    Jameis Winston > either

Crab legs...5 int games with 600 yards ... It would at least be fun

It was. Very brief period though.

I think what we failed to appreciate is the Herm years. There were some good teams and I thought we could win it all in 2003 after that Colts playoff victory.

Then, Doug Brien was the only
Problem is, it's not like there are lots of guys out there like what you described. Yes, Parcells is the prototype for the culture change needed here but name me a list of guys on that level who are seeking employment. Belichick would be one but he is 100% not coming here unless there is an ownership change.

I think there's probably dozens of guys who fit the bill; the problem is finding the right underling when what you need is a guy with HC experience.

watching sam darnold throw for 5 touchdowns today and leading his team to the playoffs , while we drafted a bust and gave up the world for Brett Favre Jr to lead us to a miserable season is just infuriating.

He's re-signing with the Vikings. They're not letting a top 10 QB walk, and he's not signing with a bad team after he had to play for the Jets and Panthers.

90-95% of this site -- which admittedly does have very knowledgeable football fans -- wanted Darnold out and Zack Wilson in.

I read Joe Douglas' body language and instead of talking up Wilson's attributes, he kept focusing on Darnold's 4th year and 5th year options. That told me they weren't sold on Wilson and they should have kept Darnold and taken the 4 picks from SanFran like some of us wanted.:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Incredible game for Darnold. Joe Douglas is the worst GM we’ve had

    I’m happy for him.

Though, 2 of the TDs I watched live were egregiously broken coverage by ATL deep.

Sounds like he capitalized on mistakes made by the defense.

Darnold had 5 TD passes. The last time we had a QB do that was Brett Favre in 2008. Before that it was Vinny in the midnight miracle game, so only twice in 25 years

"But right in there, you’ll also see that, to a certain degree, the Jets had already zeroed in on who their target would be at 2—and that was a result of a lot of work done in the aftermath of the Jan. 14 hire of Saleh. And at that point, based on their work through the interview process, with Saleh and others, the Jets had come to the conclusion that Darnold would be a solid scheme fit for the Shanahan system that new OC Mike LaFleur was bringing.

“Everyone thought Sam would do well in this offensive scheme,”
    Douglas says.

That much was confirmed during the first phase of Saleh and Douglas’s first offseason together, a thorough roster review by the staffs of each guy. From there, the Jets went in on Saleh’s staff presenting profile tapes to teach the personnel staff what they were looking for at every position and, after that, Douglas accelerated the team’s quarterback evaluation process—asking that Saleh, LaFleur, pass-game specialist Greg Knapp and QBs coach Rob Calabrese watch the top five quarterbacks independently."

But I have never seen a DEFINITIVE reason for why they preferred Zack over Sam. The only item stated was the cost it would be to keep Darnold, as opposed to re-starting the clock with Wilson.

It never made sense to me, because with Sam you had a KNOWN quality....with Wilson, you had nothing but a Covid-disrupted 3rd year where he took a huge leap from unknown to Top 5 pick. It NEVER made sense.

If anything, Justin Fields should have been the pick based on what he did in the CFP.

"“Whether I look bad or not [for trading Darnold], I could give two s---s about that,” Douglas says, with a laugh."

    Brutal.

Another one from the same article: " The timing didn’t really work out for him here. We couldn’t turn this around fast enough for him. "

Yeah, his WR picks failed, he couldn't improve the Oline a little bit, sign some have decent TE, and how about not downgrading already weak WR1 Anderson with Perriman? Brutal.

Man I tried to forget that Permian signing!

He was drafted by Baltimore when JD was there…he sucked…but JD “knew” him, or was part of the decision to draft him I guess, and wanted to prove he was right to draft him. He sucked here like he sucked everywhere else.

Funny how some teams front offices have their pluses and minuses…for some reason Pitt always seems to find WR gems in the mid to late rounds…and for as good a front offices as Balt is, they almost always seem to whiff on first round receivers…

Goes to show no GM or front office is perfect…
