It was discovered during his concussion protocol testing that Mike Reilly has a heart condition that will require surgery. He'll be out indefinitely, which translates to several months. https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/42475547/new-york-islanders-d-mike-reilly-heart-procedure
Islanders have blown third period leads in four of their last five games. Patrick Roy's reaction to this? "We need to continue to do exactly what we've been doing." There's a joke about the definition of insanity that seems particularly apropos in this circumstance.
I think he wants to blow up like a suicide bomber but he’s playing it as cool as he can right now because it’s too early in season. If he starts to detonate he will lose the team very quickly.
Coming soon. Attendance at UBS. This team is not only bad but boring. I am rooting for losses now to get Lou fired.
The problem with that strategy is that at this rate the team could be beyond any reasonable playoff hopes by New Year's Day. And as @GREG alluded to above, by that time they might be drawing fewer than 10,000 people a game. In my view Ledecky and Malkin are letting Lamoriello run the team into the ground. Roy is at best an unhelpful innocent bystander, and at worst an enabler of the destruction.
Lou already ran the team into the ground; we’re now simply seeing the inevitable results of his decisions. the best thing for the organization is that there is no prolonged hope of this being a playoff team this season so they do what should have been done last year — start trading off players with any value for assets and cap relief and start the rebuild. Other than Sorokin, all vets should be on the trading block. If Brock Nelson, Palmieri and Pageau are still on the team after the trade deadline than we know Lou is still in charge and will be for the foreseeable future.
The latest meltdown. Have 4-2 lead after two periods in Washington. Lose 5-4 in OT. This POS team sucks. Fuck the owners, fuck Lou, blow this thing up and rebuild.
