I find any and all comparisons to Z Wilson for a QB completely irrelevant to anything the Jets are trying to do moving forward. Words like, Better, much better or significantly better than Zach is not a criteria for our next QB. We need to steer away from bringing his name up in this context.

Let's not rewrite history. Zach was rated highly as a general consensus. Here are actual rankings by ESPN:
    Ward: 90
    https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft/bestavailable

    Zach: 93
    https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2021/...1-nfl-draft-rankings-top-prospects-scouts-inc

Sure, he didn't work out, but the fact is, he was a highly rated prospect who busted. That does not mean Cam/Dart/Sanders who are lower rated will also bust, but I personally would punt on a QB in this draft as it does seem pretty weak. I would not trade up for Cam and Sanders and would not spend #7 overall for Dart. I guess if Cam or Sanders are there at 7, we would have to consider, but still... I would prefer to improve other areas of the roster with 7th overall.

This means nothing. It certainly doesn't mean either will be good or bad. It's just media drivel.

The consensus was that they were all wrong about Zach Wilson... He never should've been a consideration as a first round talent. Let alone hyped the way he was. I'll never take "espn" as a reliable scouting source. Ever.
There are only a few that I actually respect. They sure AF ain't one of mine.

It doesn’t make your analysis any less retarded dude. He was a trash prospect who beat up on Texas State and UTSA in a weird pandemic year. I can’t believe it’s fucking STILL being defended.

Again, these are rankings AFTER Zach’s Senior year. Please find me one article having Zach in the conversation of the NFL draft prior to his senior year. I knew who Cam Ward was going into this past year. I knew he was a top prospect and the concensus was he’s be in the mix for the top QB spot as long as he balled out. Zach was a no one that was in jeopardy of being benched going into his final season. He was not a top NFL prospect, he was a one hit wonder.

well to be fair Cam Ward had a zillion college seasons to become a top prospect.

Zach Wilson was 21 when the Jets drafted him. When Ward was 21 he was a questionable transfer out of something called Incarnate Word (Div 2)

I'll bet BYU could have beaten Incarnate as part of their Covid season; surely they couldn't have been as good as Coastal Carolina. Or could they?

In retrospect we can analyze - sure. But at the time the consensus was he was a top prospect. There was enough on film for pretty much everyone to declare that. He was a top prospect who busted.

ESPN was an example. This was a consensus at the time among pretty much everyone. I do agree it means nothing, just don't want to rewrite history.

Stop being obtuse, nothing is "defended". What analysis are you talking about, I just said Zach was a highly rated prospect who busted. This is not a controversial statement. You saying this is a "defense" of Zach, is what's retarded. Cam to me is lesser rated prospect, which does not mean he will bust or succeed, but I would not trade up for him, in case you missed a bigger point here.

ESPN does not deal in "consensus" - I don't know of any organization that compiles ratings from a multitude of sources to develop a true consensus. I do know that claiming such a thing is any easy crutch to use without citation in an attempt to defend one's own bad predictions.

What was seen on film is murky enough for anyone so inclined to ignore the names on the defenders' helmets, jerseys and scoreboard. Even Joe Douglas was guilty of that.

Well at least I found a reputable publication that rated both of these players in question. Before opening your mouth to ask for more, you do some work yourself and find another reputable publication that did not have Zach rated as top prospect and has Cam as such. After that I can show you many others that had him rated high pre draft if you want. Again, no one is debating that he busted or that JD fucked up. But he was highly rated at the time.

I saw it and also saw something you apparently missed - when you look beyond the stats the capsule paragraph for both players were written by the same guy. That's a helluva "consensus" and maybe a word you should drop from your repertoire.

It was an example, but there are many others. Here is one more reputable publication from NFL com:
    https://www.nfl.com/prospects/cam-ward/32005741-5206-5305-364b-76c1f988f45e
    https://www.nfl.com/prospects/zach-wilson/32005749-4c82-7119-d27e-724ec33f130b

Also has Zach rated higher than Cam. Again, does not mean Cam will bust like Zach, but I would not trade up for him. If he is there at 7 though, I would consider, but it is unlikely he will be there. But to trade up and give up likely another 1st and then some, hard pass for me.

But you are not at all contributing to the conversation, which was about comparing Cam and Zach as a prospect. Answer the question. Which reputable publications didn't have him as a good prospect and have Cam as one?

That's my worry... I don't see how you let a top 10 QB pick "ride the pine." You know the average Jets fan, the minute "whomever" threw a pick 6 that kid would be starting. Thwarting any learning period.

The more I think about it the more I am pulled to bringing in Fields this year with him being backed up by Tyrod and Travis. Let Fields see if he can jump start his career in an organization that excels at bringing in veteran QB's. The Jets simply do not draft well at the QB position and they're even worse at bringing them along. Fields, I think, could make the team at least entertaining while they try to put this mess back together.....again. That frees up the 7th pick to bring in an immediate impact player.

Maybe/maybe not Fields "puts it together." If he does, he's not even in his prime and the Jets can begin that re-build. If he shits the bed, he'll buy the team the 2025 season to fill roster holes and focus on a QB in the 2026 draft.

Zach Wilson was trash. He was just another, in a long long line of players, that put on a "show" at the combine and all the NFL numb nuts go gaga and flush the game tape down the shitter. The GAME TAPE almost never lies. I'll never understand this phenomenon. Especially when there is so much money involved. Regardless, his ascent was THE prime example of what happens when a position group is horrible in any given draft. The small handful of mediocre to barely above average talent gets blown up out of proportion and drafted a lot higher than would normally be the case. To be quite frank, Zach Wilson probably shouldn't have even been drafted. Not in the top three rounds anyway. Ce la vie. I just hope the team LEARNS a lesson.

You are describing this QB draft though even more than 2021. The position group is not great. And Cam, on top of actual tape evaluation, also does not have great height. He is not even 6-2, only 6-1.5. Very few QBs under 6-2 were successful. Not saying this means he will fail, but another point to consider, which is not in his favor. With all that said, it will be tough to pass on him if he is there at 7, but doesn't make sense to give the farm to move up for him either.

The draft that year with Zach Wilson was unlike any other. You simply can’t compare prospects from that draft to this one.

They didn’t have a combine, they had to do zoom interviews, and most players had shortened seasons

I agree with the approach of not locking in some long term crappy starter like Darnold, Carr, etc. Paying $30+ mil for bad qb play is stupid. Draft a guy, but not this year, the class stinks. Bridge for this year and go all in on drafting next year. Tyrod is a fine bridge to me, but if you want to bring in fields that’s fine too.

I am also warming to the idea of bringing in Fields, not really because I think he’s a good QB (sorry, I just don’t), and not because I think he has a very good chance of making the leap (I think it’s possible but I wouldn’t bet my team on it), but more so because I just don’t see any really good options out there.

I don’t want to reach for a mediocre QB prospect in this draft, and I definitely would NOT trade up for any of them, and I don’t want to spend any trade capital on guys like Cousins (hard pass) or Carr, or the tier below those guys like Winston, Brissett, etc. So I just don’t see any good options and at least Fields is young, can run, and has maybe a little bit of potential to provide some upside.

Kind of the best of a lot of bad options, assuming we could sign him for some reasonable amount…if the lack of options drives his price way up, then I’m out on Fields too…
