Fished for Bluefin yesterday. Ran to Little Italy, Seagirt Reef, Separation Zone. No Love. Was a good practice though. Saebassed at the Oil Wreck then Secret Mimi numbers. 90 fish, 30 keeps. Heard a small one was caught at Barnegat Ridge. Reports of Threshers and Bluefin at the Rocks....
Headed out Saturday 5/31 if the weather holds. 6/9 starts my first multi-day Tile trip. Waiting on my supply of 3lb weights to arrive via USPS. Will upgrade leader to 100lb from 80lb. Still using a 2 hook chicken rig though. Will be bringing my own squid as well as on my last trip, Frozen Salted squid pieces was all that was provided which frankly sucked. NWS calling for 5ft seas on Sat. I hope that's off by 24hrs.
Ran my lil boat offshore for the first time in awhile yesterday... 1 nice Mack (about 15lbs), kid I brought pulled the hook on a much nicer one.. ran further out an unfortunately just found big Cudas... small short period chop in the pm. I'm SORE today. Boat ran great though Was worn out + beers... fell asleep at halftime. Apparently I didnt miss much
Swapped 5/31 for 6/1. Still a bit bumpy but a lot drier as Monsoon seems to have come early in the NE. My 3lb lead supply arrived and I have a feeling my mailman was a bit pissed having to place 27lbs of lead into my mailbox.
yeah, rain switched turned on here as well... past few nights it has poured its ass off. Thankfully AFTER I came home from fishing.
Fuggars just made the BluefinTuna Regs to one fish less than 47”. why run all over the Ocean for one fish? Next trip for Tiles. Hunt the Bluefin if we come across them. Maybe deep drop for Swords. Club Bluefin Open is Fucked!
Jinx! NWS a bit better. 3-6' seas, 10-20kt W winds. Doing Sea Bass so not too far out. Maybe far side of the mudhole or a wreck closer in. Def not a canyon run. 6/12 for Tiles. Maybe a hungry gator bluefish will make the trip interesting.
I almost forgot, having a new custom tile rod made. Should be finished next week. 7ft blade from a 80-120lb Rain Shadow tuna blank. Roller guide first and swivel tip. 14" foregrip. Got a Winthrop adjustable #2 butt for here and a T-10X adjustable for Florida trips. Planning on pairing with a Daiwa Seaborg 800MJ 40lb braid.
Damn Cman that's some equipment! I should receive my Wolfpack Ahi lures today complete with the silicone tails. Can be used with the tails or ballyhoo. Have been using their Tungsten Head lures on split bill ballyhoo 3.5oz. Don't know why but those sucker produce! Must be the diamond eyes. My buddy handed them to me last year to try. Caught the 3 biggest Bluefin Tuna on them.
Trip yesterday was. challenging because of short period 4ft. Seas. I was reminded why I should avoid weekend headboats. Boat was railed at 5am. For a 7am departure. Got there at 5 05 and barely found 2 spots open. Of course they were midship aka: Tangletown. Lost perhaps 1hr fishing time due to the current and a nearby rookie. Bite kicked in around 12pm. It was drop-n-reel the rest of the trip so Wifey and I limited out plus on black sea bass and a few Ling. Oddly enough, no dogfish. Strange....
Tough one and you brought the wife! Don't want the doggies. I snuck out today for Seabass and Fluke. Had 6 keepers 4 of them the biggest Sea Bass I ever caught! 2 Blackfish and a big Ling. Fished Seagirt Reef, Klondike, and Axel Carlson. Big Sea Bass caught at the Axel.
Cleaned my catch from yesterday. I would say 70% of the catch were females loaded with roe. Best guess is that its spawn for Sea Bass at the moment. Caught some big fish yesterday and just missed the money fish with a big knothead Sea Bass. I'll be doing my inshore stuff during the week for the rest of the year now as yesterday frankly sucked. What surprised me the most besides the absence of Doggies was the color of the water. It wasn't quite Florida Cobalt but it was the lightest blue I've seen since Sandy hit years ago.
I don't have patience for that shit.... Barely want to fish on the weekends on my own boat What's the limit for you guys? I remember last year jigging up nice green heads that wouldve been studs in FL, but we had to throw up back because they were 16-16.5"
