Mooge official!!! https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1883264293916831791 Congratulations Josina Anderson!
Good summary by Dick Chimney: https://x.com/RichCimini/status/1883267930005065793 "Thoughts on the Darren Mougey hiring by the #Jets: Comes with the Sean Payton stamp of approval -- and that means something to Aaron Glenn. No previous GM experience. A football/scout guy, not a contract/cap guy. No. 1 job is to find Glenn a long-term solution at QB. Failing that, he will end up like his predecessors. Overall, I've heard good things about Mougey's ability as an evaluator. Will that make him a good GM? Hard to say. He never had final say in Denver, so it's all a projection. All we can do is point out his team's track record. Denver has drafted well since 2021 (Patrick Surtain), picking several players that had key roles on this year's Wild-Card team. Looks like they have a keeper in QB Bo Nix. Before Nix, and before Payton, Denver struggled to find a QB in the post-Peyton Manning era. There were bad draft picks (Paxton Lynch, Drew Lock), bad trades (Joe Flacco, Russell Wilson) and a bad FA signing (Case Keenum). Result: An 8-year playoff drought. Mougey has worked for only 1 organization (not always a great thing), but he's been exposed to a lot of different situations -- 6 HCs, 3 different ownership groups and 2 GMs. He has spent his entire life in the West. New York isn't for everyone. He'd better pack some thick skin." These some more of my own thoughts: good drafting in 2021 and beyond also coincides with him becoming Director of Player Personnel and actually a voice in Denver FO. I suspect he played some good role in 2021 draft, since he got promotes to AGM a year after. Also at 39 years of age, 3d youngest GM in the NFL. Also, this speaks very well of Glenn. Did not accept former Colleague, did not accept his personal friend even though he did give him a chance, but ultimately went with the guy he knows least, but recommended and with the best credentials.
More from Dick: "During the vetting and interview process, the Jets were able to glean some intel on Mougey from Rick Spielman (33rd Team), the former Vikings GM whose right-hand man in Minnesota is now the Broncos GM, George Paton." Say what you will about the process, etc, but knowing Woody's philosophy (coach is key and it has to be defensive coach), 33d team, and Spielman in particular, came through. This was probably the best outcome with someone like Woody in charge. Let's hope he stumbled into something good this time...

I have to disagree with one of the conclusions Cimini has reached here - If Mougey is light in salary cap and contracts the first priority should be to get a good guy in who is an expert at those things; the Jets are in rough shape there. Only after a plan to deal with that is formulated should the quarterback situation be addressed. If that plan includes Mougey being Scroogey for a year and banking some cash and cap I'm fine with that, waiting a year to get the right QB without digging a deeper financial hole might be the way to go. Invest in those few players who can be around for a while as the cornerstones of the future. What's another 5 - 12 season if it is clearly setting up a better future?
They can use 1) tanny who started as a cap guru under BillP, 2) can call his contacts for advice,,, form what I read he seems to be a assute...I uess we'llsee. But like LA said above, I hope they work well together and win games....dare I say p;ayoffs...LOL.
I don’t really understand why any fucking team would hire a guy that came up as a “cap guy.” Every team should have the capability to hire a nerd, lock them in a room, give them $500K a year, a director title and walk out with a decent cap situation. Yet 2/4 of the past Jets GM’s have been “cap guys” first and foremost. It’s unbelievable.
Just want to point out you’ve sung that same song over many hires and they’ve all sucked. But I’m sure THIS time is different
4 all pros. One franchise QB. One top tier CB on top of the all pro CB they drafted. Not much to complain about.
So here is a question, exactly and specifically what are the duties and responsibilities of the general manager... go
Now that it is official, I wish him good luck. His fate and Glenn's fate will depend on the QB they will pick after Rodgers. Good luck to both.
1 nerd ? Hire 4 freaking cpas and look them in the basement and figure it the fuck out . 1 for each phase and 1 to put it all together We need some money ball BS the next couple years
