That's great, stinky! What kind of wood is that one? I like the multi-toned finish, it gives it more depth.

Thanks. It's red cedar, same as those fish (probably the same tree)... the outer layer of the "sap wood" is light (and softer) and the inner part is the red color.... I got a bunch more drying in the garage (can barely move in there) that I nabbed when I got word of a big tree cut down last year (cutting down cedars here is a no-no)... my little burro Nissan looked like a lowrider with the big logs in the back. Its hard to get straight sections free of voids to make the totems. The other ones were made from palm trees...

That makes it even cooler. It totally looks like a stain.

    Thanks guys...

The rough cut / main lines/ shape done with a chain saw.... then I use angle grinders (one with an abrasive wheel, and another with sanding discs) to clean up that chainsaw teeth marks.... my arthritis HATES me (one day I'll eventually have to go back to just drawing and painting.)

Takes awhile for wood to dry enough to finish. Several half-finished pieces (and a few I fuctup that wont) in the works. At least the cedar and palms are soft. I have some "Live Oak" that's hard as a rock. End result will be a smoother finish, but some dulled chainsaw chains in the process...

Man. You might stink but your art is not one bit stinky. Who knew we had an artist here among us. :)
