I'm old, been a jets fan since the Titans, and have seen the glory and the pits. For the first time, in a long time, the team has the potential for a terrific OL, the second most important component. In fact, i have seen teams with poor QB succeed with a great OL. Maybe Fields will be terrible, maybe adequate, maybe great. Maybe the line needs many games to jell. Maybe they finish with a poor record, meaning a good pick in a QB rich draft in 2026. The new front office certainly realizes they have big holes. pick 1 gives me confidence they probably know what they are doing. i expect pass catching picks in round 2 or 3. defensive needs in any round. Off season pickups and trades for both offense and defense. it is a very rare event that a team lets a talented OL man escape. Not so with catchers or defense line personnel. So, I am optimistic about the talent evaluation acumen of the staff and their ability to fill needs. Optimism only goes so far. I am looking forward to tonight's picks and hoping I won't be disappointed. We also need to see how they coach and scheme. Although this is quite an unknown, its hard to see the coaching and scheming ability to not be better than the past umpteen years. It remains to be seen, but i am highly optimistic that both the on field and off field personnel will succeed,
im optimistic for the first time in a long time too. i think they have a pretty solid defense, a young and talented o line and hopefully the ability to control the game and not ask the qb to do too much. and for the first time since pennington there is a guy who is likeable as the qb. there is a guy who is likeable as the hc and a team that doesnt have a dark cloud over it for one reason or another. no clown show, no guys unable to control their mouths and having to respond. none of that, nothing flashy just smart moves to make the team better. heres to hoping it goes well this year and beyond.
I’m old too. Been through this way too many times. I know better and so should you, old timer! I will be optimistic when we are holding up the Lombardi trophy, and even then I’ll need 2 months afterwards just to be sure that someone doesn’t come try and take it away.
The new regime certainly sounds like they know what they want. Seem confident. Gives me hope. Now we need to see how it plays out over the next 1-2 years and whether they stay true to form.
I've seen it before. Reminds me of when they drafted D'Brick & Mangold. Build it from the inside-out, doing it the right way blah blah blah I've heard it before. They're playing it safe I get it. Now I'm reading they could take WRs etc. in day 2 but they have the QBs currently on their roster to me that's a major bummer. I'd like to see them swing for the fences and make a pick that could alter their franchise forever. We need a QB. If it works it works if it doesn't it doesn't. Jets history is littered with second round busts so I'm not afraid. Go for it!!! I'd like to see them change the script for a change. But the Jets do things their way it is what it is.
Being Optimistic after repeat failure since 1969 and Woody still being the owner and Brick Lurking in is called dellusion. Right now droppy boy Alan Lazard is our #2 receiver, and Jeremy Ruckert is our #1 tightend for god sakes and our defense sucks ass. Our offense looks like they will suck ass to. How can you be optimistic? Because we got another 1st time head coach and 1st time gm? How many times have we seen this script?
Firstly, we went to 2 championship games after 1969 and had a chance with Fitz. So hopelessness is only 15 years old. Optimistic because OL, which to me is linchpin, seems poised to be steady for years to come. Optimistic because luck is due to change. Optimistic because lots of young talent on team. Optimistic because I think fields will be positive surprise. Optimistic cause it's far healthier for your mental outlook. So when you get to my age, and I'm almost closer to 100 than 70, and that's scary, you better have optimism. But optimism isn't certainty. The Jets could severely dissapoint me by taking a QB tonight instead of another position. None of them excite me, and I don't know who the poster above thinks is worth a swing at the fences. I thought that was fields. He has tons of potential.
It’s no fun to be pessimistic after a regime change with what seems to be two good candidates at GM & HC and not a lot of unnecessary offseason fireworks in regards to bad offseason signings and decisions.
Definitely not optimistic as I have had to many Charlie Brown trying to kick the football from Lucy moments with this team. The Jets don't deserve the benefit of the doubt. I will start to become optimistic when they start proving it by winning games in the regular season.
Ah but if they start to win games then you are a realistic, no longer an optimist. It's hoping they become good that's optimism.
Yeah…it’s hard for me to get optimistic for so many damn reasons, starting with Woody. I wasn’t thrilled about going with rookies at both GM and HC yet again, nor was I thrilled that the rookie HC was yet again a defensive guy. Then of course, I’m not too optimistic about Fields…I just don’t think he’s a very good QB and I doubt our ability to coach him up and get all that untapped potential. Then I look at the roster and see we do have holes in a bunch of places, but right now we have GW and a bunch of scrubs at all other pass catching positions. So it’s not going to be easy for Fields to shine. Then of course, there’s the overwhelming Jets history of bad drafting, bad coaching, etc. Remember, Mougey and AC are new but the scouts are the same as far as we know. So there are PLENTY of reasons to be more pessimistic than optimistic. That being said, I like AG’s demeanor, I like the OL pick last night, I hope we can nail the rest of this draft, and we’ll go from there. I don’t think Woody or the Jets have earned the benefit of the doubt…not by a long shot. But what can we do other than watch and hope? I am generally a glass half full kind of view on this team, and I hope that at least for next year, we can be respectable and then maybe go get a stud QB in next year’s draft if Fields doesn’t show he can do anything.
Optomistic and Jets fan is never something that should be in the same sentence. As usual I will expect the worst which is usually what happens and hope for the best. While NOT optomistic I am excited to see what Fields will bring to the team and hoping the Oline will be solid giving our running game a big boost as well as Fields time to pass.
I'm usually pulling my jets brethren out of the basement of negativity, so I hate to rain on the post-first round parade, but its all a waste of time until there's a franchise qb, and that's for every franchise.
This all may be true, but I still may not be interested. I was excited for the draft last night, like usual, but I was so bored. I may feel the same about watching games: boring.
I would take the 2 sanchez seasons, and he was a far cry from franchise. Joe kapp,Doug Williams, frank Ryan amongst others
They're on the right track, I am optimistic as well. However, I understand a portion of the fanbase that won't care about the moves the team makes and hyping them up until the results follow. I think Glenn understands this as well.
Sorry, our over under is 5.5. What does optimistic mean - that we get 7 wins ????? You can bank on the following: 1. We will not make the playoffs. 2. We will not be sooooo bad that we will get a shot at drafting a QB at the top of the draft. I have said many times - we suck until we dont. I am still waiting.
