people thought the same of Daboll... that he'd turn Danny into Josh Allen LIte.

    derrrrp

as I often say... its more the innate quality of the QB than the OC.
Sam Darnold is maxing out with great offensive line and WR/TE/RB weapons and D. but he's still a middling QB by QBR.

Yeah but that’s a bad example for your point because they also have a really good offensive coach.

They don’t have a great offensive line either - what? He’s been sacked the third most in the league and they have a middle of the pack running game. Their all world left tackle is also on IR. What metric says it’s a great offensive line?

This is the hardest thing to find in someone who has never been the top guy before. A leader of men. I think Mike Tomlin is absolutely the TOP example in the NFL right now. As someone mentioned, not all that spectacular of a coordinator but a tremendous leader of men. Another one would be John Harbaugh. Personally I would take Mike Westhoff over Harbaugh as a special teams coordinator but the "proof is in the pudding" as to how effective Harbaugh has been as the top guy. THAT's what this team needs to find. They NEED to find a leader! I have no doubt the Tannenbaum lead team can find coordinators but that's not their job. They need to find a leader and I have my doubts.

I have seen lists of candidates that the Jets or 33rd team have scheduled to interview. I am not hearing or seeing Ben Johnson’s name. Have the Jets contacted him to gage his interest? If not, why not. He would be a first time coach but so are others on the “list”. If he has told the Jets he is not interested, so be it and understandable. If he has not been contacted, they can shove this search up their ass.

Take it for what its worth, but Russini tweeted out earlier today that the Jets are not expected to put in a request to interview him.

    Bust incoming.

Honestly I don't want him. Jets are such a mess they need someone who was a HC before. He has a very good situation in Detroit and it will be the total opposite here.

I don't want him either. So far, the only decent decision that Woody has made in the past several years is not requesting an interview with Johnson.

Thanks for the update. That sucks. I have been rooting for this shit show since 70 and would love to sit him down and talk through it. Not even reaching out is a complete downer.

No problem. :) The telling thing today was that the Jets didn't request to interview him. That's what I was looking for, as I take everything reported by The Athletic with several dump trucks full of salt.

He let it be known he is not interested, that's at least part of the reason why the Jets didn't request. I mean why request for someone who said he is not going to take the job? For him it looks like he needs a good young QB as a requirement, and it might be down to Chicago and NE. I am hoping he will pick Chicago, but you never know... I do think Ben is legit and would hate to see him in NE.

They're not reaching out because Johnson has made it known that the Jets job doesn't interest him.

I'm actually rooting for him to get the New England job. Two reasons, the first being that it would free up the only coach I think is even worth considering in this cycle (Vrabel, even though I'm not 100% sold on him) to take this job. And, second, it would be a huge motivating factor for Vrabel to stick it to the Pats after being passed over not once but twice for that job, which might increase his interest in wanting to come here.

In all the articles and podcasts I have seen/heard, never heard a report that he told the Jets he was not interested.

I have just given you a link to the article where it was reported in the post you responded to. Ben is unfortunately out, didn't want to be here.

I think it would be very bad if he went to NE. He likes a power running game which they already have and Maye is a lot like Goff

In three years I look forward to the threads that we need to hire a first-time head coach no retreads.

They didn't request an interview because Johnson told them through back-channels that he has no interest in coming here.

You don't have to be Einstein to figure that out.

According to an article in the Post today, the Jets did not request an interview as they do not believe Ben would be a good fit. Yea right, why would a really great offensive mind that puts the players in the right positions to succeed not be a good fit. He would be a great fit here. Depending on what article you read, either he does not want to interview here or the Jets are saving face by saying he is not the right fit. Disappointing to say the least.
