Even if he is not your first choice, would you be happy if Rex Ryan was named the next head coach of the New York Jets? I want to quantify his support for the role.
Holy fuck, NO! That asshole's mouth can't cash the checks his lips write. Been out of the league, what, a decade? No thanks. HARD PASS on that one. If Rex Ryan is re-hired as head coach of the Jets my fandom will end right then and there. Hell, I'll go jump on the Cleveland bandwagon where there's ineptitude but not TOTAL "fuckery."
Let's not get back with our ex. The rah rah stuff sounds good, but then there's the realities of things like game management, schematics and building a staff in 2025. Plus, he's been on TV the last 8-9 years. No recent NFL coaching experience
Is there an option for "hell no"? If they feel like they need to hire Rex, hire him to work with the guys who do the One Jets Drive web series. Let him be the hype man for the franchise, which is the only benefit you'd get out of him if you hired him to be the HC, since he wasn't all that good at that the last time around either.
Even though I love Rex Ryan I voted no. They gotta try to do better. That said though I'd rather have Rex Ryan than Todd Bowles or Adam Gase for sure out of recent failed attempts to do better. I still feel like Saleh could have clicked and may well if he ever gets a 2nd chance somewhere but was hamstrung by quarterback issues. Try to do better.
Rex is a clown. We are a clown organization. It’s honestly a perfect fit. The guy loves the team, loves the city, and so far he’s the onpy coach we’ve ever had that can win games with a shitty QB, and we are gonna be real shitty at QB unless we get lucky and draft a real stud in 2026 because there aren’t any in this upcoming draft. Nothing about the massive cap purge we're about to go through is going to be fun, and nothing about this organization is attractive to top candidates. Rex is at least entertaining. I don’t love him, but honestly it’s him or Ron Rivera that’s gonna end up here.
Yes. The guy was able to get one game from the Super Bowl twice with the worst starting QB in the league. And he wants to coach here; which is more than I can say for most of the hiring pool. With the possible exceptions of Gruden and Carroll, Rex is the candidate who is most likely to be able to immediately stop the bleeding. On top of that, and unlike the media and most of the fanbase, I enjoy that he's interesting. I like that he is blunt and uses bravado. I think it makes his players loyal and attracts potential free agents.
Meanwhile, the Bears wanted Mike McCarthy over Pete Carroll! Fucking crazy and asinine. They're so lucky that Jerry blocked their interview request and now Pete is interviewing for the job tomorrow. They honestly don't deserve a coach as great as Carroll when they pull dumb shit like that, but now they're going to most likely land him as I predicted because he and Caleb Williams have a great relationship. Carroll would have the Jets in the playoffs in 2 years. Will never happen because this franchise is rotten to the core and dumb as Brick(s). At this point I'll settle for Vrabel or Flores as HC. It's going to be an interesting couple of days/weeks ahead.
Rex has swag and I believe he would get our D to be top 10 for sure but just like last time he held the rains we need to score points to be able to win. Just like last time we need a qb just like last time not many OCs are dying to coach this offence.
No. Realistically, what would his role be? To manage and motivate the team, to have final say on the game plan and to make in game adjustments. Plus managing the clock and timeouts. What he’ll most likely do is motivate the shit out of the team and fixate on the D. How up to date is he on modern offenses and therefore how modernized is his conception of the defense? Has he magically become a better game and personnel manager? What is his offensive philosophy? Still ground and pound? It’s 2025. if he’s there to just motivate, get the most out of his guys, and coordinate the coordinators and if those coordinators are capable of getting their squads ready and developing game and in-game strategies, then sure, fine I’m ok with him being coach. If we were to re-hire someone I’d rather it be the Mangenius.
Why is it that NO TEAM has hired Rex Ryan since the Bills almost a decade ago? Answer: Who needs all the shit Rex will bring with him. He's already shooting off his mouth about Rodgers and what he would do and he doesn't even have the job. I can't believe people actually want The Circus to return.
You know your argument is weak when the biggest selling point that the national talking sports heads are using is that Rex "did it before here and knows this market and knows this franchise and has experience with all of these things, blobbity, blah, blah." Btw, Greenberg, Benigno and Francesa are absolutely clueless dying on this sword. They fail to mention that Rex Ryan never had a winning season over his final 6 seasons as a HC. That's downright awful. They also don't like to point out that he's been out of the league for nearly a decade and the game has changed considerably. Almost impossible to come back as a HC after a decade gone, especially a coach who wasn't even winning. He hasn't been courted by even one other team in the league for many years. Rex is a cartoon media blowhard who knows absolutely nothing about modern football. The Jets will be even more of a caricature sideshow ( and that's putting it mildly) if they ever did hire him. I can't believe that this is actually getting any real attention unless its a smoke screen while they already have their real choices lined up. The Jets aren't smart enough to do that though.
Those first 2 years, yeah, they caught some fire in the playoffs… but they weren’t that great during the season . This is a no.
