This seems to come up every year, but now with Peyton going to the Super Bowl, I've already seen quite a few "I hope Manning loses, he should have been a Jet" and "Manning snubbed the Jets" quotes... I had always thought that Manning wanted to be a Jet, but that Parcells wouldn't give any indication that he'd draft him with the #1 pick, so he/Archie thought the best plan was to stay in school. Anyone know the real deal?
Sorry it was the other way around Peyton DID NOT want to play for us so he stood in school a xtra year
According to this article in the Sporting News, which was written at the time (April 7, 1997), the story about Parcells being a tough guy with Archie Manning and refusing to guarantee that Manning would be drafted to be the Jets starter is the truth: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1208/is_n14_v221/ai_19296068 Certainly is a black mark against Parcells, I would say.
After all Archie did to get Eli to New York, I find it hard to believe that Peyton stayed in school to avoid going there.
Which is what I believe. The Media ran with that BS story and even if it were true, it would be a case of another Manning trying to dictate the Draft! Does that make it any Better??? I don't think so. True or Not true either way he told JETS fans Fk U! Sorry, I'm not the biggest Media fan and I tend to take it with a Grain of salt... Even if it had a Hint of tuth he still fked us over.
If it's true then how is he saying FU to Jets fans? Ah well, Manning haters will always be Manning haters. But I'm still pulling for the AFC.
