I think we are bottom third in yards allowed as well But more than that, it’s also relative…the stats are the stats and that won’t lie, but if you watch this defense, they fold in crunch time. Couldn’t hold a lead late in the 4th quarter in both our losses. Sure, they held the other team to FGs, and the Steelers one was a 60 yarder, but that’s the point. A better defense doesn’t allow a drive for a FG when you’re up by less than 3 points late in the 4th. Or another point … how many times does this defense give up a first down on stupid penalties? Too many. We may not be THE worst defense in the NFL right now, but we are for sure in that conversation and we are in that grouping already…maybe we can climb out of it and I hope we do, but if not, then Wilks has to go
What IS that?? I actually called the Sauce bullshit PI penalty for 19 yards before they lined up for the snap. Looked at my wife and said, "here comes the dagger. A 3rd down penalty to give them a 1st." Like clock work. Folks, talent/not enough talent, I'm talking about BASICS! Running, staying in your lane, set the edge and, above all, fucking TACKLE! Wrap up!! Who, on this board played at least Pop Warner football? Do these things strike a memory nerve? Fix your eyes on the ball carrier's chest or hips, whatever you were taught Drop your hips and begin to break down Put your face mask in his chest WRAP UP!!!! I'm damn sick of these men loading up for the "big hit" so they can do their bullshit dances or whatever. I'm not sure what motivated A.G. to bring Wilks on as D.C. but it was a bad decision. Wilks defenses in San Francisco were exactly the same. They had a ton more talent but their tackling was shit to be sure! This team IS a bottom 5 defense. I don't care what the stats say I'm talking about taking a look at all three games and seeing a shit pile mess. The ENTIRE fucking unit over runs every play to the edges. Cook is good but he's not the best back this team is going to see. King Henry and Kamara are going to run up and down on this non-tackling bunch. I dunno folks, The offense hasn't been super wow but this team should be 2-1, in my opinion. Pittsburg and Tampa were both winnable. This defense better get their shit together.
The pass rush was nonexistent yesterday. Pretty good against the run. The Jets defense acted like the Dolphins introduced misdirection and bootleg to the NFL yesterday. They’ve never seen it before in their lives I guess.
First and foremost, Steve Wilks sucks. That said; we know who the liabilities are on defense. There’s not much we can do about those guys. Moving on from that, in order for us to have any chance of fielding an even mediocre defense, our perceived better players on defense have to make plays. Michael Carter II & Janine Sherwood have been outright bad after recently getting the bag. Will McDonald has made plays but has also disappeared for large stretches. Aside for the occasional TDs & crucial 3rd/4th down receptions given up to no name receivers, the weak tackling, penalties and inability turn the ball, the highest paid of them all, Ahmad, “has done his job”. Quinnen is the only one of our “stars” on defense, I can say has been consistently been playing his ass off. I kind of feel bad for him.
Another winnable game pissed down the toilet. And it's not just the defense. 3 turnovers and how many penalties? The defense has been bad, but they are missing key players in Quincy Williams and Jermaine Johnson. Sauce complaining about the refs looks bad, but he's not wrong. Most calls against him have been tickytacky bullshit. I know it's not the refs costing us games, it's the team itself, but the officiating WAS lopsided last night. A lot of that was on us, but inconsistencies like calling the roughing call on Tua but not the 2 times on Fields when he was hit in the head and also body slammed out of bounds... or when Tippman got hit in the face. That shit doesn't help.
I could be completely wrong about this but I think AZ, Stiggers & Moore can really play but the higher compensated guys/vets get most of the playing time.
Do we have the right people to play the 4/3? Perhaps we should get a huge guy to play NT and utilize QW and one of our underrated DE's on the other side. Move JJ and WMD into LBs ? Just a thought..
You either need to waive Tony Adams or at the very least bench him. It doesn’t always have to be about preaching accountability but he simply fucking sucks. Moore was a handpicked Nick Saban recruit with 5 years of starting experience in college and started as a true freshman. That’s pretty hard to do at Alabama. Point is I have to imagine he’s a smart hard nosed player. Those Saban defenders always translated to at the very least be serviceable if not good players. Give the kid a crack.
At the very least, gotta give the kid some reps, even if you don’t bench Adams…same for some of the other young corners…no idea if they can play but we should start finding out…though Stephens played better yesterday than the prior 3 games
We currently lead the NFL in missed tackles. This speaks to a lack of focus on fundamentals in practice. This reflects very poorly on Wilks and pretty poorly on Glenn. For the seemingly thousandth year in a row, we are sloppy, dumb, and undisciplined. It's concerning that Glenn's alleged strong suits (discipline, accountability) have been major weaknesses so far. It's early, but I don't like how similar this feels to the Saleh hire so far.
The stats back up the eye test pretty well then I think we are also the only team with NO takeaways after 4 weeks And we are also last in the league in turnover differential at -7 I think the number is…so yeah, not only do we NOT take away the ball at all, we ALSO give it up a lot…we are averaging almost 2 turnovers a game The last nail in this coffin is also probably the penalties count…I’m guessing we must be among league leaders here as well
I went digging for stats and there must be some pretty piss poor defense going around the league right now because in a number of categories the Jets are essentially in the middle of the pack. They are dead last in turnovers and must be dead last in missed tackles, although I couldn't find the stats for that one. You'd think on the penalty front, with as bad as it feels, they would be last. However, they are #10 in penalties with 32, which I "guess" could be considered a step up. Jacksonville has 38. They are 9th with those 32 penalties equaling a total of 259 yards. The Gigantes own the worst spot on that front. My guess is the worst stat of all is probably one they don't count. Which of those penalties ensures their dumb asses aren't winning football games. I was reading through all these stats, feeling better about the team, until you look at the bastard win/loss column. ALWAYS seems that when they are just on the cusp of winning something they get a penalty or a turnover that shits on the entire enchilada. I think THAT is where the Jets lead the league. Back breaking dumbassery at just the right time, consistently, to cost the team and the fans the joy of a win. THIS is the hill Glenn has to climb. DUMBASSERY - A football team that consistently finds a way to shit on any situation at the exact wrong time in the exact dumbass way. I wonder if I could get that in Wikipedia along with a picture of Woody Johnson? Hmmm...GOALS!
