Signed some guy from the Bears that is so irrelevant no one reported it until it was on the transaction wire. He graded out as the 2nd worst defense of 7 Bears DL
Rich Cimini @RichCimini The #Jets signed former Bears DT Byron Cowart, per the league transaction wire. This guy doesn't seem to stick around long. He's been on six other teams since being drafted in '19.
Yeah, looks like bigger spendings are over for now, and Mooge is signing bunch of young scrubs to compete for a roster spot for minimum $. This TE they got is converted from WR converted from QB. Looks like they got some pathetic scrub from the Bengals too named Jay something, doesn't really matter. I think the idea at least for some of the spots is to get bunch of athletic young guys with some promise and have them compete and someone will emerge. Might not be a bad thing to incorporate into overall strategy.
Coaching. I think we got better in the coaching department. I think the scheme will be beneficial to the players, unlike the last regime. I think the staff and owner were the reason for last seasons failures. It really is that simple. There is still time to fill in the pieces, with plenty of avenues to upgrade the team. We've lost an over the hill QB that wasn't worth the contract. We lost a WR that was only here because of his buddy, who never really cared to be here. We lost an average player in Thomas on the DL. We lost an edge who barely played for the team and didn't really want to be here either. Oh, a bottom tier CB. Oh, well. It's not the end of the world.
We haven't lost much. We upgraded QB, which is a big deal. Granted I am not sure if it will be a small upgrade and similar to what we had or a bigger one, if Fields improves, but I think at worse we are similar to where we were and at best will get a solid upgrade. WR - definitely lost, probably a bigger loss then anywhere else. Adams played well for us. He had no chance of coming back though anyway. CB we also lost as JD Reed was better last year than Stephens will be this year. Safety we improved. Ad far as other positions, we didn't sign any good players, but I didn't think we lost any good players. DL - whoever left was awful last year, including Thomas and Reddick. Moses wasn't that bad, but he is old and frankly I think the dude we got from Pitts who played 10 snaps in NE last year can provide similar production. Plus we have some interior depth with Myers. Overall, it's not that bad and again there offseason is not over. There is a draft, and there is more free agency when teams start releasing some good player. There will be several more waives of free agency. A lot of time left.
It can be said that Saleh was the worst coach we've ever had in recent memory. In terms of coaching, worse than Gase. He was a better motivator and leader than Gase, which says nothing.
We weren’t going to be able to spend a ton this year given the cap space & the looming 2022 class extensions. I’m glad he’s not blowing a ton of money right now.
Saleh was much better than Gase, which is why Saleh is immediately back to being a DC, whereas Gase has been out of the league since 2021.
According to this guy, at least one of Rodgers’ teammates agrees with you. https://youtube.com/shorts/Yz2nlP1hslc?si=c2H3d5_0_1yvjQf5
I watched someone highlights on Smartt. IMO He s already an upgrade as number 2 TE for us with a great catching radius and with WR qualities. Young with potential. I would argue that with the exception of Reed we are in a better place. Adam was an inevitable loss no matter what. The money is tight. We need to make the draft count for a change.
Seeing what's happening is easy but only someone very special can see what's not happening. Strange I'm writing this while watching David Blaine on Kimmel.
Well its only March still, but no, we haven’t gotten better Losing Reed is a big deal…he is quietly a top corner…we downgraded there and I would also have loved to keep Echols…he made plays despite not getting a ton of playing time Our DL has lost bodies…granted no one who made much of an impact, but we are still going to need bodies…I don’t expect JJ to be what he was before his Achilles…that’s a rough injury for a guy who depends on get off WR definitely is worse…we have exactly ONE guy who is a legit player. That’s it… Huge hole TE is worse…Conklin wasn’t a world beater but he was average…we have Ruckert and this new kid now who had like 17 catches. OK….pretty much means we need to draft a TE…maybe that Penn State kid but I am way wary of drafting a TE in the top ten…Bowers notwithstanding Would have liked to keep Moses and let him compete with a rookie for RT…so OL is still a big questionmark. And of course we get to QB…I’m hoping Fields can develop, but there is no way he is better than Rodgers. No way. I get dumping Rodgers when you have a new rookie HC because it just wouldn’t really work, but we are HOPING that Fields can develop, we are HOPING that what he showed over 6 games last year can be built upon, but he hasn’t done it yet and the odds are not great. Can he hold the fort? Yeah…most likely…he’ll get some big runs and make it fun to watch. Can he win us 5 games like last year…eeesshhh…I guess so….maybe? I wouldn’t be shocked if he falls short of that, but I wouldn’t be shocked if we win maybe 6-7 games if a lot goes well…but I don’t see him leading us to the playoffs. So overall…let’s see if we can find a RT, TE, WR, DT in the draft…we still have huge needs at those spots. Probably looking at yet another losing year with yet another rookie DC as HC… We’ve all seen this movie before…lots of great talk…let’s see if Glenn can deliver
Absolutely wild to me that people can convince themselves sight unseen that a dude who has been mostly bad his whole career is an upgrade from almost 4K yards, 28 TDs, 11 INTs because he’s younger and can use his legs.
This is good perspective. And it's not a great free agent class. Would still like to see some help at WR and OT at least, which may well be coming still, prior to the draft. I'm trying to reserve judgment until I see the product in action as the season goes on. Knee-jerk reaction-wise, there have been some intriguing, reasonable signings and others a bit more head-scratching or underwhelming. But we have no idea how this coaching staff will operate so I'm keeping an open mind to see if some of these guys are scheme fits who they can get the best out of. On another note, I've been assuming Josh Myers was signed to be a reserve given the contract and performance, but wonder if there's some chance they view him as a starter and may kick AVT out to RT and Tippman to RG.
jeez dude you are going to have a fucking heart attack getting upset about practice squad level acquisitions. the roster can have up to 90 people on it for training camp. they are going to fill it up with many players, some of which won’t grade out well on whatever opinion site you are taking as your bible
