You nailed it with the Marcus Coleman comp. As much as I love CB Coleman, I always felt Free Safety Coleman was better.
I I don’t know what the status is with Echols but I would love to have kept him…late round pick who played well when they put him in there and seemed to come up with a bunch of picks so he has a nose for the ball
Not sure about the money either but in his defense the Ravens struggled mightily in secondary defense first half of the season and then readjusted and played better. Ravens gave up a lot of rec yards early in the season. He s an athletic player and can play a lot of positions.
I don’t get the Echols love. Outside of having a bit of a knack for being around the ball, I’m not impressed with his ability to cover. I’ve liked more what I’ve seen from Stiggers in his small samples.
Definite downgrade from DJ Reed, but I don't think he'll be directly replacing him. It seems like more of a depth move. I think the Jets have more to do at CB.
Looks like he has no ball awareness, gives up little separation but focuses on break-up at the point of catch, which is quite hard to do. Not sure if ball tracking is something that is easy to learn, but Glenn seems to believe he can coach him to do so. Still, we take a gamble, and when you do that the contract should reflect that. When you take a chance on someone, you spend a lot less than someone who realized his potential already. Instead we are paying him as if he already realized his potential when he didn't and may never do. He should have come on a much cheaper deal and save us money for other moves.
I know CBs are paid to cover, but I think part of his appeal over Echols is his ability to tackle. I think Echols is like 180 lbs and RBs could bowl him over. Stephens is 216 lbs.
Echols has hit like a truck every time he’s been in the game. I liked him a lot in limited playing time. I think it was @BrowningNagle that pointed it out late in the year during a home game when Sauce sprained his pussy and came out of the game.
Yea I distinctly remember Echols being a good tackler. Sometimes whiffed but that's why he's your depth piece with CB2 capability. And for probably half the price tag of the guy we signed who is worse than him.
Echols was all right, but I think Glenn likes the size of Stephens, who just as fast and athletic as Echols but much bigger. Now, I do think we grossly overpaid for Stephens, but I would prefer Stephens to Echols. To me though I am looking at a guy like Myers, who plays a different position, but there are some similarities as he also was not a good starter for several years for a good team, he is young, durable. And we got him for 3.5 mil. Stephens went for 36 mil. A wild disparity.
Only two years are guaranteed but there must be something we are missing and I cannot figure it out. It seems AG and Glenn are in love with this guy. Let's hope they are right, but hard to see at this point.
Lifelong Jets fan but I live near Bmore so I saw nearly every Ravens game. Going into the off-season, I felt like CB was their biggest need BECAUSE OF STEPHENS! This guy is atrocious. There's talks of him being moved to Safety. Last year he was about as good as a safety cone. He was a total liability all season. What are we doing?
