracts and dollar values perhaps being a bit off A lot of you guys get your wish. We retain Breece. Would you blame him? You have a short window in the NFL, his prime is being wasted on this garbage franchise
I’d have to imagine if the Jets keep him at the deadline there’s active discussions or were offseason discussions as to him being willing to work out a long term deal. I’m with you. Every indication say he’s sprinting for the hills in February. But to pay a running back a top 5 average salary isn’t really that big of a lift. The $15 million/year up there would tie him for third with Derrick Henry in average yearly salary for running backs. (https://overthecap.com/position/running-back)
Im not saying this is impossible or even unlikely, I'm saying that offense is atrocious and we'd be calling for everyone's heads by this time next year. Again.
So AVT just walks as a free agent? Do you even make him an offer? How does Quinnen Williams feel about you letting his brother walk?
Why is the offense so atrocious? You’re adding two new receivers including a deep threat in Pierce and maybe the quickest slot guy in the draft along with two new guards. Yeah AVT walks. He’s never available. Quincy was a nice story and had one really good year. He’ll be 30 in August and hasn’t been able to replicate his All-Pro year. Time to move on.
You need a better safety. I would trade down if possible, take Sellers in the teens/20s range of the draft and add a safety with the draft proceeds. Otherwise I like it, although I'm not a big Sam Howell fan. Ah gotcha missed your assumptions about not being able to trade. NM then -- I'd love the Concepcion pick he is a fun player
I think it's the Howell of it all. I think he's atrocious. Gunslinger that misses wildly more often than not. So in my head we've already moved on to Mendoza by week 6 whether or not he's ready, then he flops and we kill another QB. Decades of this will do that to you I guess.
No disagreement in Howell not being the greatest choice but what do you do to bring a veteran QB in? The hope is Howell never sees the field and whichever QB you draft takes the reins and runs with the job in camp. Howell has at least started a full year in the league and was a 3-year starter at UNC so he’s played a lot of football at 25-26 years old. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/_/year/2026/position/qb Gardner Minshew maybe? Malik Willis? I want nothing to do with the older veterans who we know what they are already ala Case Keenum, Wentz, etc. Maybe take a crack at Trey Lance? We have a big gaping hole of draft picks where you’d probably nab a starting safety in the third round. I admittedly don’t know a ton about the safety prospects in the draft beyond Downs.
Have to agree here. Unfortunately, the main "ability" in the NFL is AVAILABILITY and this kid simply doesn't have it. Excluding 2025 he's played in 43 out of 63 games. By the end of this year it'll be 85 total games he could have played in and his played in games will be what, 44 or 45? That's a bad return.
